Pipedream, I'm just wondering if by leaving the bottom 3" open on the back side of the box, and with the box up against the wall, far enough away to allow air to flow in but won't let light in. In other words, for any light get into the scrog chamber, it would have to reflect off the wall, then off the carpet underneath the box then again up into the chamber.

If you believe it nessary, I have seen louvered vents at Home Depot that are 2-3" wide from 4"-12" long. Do you think this would be nessary? I need to know, so I can make the changes in how I cut my wood out.

Just thought folks would like to know. I had a small pile of old hard drives sitting around, I wanted to either erase or repair them, some guys over at Fry's electronics showed me this great lil device, it turns any ide or laptop drive into usb. The nice bit about it, it comes with a ac/dc adapter with a ide power doogle attached. This lil adapter is more then enough to run a bunch muffin fans, and a much neater job wiring too. For $20 can't go wrong, eh?

Jaxx - It's a tough call without actually seeing the set-up. The way you are describing it, it sounds like it might work. Keep in mind, that you can time your 12/12 cycle to coincide with the hours you are sleeping. This way, the room where the box is will naturally be dark and help to limit any light leaks. That was how my box was when I kept it in the house. If you have a decent digital camera, set the self timer, then you can place it in the box, put it on time release and see just how much light is really getting in. Just a thought.

All of my plants came down last week due to a, er, situation.

The good news is I managed to take a cut from each plant before getting rid of them. The cuts are rooting at a different house currently.

As soon as my place is back to normal, I plan to get my rooted SQ clones and stick them in some bubbling buckets that I built today. They're 2.5ga white plastic buckets. I'm going to use GH 3-part w/o the grow, lucas formula, w/ the hardwater micro. I have both PH and EC pens, nutes, pumps, basically, all the crap to set some buckets up. I'm putting the 86 on the soil. I've already made my share of messes in soil, for sure.

I also have three known female bag-seed clones. I have no idea what I'm going to do with those.

Hey Jaxxom,
I built a box that exact size with what sounds to be a very similar setup. I'm definitely no pro and I know I could have done better if I invested more time and money. I just planned my box as being a fun project slowly putting more an dmore into it. I never ended up getting any good genetics and started the perpetual harvest I was striving for, and the box is currently at a buddies house. I was hoping to get 4 plants going in the flowering room each with 1 sqft screen above it. A mother in the veg cab which was going to be 2'X1' X 3' High. And I would also have a couple clones going at a time. I never got any sort of carbon filter going and with the strains I had going and the circumstances under didnt really need it. Total costs for my cab including lights, fixtures, wood, paint etc. was roughly 220$ which paid off very quickly, even when not used to its full potential.
Heres what I made.

I wish I had mroe pictures of the cab itself. Ill see if I can get some if ur curious.

My airflow c was different then in the drawing. I thought it be better if the air came up from top of veg chamber, passed lights, through wall into flowering room near the bottom, through canopy of scrog, past light and out the ceiling. If necessary I was planning on adding a cooltube seperately vented by PC fans. It would have prbly been a good idea.

Things Ive learned:
I used very poor duct booster fan , which was fairly loud and did fairly poorly. It sounds like you have that under control though.

Lighting in a 2'X2' Scrog by 150 is pushing the lights ability slightly but can easily be added with a mixed spectrum of CFLs. I added in 2 14W... I blieve blue spectrum bulbs and I think it helped alot while keeping temps easy to manage.

Personally, I was compeltely satisfied with my remote ballast DIY and wouldnt find justice in spending more money on a digital ballast.

Airflow between veg cahmber and flowering chamber needs to be much omre then I was expecting. Never really looked into it either beforehand and dont understand why I didnt. I ended up having I think 3 sets of 3"(maybe 2" now that I look at it) ABS corner pipes, and a bunch of smaller ones which didnt do much. They worked fine as a light trap, take up much more space then a dark room louver, but at just over bucket height where the stem is I think is perfect. ideally there would be more, I think 4 at that size would be sufficient, more would definitely better.

The main problem I worried about was the light leaking between cabs through the doors but pot on 90° hinge locks which u had to push the door in to close so the weather stripping gets good contact in the flowering room, then the veg room didnt matter as much to me and I has that jsut lock over to the flowering door.

And also a 2'X2'X4' cab came out to be exterior appearancewise, much bigger then I was personally expecting, but still worked fine for me.

Like I said its my first cab and Im no pro but I try my best to help out where I learned most of what I know. If you have any specific questions i could help you with I read here alot, but dont really post often. And when I do Im always way to stoned and ramble on for hours.
Haha

Have a good one all, keep it up and thanks for the porn.

Pipedream,

I understand! It's a catch 22 situation. Can't give advice on something that's not built, without building it. I think, to be on the safe side I'm gonna go with the louvered vents anyways. It know it can't hurt. What I didn't mention is I was trying to think of a way to keep pests out. White Flies are nastly critters that can and will find any access possible!

Jasonk,

I like the design. Reminds me of NGB's oringal stealth box many years ago. Getting the electronic balast is only if I have the $$ when I get to that point in construction. Right now I have to concentrate on the box it's self and how I want it all to come together. I wish I could post a pic of my design, but I'm not all that good with those type of programs. So all my designs are in my head!

Would love to see some pictures of your final box. Never know when there's something you'd like to include in your own.

What's up guys and gals.
I got a little update on my current grow. The last crop got the chop about a week ago...the Big bud, White Widow and unknown Sativa (super silver haze/Zamal) are dried and jared for the upcoming "off" cycle. I do have a last grow in the works.
This is the 150 HPS with 2 Fimed/LST'd white widow females. Initially 4 WW as 2 grew balls. I saved the squater more indica male, let his gonads fully ripen and then collected his essence. I pollinated both ladies you see here with a makeup brush...hoping to get a fist full of seeds to play with in the future. Both of these ladies are in 2 gal pots.

This is the top section. Bubble cloner with 4 cuttings (in the back) from the mother on the right (SSH/Zamal). She bounced back real nice. I only hope she can bless me with a few clones to place out in a special spot I 've prepped. Nothing like a long 16-20 wk strain soaking up 4-5 months of Hawaiian sunshine. also in the cloner is 2 cutting from an extremely frosty "ice" mother as well as 2 cuttings from the ladies in the 430 HPS cab.

Just a quick peek in the 430

A group shot out in the open

My 150 sadhu harvest.

My 150 sadhu harvest.

JasonK: Nice set-up man.
Hawaiian: Plants are looking good man. You've always got somethin good growin' on. LOL
Here's some pix of my first 150 harvest. Sadhu from Mandala, LST'd. Though this grow showed me how much better it would be if I had scrog'd. But it's a huge improvement on my last grows which were LowRyders grown 24/7 under tube fluoros. They taught me the need for HID. LOL Learn something each time. Enjoy

I'll check in w/a final weigt in a few days.

Hawaiian - Nicely done ! Things are looking good in and out of those cab's

vintner - For a first attempt at a 150 harvest, you've got nothing to complain about. Those buds look nice and tight and of a good size! I'd be proud to say I had grown them myself. How are you planning to cure them?

I'm off to check on the young plant in my own box. I'll throw up a pic in a short while as an edit. Regards Everyone! PD

(edit:) Here it is. Had a bit of a mag defiency due to high PH, but I'm adjusting it on a regular basis now and it seems to be responding nicely. Its starting to develope some nice branching which is great as I intend to chop it up into cuts once its bigger. Of course I still have no idea as to sex. Fingers are crossed.

Pipedream: Thanks for the kind words. I've seen some of your grows, so they mean a lot coming from a grower of your caliber. Your plant is looking much better BTW.
Yes, I plan to cure them as best I can. My problem is that I'm going on a 6 day trip starting July 4th. Someone else sujested that I just leave the lids on my jars slightly cracked open while I'm away. Any other advice from the 150 gang?

sometimes I have found myself in a similar situation. What I usually do is to leave the jars open (no lid) and put them in a dresser drawer which I leave slightly open as well. Then when I get back I put the lids on. If things dry out too much (not likely to happen given the humidity right now) then just rehydrate the buds a little when u r ready to smoke them by putting a piece of lettuce or something similar in the jar with the lid on overnight.

hope that helps.

Use them both. The more light available the better for the plants. Even if it isn't in the ideal portion of the spectrum. I use my 150 from sprouting right thru harvest and supplement it with two CFL's. In fact, lately I've left them all on right thru the entire grow cycle.

agree with Pipe on this one. More lumens = happy plant(s). If you really want to speed up the veg go to 18 to 24 hrs "on". Best with a known pheno/clone = less likely to become a he/she.

Pipedream...it's a gi_ _.........lol. I'm pulling for you dude. Said in a Jamaican accent, "Sata Nash lady wit some naty fat dreads be commin your way mon".

Sugabear, you burn through that stash of yours yet? lol I'd bet a jar of your best againts one of mine that your getting the itch to fire up that 150 of yours again. After seeing Lemons digi I had to get one. Come on Suga...we need to see that cab full of sticky icky. Come on mang!

As for my problem...pulled out the shelf, hung the fan by bungies in the left corner (no vibration and almost completely quiet now) and gained another 8-10" in height. I'm at 48" from the bottom of the 5gal pots to the top cola today. It would appear the stretch is finally over though...heeewww! Veg was a bit too long this run but then again, maybe just right. Will know in the next few days.

Question, anyone use pure blend pro bloom "soil formula"? This is my first run with this and I was wondering if going with the recommended dose of 30ml per gallon is a bit too hot. Don't want to burn these ladies.
