hey there sleepy,

How do you like that Just Right Xtra? I just put some clones in that stuff and a few will become mothers. It seemed to be like good stuff.

gerome!!>> i sure like this medium...i don't like the place got it though...it came with a bunch of fungus gnats waiting to enjoy my grow...i put in some of the no-pest strips when i noticed the stowaways, and that took care of them! the medium is very nice.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

so i took some pix last night and thought i should do a proper update.

things are moving along...the plant that suffered the heat stress seems to be packing on more weight than the other three...strange...i have been feeding about every third watering and giving plain water in between...everything pH'd to 6.5.

click a pic for a nicer view.

a view from the back side...

peace.

looking really nice sleepy! do you feel the resin production is on par for what you're used to? they look to be gaining some trichs in the pics. I've never flowered under a 400w hps, so I've never really been able to tell if they produce less resinous nugs than a 1kw. hopefully this LED will get them nice and frosty.

Hey Sleepy, just stumbled accross this forum and when I saw you were testing one of these I had to tag and track it. I've been seeing thse units popping up on ebay for a while now, and there are some bigger units starting to appear too now. Do you think a 126 to 400w comparrison is accurate or do you think really one of the larger 3**watt units would be a fairer comparrison. For me its all about the heat issues from hps units, esp in the summer, and the reduced evapouration in the winter (the windows get a lot of condensation on them, which i always feel is a bit of a giveaway). I'd love to switch over, but I'm yet to be convinced and have been wondering if its really that the smaller units are being compared to much higher power hps units rather than similar wattages.

Hmm

Pics on 3/06 were at day 52-53? Unless those buds are much bigger than they appear, I'd say they have no chance of matching a 400w. And they sure won't fill out and match the pics of the colas you posted at the beginning of this thread. Temperature problems of not.

Of course they are from seed, and to do an accurate comparison all would have to be clones IMO.

Not trolling, but so far I'm not impressed. Final weight will tell all of course. Not sure if its the strain but...

Plants do look quite healthy I'll say that. I think the LED's are more suited for veg. Just doesn't look like they can pack the weight on like a good ole HID.

Overall nice run Sleepy. And nice recovery from the temp problems. Any way you could give a few measurements please? I'd like to see a height comparison from a few weeks back.

:good: :smoke:

Looking Good there Sleepy. I got my eyes On one of those panels. I am trying to figure out where to add it. Looks like it would be a great Asset.

So how are we looking compared to the HPS?? I still think the LED dont have the penetration like the HPS. I rather keep them for Vegging and Flower with the HPS. Dense Danker Bud to the fullest.

I think I will keep watching. And you say you have 4-5 plans under 1 light correct?

According to Verdant Green and Genetics, plants grown under our LED's have nugs that are very dense. In Genetics' test, the LED buds were more dense than those grown under HPS... So if you want the hardest flowers, you'd go with LED, not HPS...

maybe denser, but im also doubtful about the yield... unless you run 400w worth of leds, which may be an option. I have high hopes for the LED fixtures, but I have yet to see yield and fast turnaround like HID gives. Measurements would make it easier to compare tho.

But damn, they do look healthy...

Due to growers ignorance (including myself, but studying my ass off), lights often get blamed for issues elsewhere.

Airy Nugz can be caused by a imbalance between N-P-K, RH, or lack of micronutrients, I would also image that bulbs that are past their prime could cause this. I mean how do you know whether your HID/HPS/CFL/FL bulb is meeting spec?

BLEDs (before LEDs), I changed my 400HID/HPS bulbs every other grow. I imagine LEDs are the only grow bulbs capable of lasting many years/grows while meeting most of its' origin wattage and lumen output.

My last grow was my first using LEDs. I also took the leap from soil and dove into the oft confused world of hydroponics. It would take a while to tell you everything that I did wrong on my journey to where I am now, but, I still wound up with one plant the had a 2 foot tightly packed cola that was 4" diameter, though the colas themselves were airy-ish.
I wound up with 1.2 oz dry, but I did supplement with one 150 cfl half way through bloom.

My current grow started where I wound up and has advanced from there. I am about 3 weeks till harvest. My only LED complaint, is I can't afford the outlay for 2 @ 200 watt LEDS, IMHO the minium you should have to properly cover a 2 X 4 grow area.

One thing... blue LEDs last 1/3 the years that red do. ALL BLUE LEDS! hehe, even blue lasers - the higher frequency to make blue light just wears the components out faster - even blu ray drives ^.^ This is why TV manufacturers stopped making 3color backlights and OLED panels. Does the company they come with warranty the LEDs for any specific period? I bet the RED ones last many many years but the blue ones I give 2-3 yrs max. just my .02

I replace my bulb every 3-4 cycles max, you can tell it will appear dimmer compared to a new one - you can use a footcandle meter to measure the output of your hood with a new lamp, then test it at the beginning of each new run - when you get like 15% less fc output you may want a new lamp for optimum performance. Or you can just get a new one every 3-4 rounds like me cuz im too cheap to buy the meter and my way seems to work.

Very interesting

My next grow journal will feature Lowryder/Bubblegum X under my UFO 90 vs 900 watts of CFLs (at 1/6th the cost).

Low height/fast grow plants should be perfect strain types. Look for strains with minimak canopy, that grow less than one 2 foot tall cola per plant, with or without a short hoop .
skirt at the first node.

These strains are perfect for SOG, BUT if doing aeroponics, they will still need ample space all the way around the roots, so don't cram too many into one table
