12/12 From Seed: A Different Way To Grow

top 44 is a real popular strain for commercial growers , good yields , nice potency and dense buds in little time . Its also a short plant .

I'm very happy with my 12/12 from the start strain , because the males all show sex fast at almost the same day and females will follow soon . It took me 3 years .
The strain Double fun was used and also an unkown strain ;

Double fun ;

Unkown strain :( but not the fenotype i used for breeding )

I have a couple specific questions about my plants. I started them in plastic cups, they are coming up on 3 weeks old. Do you usually wait to re-pot them until they show sex? I don't want to waste time and materials on males. Also, any idea of what I should use for a final container size? I like being able to turn them and swap their positions under the light, so I want to stay with individual pots. I just scored several hundred pots from an abandoned christmas tree farm, all diff sizes from 1/2 gal up to 6 gallon. They left them laying along the road after planting and just walked away.

The 9 plants I have are going gangbusters, I suspect that the ones leading the pack will be males, but still waiting for any sign of sex/preflowers. I got a quart jar of seed from a friend last night, will use this method to "fill in" the spaces in the flower room between my cloned plants. Just a way to most efficiently use the light I'm paying for anyway. More pictures Tuesday. Thanks.

I was wondering having never tried this method, on average how tall do most plants, when well maintained, tend to grow. I will be starting my second grow soon and am thinking of trying 12/12 from seed. I will post some pictures soon of my latest efforts

You wait untill the males show sex ,and repot the ones not showing sex yet or showing to be females.

that depends on how big and healthy they are when you repot them . when they are relatively small about 1,5 gallon pots would be fine but then you need more females to grow efficiënt. whats the size of your growcab surface ? and how many seeds do you start ?

Ok, sorry about the lack of info with my question. Actually, I checked the plants before lights out this morning, one of the seedlings is showing definite female preflowers! There is one other plant that may be a male, not sure yet. Will for sure get pictures tonight. I have 9 plants started with this method, but have other large plants in the flower room as well.

I had planned on keeping them in the cups until I know what sex they are, I was just hoping they wouldn't get rootbound and stunted before then. I will be putting the confirmed females first into maybe 1.5 gallon pots- they're the "600" size, then into larger, maybe 2.5-3 gallon. I have a space 4'x4' square with a 1K HPS. I figure I can fit 16 5-gallon or maybe 25 smaller containers in there, but I will have a mix of different plants at different stages of flower, so I will arrange according to plant height and light needs.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those hairs this morning! It is the absolute tallest plant too, so I pretty much assumed that it would be male. That's why I never cut a plant till I'm absolutely certain of sex. Always something new to see. These plants are definitely not stretching like I thought they would, very compact and lush. They aren't getting much in the way of food, pretty much just kelp extract and superthrive. They get 100 ml of water each maybe every 2-3 days. They should have thoroughly developed root systems by the time I transplant them.

bak from the dam and hav had a lot of work to do and sleep to catch up on, looks like the thread is get new members all the time, nice one.

i'm happy to c how mine hav com on while i've been away, i've got 3 lots in now all about 3 weeks apart, i'll take som pics soon and do an update.

i'm going to flower everything in my veg room and clear it out, i need to get rid of the borg, wen i got bak they're crawling over everything and my girls look well attacked by them.

looks like everybodies grows are going well which is nice to c

So what can we say? Which strains work with this method? I am new to this and i really want to buy some 100% fem seeds. I will try and grow this in natural sunlight, and i will cover the plant and or move them to shade every 12 hours. Its just that the weather here in IL is shakey. I would use indoor lights its just that our electric bills have raised 45% in Illinois :(. What kinda lights give u the same engery but half the cost?

ok ok , I've been checking out this thread for a while now and well I just can't stand here and watch any longer......I have to try this.

This is a strain I bred out about 4 years ago and been holding on to the beans....till now. It's called stinky pinky because of all the beautiful pink pistals all through out the cycle, and well here goes.....

3 s.p.'s at 10 days (I can't beleive how fast there growing like this)

I started 30ish of these beans all at one time and the rest ...well there still lil , really lil.

just amazing how fast?

So is it about 20-25 days they show sex?

I also wonder if you where to put the plant back into 18/6 right when sex shows if that would stress the plant? has anyone tried this?

also has any one tried to pinch off right before she starts to pre-flower?

good luck to all and i'll keep posting as the days go by.

peace :joint:

Can you explain what you mean with 'pinch off right'

I've tried going to 18/6 after the first signs of flowering appear , it stressed them a lot . But why would you want to go to 18/6 ? I guess in case you want big plants .

The time it takes to show sex depends on the strain but also a lot on how fast they develop . I had a male plant showing sex at day 14 !! he was in a very larg econtainer recieving lots of light ( 600 watt HPS and 400 watt HPI-t)

sorry I was meaning just "pinch off" or " topping" pulling the top node off of the plant.
I'll try this with one of my 3 I have to show what happens.

yes , 18/6 to grow them much bigger, I just love how fast they took off, but I'm just not sure how much of a yeild i'll get with this strain. What do ya think? maybe 1/2 oz per plant at least is what i'm hoping for, any more and I wont need to worry about trying to make them bigger.

here is the same strain grown under a 175mh.
veg for 6 weeks from when seed poped open.

this is not 12/12 from seed but the same strain to compair with.

7weeks of flower

now lets see what the 12/12 from seed will do. I'll keep everyone up to date on this.

peace

Well, I transplanted the 4 female plants that I got (out of 9) into a 5-gallon bucket which was vacated by a plant that turned out to be a male. All 4 have buds forming, they are maybe 6-7" tall. Not sure how much more they'll grow, hope it's quite a lot more, otherwise the yield will not be very good. Now that I know how well this works, though, I'll be starting some more stable and suitable strains as soon as these are done. Still have jars of bagseeds that were given to me, will "fill in" my flower room as I can. More pictures tonight. The roots of these plants in the cups were crazy, not rootbound, but definitely using all available space with big, white hairy roots.

Atmosphere!!

Nice thread and great grows you have!!

I have 14 seeds from a bag of good smoke i just got...as well as some other unknown bagseed. Very nice looking fat mostly striped seeds. My current grow is at day 15 of flower. I'm thinking of growing these seeds out 12/12 after this grow. I have a 400W HPS. Do you think I could do 24 plants ? Rows of 6x4. 1 gallon(3.8L) plastic coffee cans are what I would use as final pot. Is 14 grams reasonable to expect from a healthy plant in a 1 gallon container grown 12/12

This Ice plant is turning into a monster. It went from 17 inches (43 cm) when I went 12/12 on April 15th to 44inches (111cm) today May 1st :joint:

Day 14 of flower

My bigger AI is growing about same rate

I case you want a See Of Green , the best thing to do is to start with a good F1 hybride. These give you the most powerfull and equal plants .

Hey all, great thread, I love growing 12/12 from seed

Here is a pic of my Cinnamon SCroG. It is one on the right. It is actually 3 plants under that screen, in a 70L bubbler. On in the front, 2 at the back.

Those 3 plants under the screen were sprouted in soil then put into the bubbler at about 4/5 days from sprouting.

I did a check the other day and it looks like there ar gonna be 40-50 budsites all in all.

Also you can see in the pic that the Cinnamon in front is about a week ahead of the other 2. This is good cause it means that if I harvest all at the same time I'll get some well-done bud, and also some medium bud :woohoo:

fruitbowl and haze skunk in flower

fruitbowl and haze skunk in flower

Here are 2 of the 4 girls I have growing currently:

Haze Skunk, day 15 of flower, 21" tall, CFL lighting

Fruitbowl, day 19 of flower, 14" tall, CFL lighting

The other 2 girls have issues....they were extras that I was expecting to plant outdoors somewhere, but then the northern lights girl that I had went hermie on me in a big way, so I decided to keep these indoors. I used some old Foxfarm Ocean Forest soil that I had grown in previously, and that is where the issues originated. The soil was very depleted of nutrients, and the fruitbowl showed the deficiency badly. I think I have both of them on the mend, but they don't look good, so I don't want to put them on display in this thread and give the 12/12 thing a bad name.

That was the first time I've ever re-used soil....live and learn, eh?
