[Pic Intensive] PC Grow from Seed - Beginner

Time for the weekly update:

definite buddage starting to happen at the cola

budsites and new growth shoots beginning to grow on the stem

Here's a little spotting I've noticed. It's only on these two leaves, and these are the ones that touch the door. I don't know if it's a nutrient problem or the door, but I'm guessing nute. I've been feeding weekly. I don't know my pH, but I've been using bottled water.
I'm not gonna worry about it, but if it gets worse, I'll have to post in the infirmary.

looking good RudieJ.The thing with the leave is not a nutrient problem just some battle scars but still keep an eye on it

i see that humidifier unit thing still in the case, some might say other wise but I've always read when your flowering to go as dry as possable to increase THC levels on the buds. Can anyone confirm that?

Too dry will stress out your plants - around 40% RH is good. People prefer a lower RH in flower because it reduces the chance of mould and some think increases resin production.

with such a small plant i would prob let everything bud, but normally with SCROG you wanna clip anything below the can-a-pee :p

My RH with the humidifier stays around 35% (although my hydrometer says it gets up to 44% sometimes). Without it, it's around 30%, so it doesn't really do much. I'm going to take it out after all the water is evaporated in it because it just blows white flecks through the case.

My plan is to let the shoots grow up to the screen then start clipping lower fan leaves once there is a lot more vegetation to absorb light. So far, the only bud that has reached the screen is the cola. Tell me if that's wrong, though... can I expect the new growth from the stem to reach the screen and bud?

EDIT:
Oh also... I smoked for the first time in about 5 years the other week. It was kush like this plant is and one hit did me in. Back in the day, I stopped smoking because of anxiety (kinda why I related to Mr. Micro's Nanomachine build so much). Still got anxious this time, but it lasted a minute and I was fine. I smoked sour diesel the next weekend (again, one hit). It was interesting to see how different the highs were. Still got anxious, but I dealt with it and went to a party and had a great time.

That nervous high also goes away with time as you get more and more thc in your system. When I first started smoking, all weed made me paranoid and anxious.

nice ,but those secondary buds mighht not hit the screen i think it might be just like a bud on a stick maybe

Hey, is there something wrong with picture uploads? I've been trying to update for a week but I keep getting "Uploading temporarily disabled."

Cool, with picture uploading fixed I thought I'd give you the photos I had for Sunday:

and a picture I took tonight:

That's nutty! Look how much buddage has grown in a couple days! Especially compare the buds in the top picture to the bottom, you can really see how the exact same buds swelled up.

Right now, my tactic is a lot of creative tucking to keep leaves out of the buds' way. I kinda sorta broke the stem a week and a half ago just below the cola, so I am not going to tuck that under anymore (since the stem is weak now) but it should be fine. I just think of it as involuntary super-cropping.

Very nice grow. I had a grow very similar to this until a light fell on my plant and snapped the stem. I was about to switch to 12/12 too :(.

Only question I have for you is how the smell is. I haven't been able to get a straight answer really but since your plant size is what I had in mind I think I can get a good sense (I won't be growing a kush plant).

Good luck

That's a good question. That was my main concern with my first grow as well. I have no odor control device right now and the smell just barely became noticeable in the past couple days... but it's so light that you have to be actively sniffing for it right next to the case (and even then it only smells like typical plant material). This is the beginning of week 6 of flowering.

RudieJ i have a question? I was going to send u a pm but my post count is still to low. My question is whats the purpose of using the screen? And how soon can u use it? Do u have to adjust the height of the screen as the plant grows taller?

Lookin great RudieJ! :D

I just got done reading through this whole thread and it looks like you're doing an excellent job! I checked out the guy on eBay who's selling these PC case grow boxes like the one you're using and it's a really nice change of pace to see someone making and selling a good quality and usable PC case growbox at a decent price. Those "PC Planter" and other such systems are such rip offs, so it's nice to finally see a decent product on the market at a reasonable price for people who don't want to go through the time and trouble of building their own. The only thing I think it probably needs is a carbon filter and it would be set :smoke:

But anyhoo, your grow is looking really nice! Great healthy and happy looking plant, good solid clean setup, and everything looks just really nice all around.
And hey, don't worry too much about about pruning some leaves here and there to get them out of the way. If you were LST'ing I'd say don't prune, but with a micro sized ScrOG system anything that's more than 3" below the ScrOG screen is just wasting the plant's energy since it will never get enough light to grow to any decent size, so feel free to trim off anything more than 3" below the screen I think. I'm also of the mind set that while it's usually better to just tuck leaves out of the way and let them wither and fall off naturally there are some situations (namely ScrOG'ing) in which it's really best to just snip off anything that's blocking light to the bud sites, since if you tucked it underneath the screen it would no longer get any light and just waste the plant's energy that it could be using to make your buds fatter.

Ultimately it's your call, and your plant looks great as is, but if you do decide to prune don't worry about it too much. They are pretty durable plants after all! I once had a True Blueberry that I accidentally LST'ed way too much and snapped it 3/4 of the way through at the base of the stem when it was 5 weeks into flowering. At that point I just held it in position with some twist ties, wrapped the base of the stem in surgical gauze dipped in a light nutrient solution, and hoped for the best. One week later and it was all healed up and right as rain... so yeah, tough little things they are :smoke:

Thanks so much for stopping by, Mr. Micro! I wouldn't have built my first case (or indeed started growing) if I hadn't seen your Nanomachine that made me realize stealth and a personal grow were easier to acheive than I thought.

I was just about to ask about pruning. The canopy is pretty thick so the sites close to the base of the stem are always in shade. Also, the cola has some leaves that are shielding the two big buds closest to it. I've just been tucking them under, but they always pop back and it's a pain. I think I am going to do some light trimming tomorrow.

By the way, I checked my PH today. 6.7 and I am going to give it another good feeding this weekend.

Oh yeah, no problem dude. When I first started looking at grows on here all the crazy S&M methods of tying plants up or growing them under screens was pretty confusing. There are a lot of methods growers use to increase their yield (especially when you are doing a limited space grow). This method is called SCRoG (screen of green). The idea is to let all the budsites grow up into the screen then they all have an equal footing at growing thicky-thick like the cola, which would otherwise be the only budsite to get a lot of direct light. Since I couldn't leave my plant in the vegetative stage very long, I also used another method called LST (low stress training). This is where you tie the stem down to allow it to grow in a bent shape (kinda like 6th grade science glass). I used it to bend my stem and get the budsites along the stem to grow up into the screen.

I've been looking for a couple great threads I found that tell you all about growing methods like this, but I'm having trouble finding them... I'll keep searching.
In the meantime, try searching for LST or SCROG or even just looking at the grows. A lot of growers use techniques like this, especially for microgrows.
