thats cute just like rosintechs, and has that lil assed squish area. useless. i already got that.
the one i have been seeing is like the hardpressco, i might get that one i dont know. just too many people squishing that now its showing up in dispensaries and whats at dispensaries sits, because every kid alreays knows about this and is squishing thier own buds

kinda a dead end investment already, internet and youtube killed it fast

Well gang, I ran another test tonight.

I'll probably have to take a few pics to thoroughly explain this but in short terms....

My platens are set up so that they open and close in a clamshell style, rather than the platens being exactly parallel and pressing together in a single plane. This always made common sense to me since my objective is to squeeze the rosin to one edge. That's why I originally tried to use a pinch roller instead of a press.

So, as it was set up prior to this test, the platens are 6" x 6" square. The rod from the bottle jack would press on the platens about an inch or more behind dead center. Still, in line from left to right, but offset to the rear by the inch or so.

This allowed the packet to be placed about 1 inch (or slightly less) in FRONT of dead center. This created a squeeze effect that pushed all the rosin to the front of the packet.

Tonight, I set everything up to go up and down straight parallel and to press the platens straight dead center. I still placed the packet slightly in front of dead center but I didn't have as much room in front of the jack rod so the material was closer to the center than my regular setup.

Not sure if that creates a clear picture or not. If it becomes an issue, I'll take some pics.

Anyway, the results were disastrous. First of all, the yield was noticeably less than my other presses of this same strain and quantity.

The rosin pressed out in all directions and was much harder to gather.

The resulting chips were way way flatter than my normal after chips. Almost paper thin.

I am definitely going to set mine back up so the main post of force is BEHIND the center of my platens and that the package is IN FRONT of the center of the platens.

Just tossing this out. Many setups won't be able to change the center of force so it won't matter to you. I'm definitely going to run more tests. I still like the idea of the pinch roller to literally SQUEEZE the rosin out, rather than pressing it. Picture an old ringer washing machine ringing the water out of wet clothes.

I am going to reset my press. If anyone wants pics of this for a better explanation, let me know and I'll do what I can.

I'd certainly love to see some pics when you have time. I plan on starting my build fairly soon. I was going to go with the harbor freight bottle press style, but the squeezing you describe makes a lot of sense.

Thanks

I tried heating a SS pasta roller in the oven once (wifey caught me and put an end to that testing)...couldn't get it to work right but there was some potential especially if you were to use mesh tubes of trim packed JUST right so they don't blow out....

as for moving material off center, if you want to play around with this I recommend a wine corker and some home made platens...gives you a feel for directional squeezing....

Clandestine manufacturing is at it again. Here is my rosin press using an old waffle iron that has a 450 watt heater on each plate, with a thermostat, some aluminum plates 6x8 on a standard harbor freight A frame press. I have heated the plates and have very even and controllable heat. I will post some pics as soon as i get time to press some rosin...

that is awesome ester!

are you just pressing straight on that backing? and then the wiring in the second photo sits between the two bricks on the a-frame?

Yes the wiring just sits between the plates, i am having to grind off about a 1/8 inch piece of one of the press plates to make it all fit, cost less than 100 bucks to make...

Afternoon everyone! Well, the time has come to source some heated plates. I purchased a 6ton press from HD the other day and now im looking to get some quality heating plates. I know theres a few guys on here and IG who have manufactured some and i was hoping you could point me in their direction.

thanks everyone!

i used the foil tape as shims, it stunk the first few presses, but fuck it. i also sawed the plastic pieces to create housings for the control crap, i cut and extended the wires and clamped my 3' clamp between some benches for a permanent station in my shop

Scratching my head, why didn't I think of that?! Thank you! I will try that out tomorrow. I went and bought a 1 ton press, pics to come soon. I am also going to buy a TIG welder, as I've been watching some youtube videos. I'm already pretty handy with wood and cutting metal, always wanted to learn to weld, so I've been watching hours of youtube classes. Seems fairly straightforward, just takes a lot of practice. As I said, pics to come soon and you guys can tell me what you think. Thanks for the advice!

Hey rosin pros. My partner just told me he wants to make rosin on a commercial scale.

Was hoping you pros might be able to share some info with me on how to setup a large system, including parts needed ect. Here or a pm works for me. I did read much of this thread but failed to find a post that showed on detail how to accomplish such a task step by step, with parts used listed ect..if I missed a certain post and you can link me that would be appreciated too.

Thanks all

Are these something existing just being re-purposed or an original design? Here is some info on the parent company: http://www.yelp.com/biz/tin-inc-keizer

I know you're not promoting them, but I'd recommend everyone stay away, at least until there's actual videos of it in use, right now all the existing videos are of the unit.

2 Videos:
I was watching the videos and all it seemed to be doing was trying to get people to jump on board the hype train. They didn't show any actual results from use. Just closing the unit on a nug and a bunch of skeptical pictures of the after product. Not to mention someones bound to hurt themselves applying their full body weight on their hand.
also "SUPER OFFICIAL"

no, no i definitely am not repping this company, just merely posting all presses out there. even posted the tire press ones. i said fuck it to this industry, i have pressed out over a pound of rosin and it just sits with me smoking it all. there is no money to be had chasing this retarded dream. youtube and IG have the kids all just squishing their own buds, so i decided to save my money, buy a few more lights and keep focus on growing. top of the food chain, if people want something to squish HMU otherwise i aint chasing these money wasting dreams.

commercial units needed for the rosin industry less than 100,000. consumer units needed maybe 5,000,000. R&D for units along with UL and other lic. for US sales legitimately, without too much liability surpasses the profit margin by 3x.

I think its more than just that though. I have always produced my own extract, but now that i do heat pressing, instead of 1-3 times a week making extract, i do it 5-10 times a day. Fresh press is where its at. I never make more than needed for around the next 4 hours at most. Once you tried some rosin a few times, you realize you dont want grams and grams of it, as it degrades so fast.

im having good luck with stability here, i think the oldest rosin i have is going on 2 mo nths old and is still pull and snap. i dont know about potency loss though, if that is what was being referred to. But hell yes fresh is best, ill even press live plant material, just have to go higher heat(330) and do the squish a lil slower, and do realize you will get a sappy or buttery return due to water content, but the terps are worth the mess and sizzle :tiphat::dance013::biggrin:
