Derailed Blues: a Comparison, In North America

I thought it was time to start a Derailed Blues thread

Several North American growers have coincindently, started to grow out a strain that has been dubbed Derailed Blues.

We hope to share the trials and tribulations of comparing grows of the same strain in different locals.

Latitude and altitude will play and important role in this outdoor grow.

To get things going I'll post my Derailed Blues (DB, from now on...) seeds and seedlings from day one.

This seedling is exactly one week, from the seed being placed between two wet paper towels to start germination.

The second pic is an overview...6/6....I'm very happy with the germ ratio.

Enjoy

Derailed Blues, a Trainwreck x Blue Mystic cross was a center piece of last season's garden. The plant I raised was just nicely flowering when it was seized by LEO, ending my season with a crash.

This season, I happened to find some DB f2 in the mail. An anonymous benefactor has blessed me with another chance to get it done.

Captain Skunk grabs the early lead with his seedling eye candy with that nicely composed shot.

80% germination has resulted in 4 seedlings, hope to see both a TW and BM phenotype among the females.

BTW, the larger seedling is a White Widow. It is a couple weeks ahead of the Derailed Blues.

I have to ask, if you experienced anything unusual while you were germing your seeds between wet towels?

Unpon finding my seeds all popped on day four, I found two seeds that appeared to bleed a red or purple colored liquid.

I didn't think much of the spots at first, chalking them up to patterns on the paper towels.

Then I noticed my towels didn't have any patterns on them.

I have absolutley no explaination. my seedling stems are almost the same color, which isn't unusual to me.

Theories?

Hey buddy...I've never seen that before..perhaps when I brought her in I might have brushed against something...there were thimbleberries in the area...was there anything in the area you were germing that might of got on the towels...interesting...did you see the pic in my thread of the AK-47?...stay safe...

I use the towel to wet them, but they went into soil after 48 hours. Nothing unusual, but I wouldn't have seen it underground.

'dude, nice little forest of DB's you got there.

There was nothing here that may have caused the color. The towel remaing pure white until the last two seeds fully opened and then it looked like a drop of ink had been dripped on only two seeds.

Ii didn't taste it to see if it had a berry flavor, maybe an ink pen was used to slip it into it's shipping container? but the spots appeared after the seeds cracked...or so it may seem...

The AK looks good Dude, did you crack more than one?

I know it's only been a few days between updates but, I am very impressed by the aggressive growth displayed by the DB in the past four days. They all look great and only one is stretching and has toppled over.

The first true node has appeared and shows signs of new growth everytime I look at it.

Not bad considering it has only been 11 days since the seeds cracked.

Glad to see you stop by LS.

I agree hilljack, I'm going to let a couple of mine veg for about 4 weeks and then switch them over to 12/12 for a spring flowering project.

Once I harvest the spring buds the plants will be re-vegged and allowed to grow out over summer.

Can someone tell me what the Train Wreck phenos are?

I can already tell I have two differnt types of plants developing from my seeds.

enjoy

Hey there buddy...the TW is sativa..I told you that you would be able to see the two pheno's early..the BlueMystic is indica..I'll be focusing on the indica strain but will grow a sativa in a container to bring in if the weather calls for it... Cured Smurfett has a great blueberry muffin smell to it and is a mumbler(I smoke it, I mumble)..now the seed project plants were quite sativa in sturcture and after I clean a bud out for the seeds, I smoke what left and it puts me on my ass...don't know why....anyways so far the germ rate is good...plants look healthy and life is fine...stay safe..

Thanks ND, Early indications lead me to believe, I may have 2 out of 6 TW dominent plants. I'm happy to have both, maybe I'll spring flower one of each for comparison.

The old ball and chain will be happy to hear I will be mumbling more than usual!

enjoy!

Brain Wreck whet my taste for the strain, my Derailed Blues looked and smelled identical. What I remember was the high grade smoke, that was the best I have ever produced.

My Derailed Blues seedling look great, nice and healthy. I am getting concerned with my White Widow, it has not grown since the transplant last week. I have had that before, sometimes they just fail to thrive.

...How is the Brain Wreck related to TW?
Brain Wreck was produced from a Train Wreck cross. I am sure the White Widow and Crystal Locomotive contributed to the quality, but it was clearly dominated by the Train Wreck.

My Brain Wreck seed making was a bust, they were seized when the second generation males were just starting to show. There were 6 seedling plants included in the count. I am sure that produced some laughs when they were considering proceeding with charges.

With Brain Wreck verging on extinction, my best odds of reacquiring the base strain is Derailed Blues. I understand Train Wreck only exists as cutting.

If my White Widow survives, their is a shot at recreating the first step that leads to Brain Wreck.

Derailed Blues was created from a Train Wreck x Blue Mystic.

Can you imagine. A whole generation of newbies with no place to fine the encouragement to carry on the quest.

They are still out there, but this time google lets them down. How many will be discouraged from joining into outlaw lifestyle is beyond estimation.... billions and billions...
