I used to love de Dampkring, it was always one of my first stops in A-dam. Lately though, I've been a bit frustrated by the sometimes very young vendors who doesn't really know much about anything.
This guy in there told me Black Domina was an up-high smoke, and when I gently tried to explain to him that he was about as wrong as he could be, I realized he didn't have a clear concept of what a Sativa or an Indica was.
So de Dampkring, please send your weekend staff to Cannabis college, just to learn the basics.
Are they still screening the Ocean's 12 clips in repeat mode on their widescreen? I got a bit too much of that too. It's cool that some scenes from the film was shot in there, but you don't have to rub it in.

At the Grey Area, they know what they're talking about, and it's right across the river to the Seedboutique.
Tweede Kamer is my personal cosy corner, a great place to light up some Kali Mist.

Totally agree, At Dampkring I got into a debate with the crazy bald head bud tender about how power plant should be a sativa, not indica. They try to act like they know it all at dampkring, but they do stock a great hash selection as well as a few prime buds.

Grey Area was probably the smallest shop I visited, with only a small handful of tables with rickety metal chairs - a shelf to the side with numerous pieces of unclean glass toking tools to try. Despite the dirty glass and small surroundings, Grey Area had some of the best gear. Kif by the gram anyone? Yah, we jumped on that as well as 3 or 4 other bud strains they had - all was quality.

Amnesia gets high praises too - last time I was there they had pink kush, which tasted heavenly through a volcano.

I know Barney's is insanely popular too, although they are WAY overpriced, don't stock all quality gear and have a serious issue with their dining staff across from the coffee shop. Who wants to pay $60+ USD for a single gram of hash? There were way too many strains to try to throw money away like that. The cheaper hashes like caramella and nepali temple ball were alright though. One of the girls on the wait staff at their restaurant came yelling at me to take my foot from resting on the under sidings of the chair in front of me - 5 minutes later she picks her nose, wipes the booger across her cheek and slurps it up with her tongue! Oh, so a member of the wait staff can covertly eat her boogers behind the bar, but I can't rest my feet on a thin wooden board under a chair across from me? Something is screwy about the etiquette here.

Abraxas has the hash space cakes and a few delightful strains like hawaiian haze and the tasty juicy fruit - had a silly bud tender at their main cafe though, a young man with glasses spinning wildly, shoving random boxes of bud in people's faces and bragging on how he knows it all - Really people? How can such little knowledge make someone feel they are so extravagant?

Rokerij had some good gear and was nice to chill and talk in but to me it seemed a bit dark inside - it was hard to find a terrific strain here. Wound up getting some bio-biz cannasutra which was definitely good.

there's a cafe named The Dolphins which is only good for a 5 minute pit stop or a smoke session in their upstairs area. The staff will make you feel unwelcome.

Greenhouse is what it is - The feel of the place was one of my favorites, with milkshakes going around and fish swimming in a floor set aquarium beneath your feet, but none of the bud was of quality. The strawberry haze had absolutely no fruit scent or taste to it, I tried 2 of 3 Arjan's hazes, 1 which was worth the smoke and 1 which could be associated with beasters. I think I also tried to pick up some powerplant or similar citrus sativa from there which wasn't of good quality either. They have clean bongs you can use and will add ice upon request, but I would come to this shop with bud from another place.

Route 66 is worth a quick stop to enjoy the vibe of the place.

Coffeeshops that looked or felt like a waste of time are below.
-Rasta cafe almost nearest the station
-Picasso
-Any Bulldog cafe
-Any Grasshopper cafe

As far as a place to stay, be smart! Book a bed and breakfast instead of a hostel - Less of a charge and a better living area without half the hassle. We stayed in a Stayokay hostel in Vondelpark only to have a freelance (by freelance I mean they are hired independently and not at all associated with the hostel itself) security officer barge into our room while we were sleeping and accuse us of smoking 2 massive joints that were honestly joints we couldn't finish in the coffee shops a few hours before. So I have this Middle Eastern security guard named Omar breaking in on my girl and I MID SLEEP - accusing us of breaking hostel rules and confiscating our joints and space cakes. Needless to say, I WAS LIVID. I spent most of the rest of the night up yelling at the two-man arabic security team. In the morning, I was given a sincere apology by a stayokay manager, all my smoking items were returned and all they really did for my trouble and night of no sleep was give me a free t-shirt. I finished the joint that was the size of a sharpie pen in the park outside the hostel, needing a serious moment to chill out after all that stress.
Moral of the story, avoid stayokay hostels. When the incident happened, there was absolutely no one on staff at the hostel, so they relieve all managers and employees for the night, while they let an independent security team take over. I demanded numerous times for a manager's phone number to which the security guys responded nervously and told me to wait until morning. I was down there yelling and arguing with poor Omar until he was saying, "What I can do sir? You must talk to me respectfully," Yah, like the respect he gave us by entering without knocking and accusing us for smoking in a room with absolutely no smoke in it.
