You're walking your dog and notice the usual scenic mountain view of Rt.40 off in the distance is packed with cars and trucks headed east but normal traffic headed west.
You ask your neighbor "what's going on" expecting to hear about a big wreck, only to find out it's folks headed to The Billy Graham Training Center (next exit),
awaiting the arrival of the body of the late Evangelical preacher who passed away at his home nearby.
There's nothing more country than living in the Bible Belt.
Billy was the only televangelist i ever really respected. he burned up a lot of good will he had earned by being friends with Nixon, and by not speaking out more about the Civil Rights struggles, but you could hear the sincerity in his voice when he spoke...
It's been almost 11 years since I built my house in the woods, so actually I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner..
My fox chasing, coon chasing cat finally met his match last night and hopefully learned a lesson...
Last night about 8:00, we heard him crying on the porch.. He'd been "skunked"..
He was a mess when I went out, eyes glued shut, drooling all over the porch, and acting obviously scared...
Mrs. G mixed H2O2 with baking soda and dish detergent and I went out to try and help him..
Carefully wiped off his head and face with a warm water rag and then did my best to wash him with the solution.
Then a warm water rag to rinse him off..
Poor guy was very shaken, as at 4 years old he had not experienced this before...
We usually let him sleep inside at night, after a good brushing, but not last night!
I put his indoor box on his porch table by the window, and gave him some old bath towels to keep warm since he was still wet...
Luckily it stayed above 50 degrees last night..
He still stinks this morning. I may try to give him another bath.
He seems to know that I'm doing it for his own good...
That'll teach him a lesson... maybe.
That poor kitty is going to have a subtle odor for a while.
I had a cur dog when I was a kid that never learned his lesson with skunks and porcupines.
He had a constant eau' de skunk on him and it became routine to have to pin his head to the ground with a pitchfork and pull the quills out one by one.
sure would like to put something like this on a lake up here, but what a bother to do for the few short months it could be enjoyed. Do it on a southern lake & live year 'round on it, tire of the life & sell it 'floating' as is.......
slammed on my brakes to avoid a deer 'bout 10 days ago, after hitting the hooks hard & slowing the brakes went right to the floor, a blown brake line. In the past I'd replace a brake line myself, but not anymore, I had to hire it out.
An old friend came to the rescue. Mike picked up n' dropped off my car, replacing the brake line, parts & labor $50! the other 'driveway or shadetree' mechanics were $75/80 p/hr plus parts. I gave Mike $70.
