I gave my first wife a .380 Auto Back-up for our wedding.

Not too awful long afterward, I realized, "A person should know another a lot better before marrying them.. and a WHOLE lot better before giving them a handgun while cohabitating with them... unless they're really into a long, drawn out game of what amounts to a newer version of Russian Roulette."

The version of that game wherein you get out of bed each day, and wonder if that's the day when your partner drinks enough to point a loaded gun at you....

For my second marriage, I simply gave my wife a ring, a trip up the Cassiar and Alaska Hwys, and some craft supplies...

I waited nearly 2 decades before she got a handgun from me as a gift.. By then I was fairly sure she wouldn't point it at me.. Though a person can do some horrific damage with a knitting needle, let me tell ya'!!

Edit: I should add that the story about my first wife and the .380 Auto is true. But while my second/long-term/current wife indeed engages in crafts, and I -have- purchased supplies and tools for, unlike my first wife, she's never assaulted me. I did much better the second time around.. ;^>)

knowing what I do by now about the 'fairer sex' I'd have to say that you guys are all optimists, I wouldn't keep anything in the house sharper than a butter knife, never mind any guns.......

i tried to teach my wife how to shoot a pistol...right up until i realized she was better at it than i was. i'm not afraid at all that she might shoot me, but i flinch like a son of a bitch thinking what she could do with a cast iron skillet while i'm asleep. that wouldn't bother the neighbors or wake our sons up...:yoinks:
