mice are easy, not so smart
peanut butter works, but the best?
plain, simple bread, roll up a small dough ball
mice love bread, kind of KISS like
Peanut butter does work well, but so does bread. I stuff one side of the bait chamber with bread and slap a little peanut butter on the other end. The peanut butter attracts them and if they go for it they can’t help but keep licking. If they don’t like that they go for the bread.

I don’t really have a problem with mice except for the ones the cat brings in. She keeps them at bay but sometimes brings them home to play.

Once one got into my room, girdled a plant, and staggered out. Just picked him up and threw him out the back door.

Something was eating her Citrus fruits - rats caught on Rat Cam (setting rat traps)

Something was eating her Flowers - rabbits caught on Rabbit Cam

Moving it up the hill. looking for skunks, possums, raccoons or coyotes

The dog has been Skunked a few times and killed skunks and possums, I want to see where they are coming from

Excellent gift 420, you'll get a lot of use out of a camera. I have two but one seems to always go out, amazon replaces it though.
I've gotten some really decent pics of the wildlife here, mostly at night though. Little bit of everything, like National Geographic here sometimes.
One of the stranger things is this fox that comes by at least once a week and takes a piss in the container of drinking water left out for the deer and others.
It has picked up people before where they don't belong as well, so it's nice for that for sure.

I've witnessed this in the woods, one of my shooting lanes (rifle, so long lanes) from my deer stand looked over what a trapper later told me, was a 'piss post'.

Fox supposedly communicate territory, dominance or pecking order w/each other via any number of specific spots, of course there are many other similar trees, stumps & posts in the woods, I could see just this one.

:dunno: can't say for sure why he'd piss in, or purposely 'mark' a water source, does he drink from it first?

EDIT:
btw, never use fox urine as a cover scent while deer hunting, although they're small, fox are still predators; instead go with doe in heat scent or something like raccoon piss if you're hunting over a bait station, raccoon are cool with deer & a likely scent deer would encounter as they too would be attracted to any deer food laid out.

The fox never drinks from the container, only the deer, squirrels and birds.
They are basically dogs it seems with the territory marking, at another spot they mark the same area in the middle of a dirt road at a high spot. Lots of times they will be travelling in pairs and one will go out of its way to mark that spot in the road.
There is a fenced enclosure around our chicken coop with net over the top and several hot and neutral electric fence lines around it.
After it gets dark I'll go out and lock the coop and after opening the gate and walking in one night I shined alight on a fox about five feet from the coop door that was open. He stared at me for almost two seconds and turned around and ran or jumped through a 4x6 fence square at three feet high like it wasn't there at all.
He probably climbed on top of a worm bin to get in initially, because that is the way he left, landed on it. The area with the worm bin is a garden with the same fencing but without net overhead, so not sure if he jumped through or climbed over that fence.

9 out of 10 of the gun shops you know of are in a neighbors basement, invite only, most that I know of don't even have a roadside sign, just a small one @ the entry door.

if I could only rent a corn snake for a week.

now THERE is a laid-back business idea - renting out snakes to people with mouse, rat, or snake problems. corn snakes for mice, big-ass black snakes for rats, copperheads, & other unwanted critters... you could super-glue a small transmitter so you could find them when the rental ended.:tiphat:

Until you try to find the snake. When I was a kid my friend had a boa that got out. They turned on the dish washer and got a bloody surprise.

seriously, dude! catch a few snakes, feed them mice, crickets etc. they don't bark at night & keep you awake, hey, wait...rent out copperheads & rattlers as home security teams too! hang signs on the doors "CAUTION-SECURITY RATTLESNAKE ON DUTY INSIDE!" i've seen jewelry stores do it. saves time putting the inventory away at end of day. and copperheads won't warn you...
