Lol Dixon. If maaso did plant em 60 rebels plus Thai's there's isn't any room in the veggie garden for the ginger, gabbi, string beans and bok choy lettuce for the pork tamarind sinigang. And the goats just eat em rebels up in the hills if grown wild. q;-)

Hey "bad dog". How's life atm? Seems all good. That snaper and goat looks yummy brother. Very interesting flavor combo u have been gifted. Please do a journal soon and I'll be waiting on your smoke report. Why just 4 seeds? Where ur at without any/little LEO I would atleast do 2 of each plus your current grow to see what happens and if any keepers. I'm Hoping u will find what your looking for to pollen chuck for your future kool-aid flavors. I might have to swing by next year with a fishing pole when I go to Leyte, lol. Hopefully before my Gramps passes and to help make the coconut plantation more profitable. Anyways be safe "you bad dog" and may the trade winds always blow your way capt.
q;-)

Man Is it hot this morning....
Dingo,, thats not a bad idea,,,2 of each,,,,ideas on the table lad we'll toss it round and round a bit,,,but I do like that..
Thais are coming along nicely,,,slow as always but nice,,most of flowering now 2-3 looking like not worth a dam,,,BUT,,Ive gotten some of my best smoke from plants I WAS gonna rip out and toss, so I let um run there course see what happens.
Still wanna hear from Bababooey..

I bet It's hot as hell bro. BTW how u catch that red? Hand reel or pole? Also what test line u use for that? I'm already buying Penn reels and poles. Just gotten 2 last week, so dozen more to go for when i go home next year. LOL. So figure 1 or 2 new ones a month till then cause of $. Realitives go nuts over American made or bought. Gives em bragging rights in the villages. Last years storms wrecked major havoc to my parents land and coco trees, but the new house just built didn't even get a scratched. Built like a abrams tank Thanks God! I hear ya on those crapola ladies, sometimes the best smokers are the ugly duckings. lol. Sometimes my buddy will bring couple non keepers he wasn't happy with and I'll just find a home for em in my back yard (woods). Atleast have some blunt weed worst case. Still decent bag seeds though, were both to chicken shit to order thru the mail cause its pretty rough here in our state.... Grrrr!!! Anyways happy growing and until next time be safe capt!

Haha, sorry, I figured I would let others chime in first, thought it was a group vote thing.
I would go with the ECSD x Durban Poison and the Blueberry Dream.
Have heard universally good things about the BD, no ones not ever liked it.
And the ECSDxDB, sour diesel is another one of those strains that makes it onto most people's top 5 list, and the Durban Poison i believe is a mostly sativa strain, which may make it more resistant to the island environment.
Hopefully these seedlings make it and even thrive; if they start to wither off, maybe make crosses with the surviving ones to your existing thai's, hermie or no you need strains that are able to grow well in your environment.

Quite an amazing thread..sun sand and surf..makes me envious....We got 2 inches of snow last night...lol in comparison

I am curious about whether or not you have tried growing some of the more common North American veggies (seed only) there?

I have seen pole, green, potato, etc. references... Any veggies you miss that you don't have seed for....? Okra..rhubarb..carrots? or do you find enough local produce that comes close...I see you grow cukes also..

How exactly do you receive mail? Drop off box at the closest transportation hub and a pickup only ever few months?

Are there any conditions/laws about bringing non-native plant species to the island?

Living in Manitoba we usually get wet fall weather..bad for crops ripening due to mold...Especially bad for herb....How well do your sativa's hold up....any issues with mold?

Cheers

He went to a carpet store and got a carpet tube, they are hardcore cardboard and great for packing, he cut it to size sealed it up and was off to the races...

Yea I was trying for a group thing but it didnt go well,,so on the spot you went lad,,,then I got impatient.
Just this morning I went with 2 of each and we'll see what happens,,,I'm looking to get clones from all as well.
If all goes well this is gonna be a lotta fun,,,the Idica males I had were just plain cool to look at,,,big ass fatty leaves made a cool contrast with the skinny Thai leaf.
Be sure there will be complete reporting on this grow, and to be honest this is the first time Ive ever had any high quailty beans so im a lil jervous and nerky about it...

Welcome aboard lad,,, settle in below find a nice bunk,, just started a new grow so things are gonna get interesting round here in a few weeks.
We grow just about any veg we like and can get seeds from all over, but mainly Asian countries. The one and only thing I can say I miss and cant grow ,,for what ever dozens of reason,,,are big tomato's,, beef steak,,,better boys,,,tryed um all,, heirlooms,, seeds from Holland, germany austria States aisa,, and grow big monster vines and plants with yellow flowers dripping all over um,,,,,so whats the prob you ask ????
I dunna know,, flowers wont set fruit,, they just wither a fall off,,best answer I get is heat ,,,to hot for fruit to set, even at night,, and pisses me off cause I can grow all the thick skinned romas and cherry toms I want..

Mail,,yup mail drop couple hundred klicks north,, If it gets there It will get here, just take a loooooooong time....
Yea theres a lot of conditions not really any laws,,excluding native ways of dealing with crime when it comes to us living here, but its more of the reverce ,, they dont want anything taken from here or brought here without UNESCO approval and they all ways say no,,just like when we first came here.

great sport but tastes shite. i know in the islands they often like the fishier tasting fish but im a coral trout man myself. mans gotta have taste.

still waiting to see some dogtooth action. early morning troll dead baits on the steeper open ocean drop offs. nothing like 200 lb of doggie t feed a village.

you grow any ace gear. I know you said your sick of the thais and stuff but ace gear is prime for your local.

Also re the goats and herding issues. Import a australian bred started sheep dog. working kelpie or the like. You will get a best friend and the goats wont know what hit them. There worth their weight in gold and they only ask for a bit of love and a feed twice a day. Hell they will make your buffalos dance on two feet. My mates dog can clear a paddock of cows in no time and sort the milkers from the beefers and put them in different pens. All you gotta say is go get em boy, he does the rest on instinct.

Its by far not the worse tasting fish ,,but when its the only one you catch that day its dam good eatin, and cooked open flame till its a bit dry helps out then dip it in a citrus and soy mix.
Stay tuned ,,Yellow fins will be making their way past here in a few weeks or so.

Hey maaso. That's a great idea about the carpet tubes. Never would of thouht about that lol. Ever try growing em tomatoes in hempy style buckets? Also try to start em end of January in your house using hybrid seeds and find a spot of shade under a tree for the hotest 4 or 5 hours of the day. As long u can get 3 hours of the rising sun and 4 hours of setting sun with the shade during most the noonish. But I think if not mistaken you need the hybrid seeds or your just pissing into the wind brother. My family lives in south Provence so temps and humidity close to same maybe. I'm not sure how your property set up but mark the area of shade by a tree or building around 10 ish am and again another mark at 3 ish pm. Split the middle area and put hybrids inbetween the marked spot. Worth a shot anyways capt. Anyways be safe and thanks for the idea sending fishing poles. I'll send em about 45 days before i go back home and just pack the reels with duffle bag of charmin t.p. lol. Be safe bad dog and start that journal in few days once em beans pop. Glad your doing 2 each at first to kick the tires and see what happens and figure how to dial em in. q;-)

Masa's already got dogs, they can be seen in some of the pictures in this thread; these long, lean, rangy type dogs, with very short fur; probably well suited to the local climate. I think they help with the animals some, but he lives on a tropical island, not a grass prairie, and the whole animal herding thing works differently there I think. The goats and the pigs and the cattle seem like they have to look out for themselves a lot, and they have safe places they go to when a storm's coming, or a big ass monitor lizard is nearby.

I think the 2 seeds each thing is a good idea, and regular updates on their progress would be much appreciated. Hopefully you can start growing plants that finish, from seed to chop, in less than 6 months.

So you're going tuna fishing soon? Can you handle a 200 kilo monster? If you manage to get that thing in your boat, there'll hardly be enough room for you I think. But good eating, one big fish could probably feed the village...

So anyone can just mail you seeds, then? Just takes a long time?

Hey capt. I had gotten little home sick and searching into central luzon univeristy library and you can grow different variety tomatoes once they been grafted with an eggplant and under shelter for the hottest hour for a better yield. Best to make rectangle shelter north to south. Even reg. Hybrid will work but harvest isn't as good as the grafted. also if the container higher off the ground the better due to rain and heat.

Nice to meet you Masa, we have something in common...we both have a 3yr old (mine turned 3 in november)...He loves 'Mater and Lightning McQueen..

Tomatoes....There is a chemical solution you can use to spray on the flowers to ensure they set fruit in adverse conditions...
Might just be the ticket....
Cool nights are definitely needed for natural fruit set....the spray works tho...

And here is the science behind it..:
The active ingredient is the man-made auxin (hormone) 4-Chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA) that is well known to promote fruit set commercially. Bio101--Why it works:

"...Fertilization within the ovules stimulates the ovary enclosing them to begin growing into a fruit. Within a few days the ovary begins to swell. This is called the fruit set.

Fruit development is under the influence of the plant hormones auxin and gibberellin. Pollen is one of the richest natural sources of auxin, so it is thought that the initial stimulus to fruit growth comes simply from the auxin to which the pistil is exposed as a result of pollination.

Applying the hormone auxin or gibberellin to the ovaries of flowers can induce a fruit to develop without pollination or fertilization. This is called a parthenocarpic fruit and is, of course, seedless."

It is a great thread, by far the most massive ever for the Introduction Forum. :yoinks:

I will see if I can make it a sticky, so that it would appear at the top of the Forum,
because this has become a popular destination for people from all over the world.

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Rite on guineapig. Maaso is defently living a life of self sustainability that most peeps daydream about during work and caught up into there humdrum of city life. Even back home in my village, its somewhat modernized for a 3rd world civilization there's nothing more rewarding then what you sow and can utilize as in maaso case for survival. It takes character of steele and family, friends and a caring community to weather out the rollercoaster of bad and good times where life and value matters most.
