wtfn's 4000w legal medical soil food web organic grow show

Haha, I'm going to take that as a compliment, regardless of your intention. :tiphat:

I've been out of town for 3 days now, so I've been getting a little nervous. Well, I just got a cell phone pic, which I won't post since I'm not sure if my girlfriend has her location data turned off, and it looks GREAT!!

I was mostly concerned about my a/c, with that rigged up thermostat, but I can clearly see my therm/hygrometer is at 73*/53% humidity. Wonderful. That tells me that they won't need water until at least tomorrow (room humidity is typically 45% when they need watering). I'll be home tonight, after a Thai food pit stop. :)

Just to close the gap, yes, everything was fine when I got home. Great, actually. They still didn't need water, so I waited until this morning to give them a light watering.

I whipped out my pocket microscope today and ordered some new batteries (shopping: $13 for 3 energizer batteries at radioshack, $11.50 for 3 energizer batteries at batteries+, $5 for 50 off-brand batteries on amazon, and I went with $6.50 shipped for 10 energizer batteries on amazon) but with the HID lighting the built-in light is not entirely necessary. The trichs on the blue cheese are the milkiest, which is odd because it can be considered a 10-week strain. The purple platinum OG's are next, with mostly clear but some milky, already very swollen trich heads. The sublimes are trailing behind in general. The trichs are still very small, but picking up speed in swelling. They are mostly clear with some milky heads, stalks are still short. I may let them go until Thanksgiving or later (10 weeks).

Anyway, with these trichs finally coming close to the finish line, and the buds getting really big and dense, and a little money in my pocket for breathing room (not to mention the 1/2 lb of skywalker/pre 98 bubba I'm picking up in a little while) I can clearly feel my knotted nerves starting the long unraveling process. I'll still feel wrenched up inside by the end of next grow I'm sure, but things are starting to get better now.

Hi whythefnot Looking at your canopy there and being a seasoned SOG grower I reckon you will pull 55-58oz from that run maybe as much as 80 if top nuggets are really swollen and podded out ... Looking good and the few hiccups with A/C ect I don't think will have affected end result .... All the best ACAB

Hey man, thanks for the visit.

I always welcome final yield estimates -- I encourage them, actually! I was going to start taking bets soon.

But 3.5 lbs seems awfully light for this grow, even with the issues I've had. That would be the lowest gpw (.39) I've ever grown, and that's saying a lot. You say that the a/c problems and other stuff probably didn't affect yield too much, but then low-ball the yield estimate. What other issues are you taking into consideration? In other words, what suggestions would you give for better yield next time from this room? You must see something that I do not. I've screwed up yield pretty badly in the past, and this run certainly does not look that bad to me. There are 37 healthy plants, the smallest of which look like they'll approach 2oz from my best estimate.

I guess now's as good a time as any to start taking estimates on final yield. If the winner will accept it, there will be a prize for closest estimate of total bud yield. Remember, this is 4000w in an 8.5x8 canopy.

I'm putting ACAB down for ~56oz right now.

sorry thought you only had 20 plants in there :wallbash: my fault for flash reading a thread sorry.... between 90 and 115 my guess is 6.2lb :)

With a SOG grow its all about an even canopy I have found for max yield also this with defoliation and good air movement will never fail you lots of SOG's I have seen have very good top colas and thereafter everything is a little spongy and wispy as light penetration is about 40% that's why I defoliate. Stretch is another big problem as it reduce nodes ect I se you have air cooled lights so I would be inclined to have them literally 6 inch off the top of the canopy and move accordingly ( this will help get even spread rather than a tall stretchy one creating a shadow over another) Another thing I do when plants first go in for first periodof veg is to remove the growth tip by just pinching it off, this will make them explode.

Great, you had my stomach turning for a minute. Thanks for the quick reply, haha.

That all sounds like solid advice, though I'm not sure I'm comfortable with defoliation to any degree, but everyone has their techniques that work for them. Maybe one day I'll get the hang of doing it successfully.

I'm keeping the lights about 2ft from the plants this run just to be on the safe side. I had them closer and was having humidity/vpd issues localized to the tops. I've doubled air movement in the room since then so it shouldn't be a problem any more, but I'm not wanting to take any chances right now. I know there are plenty commercial growers that pick their lights up high and chalk up the loss to increased penetration provided by multiple light sources, so I don't consider it a huge deal for a first run. Also, as I drop the lights closer, I can see the area of very intense light getting narrower and narrower -- obviously there's an increase in intensity, but I feel like I'm selling some tops short for the sake of the ones directly under the light. When I have the money for a light meter I'll dial in the light distance, but I'm in no rush.

I wouldn't consider this a SOG grow at all. These plants are much too big for that IMO. I like the generalized term "POTG" (pots on the ground) for this grow, since as far as I know there is no term specific to growing medium numbers of small-ish plants. I've sort of mimicked a SCROG through topping and FIMing (and pinching, as you suggested) but without a screen, it's just an OG grow. :)

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned for the results over the next few weeks!

I marked down my final yield estimate, but I won't post it online so as not to skew anyone else's estimate. It's still gonna be at least 2 weeks before I have a final weight, so I'll be taking estimates up until two fridays from now (Nov 30th).

Check out what I got today!! 18 Blue Bubbas, 4 or 5 girl scout cookies, and about 18-ish Seaweed, which came highly recommended. It's a Super Silver Haze x Blue Dream cross. Time for transplant!

You have similar purple leaves of my plants after little pk over, can you confirm?

I'd love to, but I don't really understand your question. I'm not feeding any nutes, -- only compost tea from worm castings -- if that's what you're asking. I'm positive that the most colorful plants got that way due to temp/humidity issues early in flowering. They were the crispiest, now they're the most colorful. But even the healthiest of the sublime og's have dark purple colas and purple-tinged leaves. There's a lot of color in this plant.

Unfortunately, trichome development on the sublimes hasn't been what I had hoped. I talked with my clone guy yesterday about it, and he urged me to be patient with them. In the past 3 - 4 days there has been an explosion of trich growth in the buds, so I'm hoping it continues, and at this point they look like they'll take another 2 weeks max. The PPKs may be ready next weekend. The trichs are swollen, roughly half milky/cloudy, half clear. The blue cheese is coming down in the next few days. I tried a small wet sample bud in the vaporizer and she's really strong, with a nice clear high. I'll probably keep the whole plant for personal smoke anyway so I can take her a hair early so I have a daytime smoke.

Day 56

Update time!!

Well, we've made it to the final stretch, and in doing so secured our homestead here in SoCal. Week 8 has been pretty trouble-free, aside from my a/c freezing up once (temp was 81 and rising one morning when I went in, window unit was a solid block of ice -- turned the knob from 'Power Saver' to 'High', no problems since).

When I went in last night 3 of the largest branches had collapsed under the weight. They were still attached so I taped them back to the stalks with duct tape. Next run will get staked or maybe a scrog, I haven't decided yet.

On to the pics...
