WOS AK Landraces Cheap Chinese LED closet experiment

Some good news... I just tried my first hit of the runt of my first litter and also the one I let mature the longest. It is the only one so far where I can taste how this smoke smells when growing. I mean I can taste overtones of the tangy funk you get when rubbing the main stalks of these, although the specimen in question had some smells while growing that I thought were bad. It was a mutant baby in its growth pattern and was dwarfed, yet produced as much as plants twice its size, more dense buds and had an orange scent to it unlike the others as it got later into flower. I can taste these same tangy funk overtones in good Blueberry and someone else commented after rubbing the stock that it smelled like cheese, I assume the strain. Never had cheese personally, but I assume that is complimentary. So yes, I am bullish on this strain, especially for the price. If I ever get my shit together and do a serious grow, I will certainly run some of this, not because I got a few hundred seeds out of this last run, but because it is something I think most smokers would appreciate from time to time. I also suspect i have not really found "the one" yet, so I am excited about the possibilities. I do not have the male used for pollinating these and creating the Bhutanese x Afghan cross, but I do have cuts of all of the mothers, so I am in decent shape to not lose any ground if i don't find some dramatically better specimens as I grow out more seeds.

Here's a few bud shots, keep in mind this plant was the farthest away from the LED and still produced this density, telling me that the light works and more importantly, phenotype has a huge impact in the end result. And judging a book by its cover in plant selection is folly.

Today... The Hempy continues to kick ass on the soil, however the soil is starting to flower at long last. My canopy is all over the place but you can see that the light works well enough to handle that w/ no problems. I am sure glad I didn't spend 2 or 3 times as much to get one of the high dollar domestic LED's...just can't see them being superior enough to warrant paying 2 or 3 times the dough based on the results I am getting. Is this light as good as say Advanced or one of those guys, no, but plenty good enough.

This picture makes the space look way bigger than it is...the total space is maybe slightly over 2x2', so like TV, pictures make things look bigger than they are. The biggest one of these is maybe 40" tall after stretching from about 18-20". So expect this strain to double in size when it goes into the stretch if you ever grow some.

Shots of the cross. The leaves have maybe a nicer smell than either parent, the stem smells strong and funky like the afghan, but different.

Afghan in hempy as of now and the last shot is the AfghanxBhutan F1's. They are a little over 3 weeks old and in the flowering space already.

Current shot of the flowering space. The plants on the right that are less developed are in soil. They are finally starting to show some flowers. Everything on the left is hempy. One tweak on this run is a 14 hour day. I am pumping it up because if the strain allows it's supposed to dramatically increase potency. Since this strain is already stony, it will be interesting to see if it's noticeable.

I think I sprinkled some Purple bud pollen on a branch or two of the afghan, so we shall see if anything comes of that.

I have another little auto flower that is either a Pakistani Ryder or a Hindu Kush Ryder. I am thinking about using that for a go at making some auto flower seeds, but it may end up being female and I am not sure i will get anymore purple bud pollen, so....

I sampled via pinner doobie some of the last plant harvested now that it has had a chance to cure a bit and I would say that this strain could easily be a regular in the top shelf Indica department at any dispensary. I consider myself a rookie in that I have not tried anywhere near everything that is out there, but I would gladly pay $35 an eighth for this quality (going rate at local dispensary considered cheap in the summer) any time of year (If I was not growing it...). This smoke will zonk you out if you're not careful, so it's not the best for a productive day unless you're a serious veteran excessive pot-head type that can smoke all day no matter what it is. The funniest part of me saying all of this is that I know there are better specimens of this strain in my future and I am already pleased without having to go through starting 100 seeds and culling and all that BS... The worst of the first 3 girls came out like high grade Mexican weed (stony, but disappointing immature crap), but I suspect that may end up being a lot better than that first showing on the second run I am in the middle of right now as I am taking proper care of this plant group. That one has the best smell of the 3 IMO and that is why I didn't already shit-can that pheno. We shall see and I will report. Yeah, that's a highly recommend if you missed that on this here WOS Afghan Kush Landrace.

I know the 3 people that look at this thread lose sleep waiting for the next installment in the BT growing fiasco, so here you go, some current shots of the micro-jungle.

I am so hard up for space I created a little mini-coliseum situation using using tape and some solo cups....on the left hanging from a piece of cardboard used as a separator just above the blackstar 180 down on the flo.

I now know that if you flower these puppies as soon as they get to be around 10" high you end up with a plant about 24-26" high of mostly buds IF you pick the right phenotype, for whatever that may be worth to someone else.

The rest of the pics are one of the top of the biggest plant which is in soil and is just starting to show a significant amount of flowers. The right side of space is two soil plants, same strain, but different cut than those running in hempy. The largest one in hempy is younger but way farther along in flowering and that is on the left side of the space towards the rear...a couple or 3 bud spears poking up back there...those are pretty solid bud, that is, virtually bud all the way up the branches, as opposed to the soil based units which has a much looser profile. The bigger one in hempy has a funky smell which I can't even describe other than to say it's sort of herbal, but she's stony and a good solid producer. The smell is not unpleasant, yet not what I would call pleasant either, but it is one hit for me. The taste is better than the smell, but it too is odd. I would say raw compared to the shi-shi stuff you see in dispensaries with crazy faddish Hollywood type names.

OK, the rest of the pics... just some BS to look at, ...left is all hempy, the looser plants on the right soil, yadda, yadda, yadda. These pictures are not the best, sorry.

Edit: Oh yeah, I definitely overdid it with the Purple Bud pollen, I am seeing seeds forming up all over the place.... not too crazy, but I think I missed a little. One other thing I failed to mention is the plant I have been thinking is a auto that sprouted way after the fact may be something else altogether. Possibly a seed that fell from a bud from one of the plants grown in that same pot, but it doesn't look like any of the other Afghans and certainly it's not Bhutanese, so WTF? It's Indica clearly, but from where?

Bhughani...LOL some made up BS, but it makes sense based on the parents... Current shots from last night at about 29 or 30 days from seed without a good light regimen. Obviously these things would blow up outside... I hope I have the opportunity to do an outdoor run sometime, but it's not in the cards anytime soon unless I find someone who is competent, trustworthy and has the land to handle it. These are F1's, so the main p[oint on this micro batch is F2 seeds, though the F1's smell better than either parent in regards to the aroma that comes from the leaves as opposed to the stalks which smell similar to a blend of both parents, but maybe leaning slightly towards the Bhutanese. Obviously the phenotype is leaning heavily towards the Afghan father strain, but the Bhutanese (of which I still have a mother plant) was bushier than you'd think at the base of the plant, but of course turned into a bean pole when it went into stretch. Picture this bushy ass base and then a bean pole sticking out of it with tiny branches if any. The Bhutanese had the stickiest stalks I have ever touched and I have touched 2 or 3 in the past.

Edit: BTW, I think the bushier of these two is a girl and the other a boy, but it's a bit soon to say for sure.

This is sad....not enough space....it's already fallen off a couple of times and spilled perlite into the plant below, so no, those aren't all seeds, some of that is perlite. One of those 2 babies hanging on the cardboard separator I will flower in the solo cup, just to see what happens, the other ehhh, not sure. I started a bunch of tomato's 'n' such and am having to do a little vegging in the flower chamber action to make room for the veggies.

1) Hempy Afghan 2) Hempy Afghan+seeds 3) Afghan "B", the lanky best smelling of the lot. 4) Wide angle of the flower box of death 5) Bhughani day 35 from seed, put on 14/10 on about 2/1/13. Just showing sex, not 100% yet, looks like 1 & 1 so far.

I really got sloppy with the pollen, probably partly due to my less than great vision. I am guessing several hundred F1's of Seedsman's Purple Bud x WOS Afghan Kush land race. Fortunately, at least one of the Afghan girls pollinated is a keeper, so the babies should be at least a little interesting. I think I am done screwing around with crosses for now, so if I do any more seed runs anytime soon it will be to create F2's or refresh the "pure" land races I have.

Hempy WOS Afghan Kush 48 days from light cycle change. Heavily seeded on the lower half, finishing more top to bottom, vs. bottom up in soil. Pretty much solid bud all the way up unlike the cut in soil which is much more loose. That's in picture 2 for comparison. The cut in picture 2 is older by maybe a few days, but not from the same mother. Obviously, it is at least 2 or 3 weeks behind the hempy unit.

Bhughani about 42 days old now, being light/space starved and on a 14/10 since around the first. We're mainly going for F2's on these, but they smell so good I would of course love to try some mature flowers.

This is a wrap on the WOS Afghan Land Races hempy unit at about 52 days. This is a stoney Indica or Afghanica strain, if you prefer. I recommend it to any Indica lovers. You need to pick and choose your pheno.'s, but it is a rockin' strain. Don't pay more than you need for Indica. That's bad. These are a good value. If grown Hydroponically from clones you can easily finish a proper pheno. in less than the advertised flowering period of 55 days.

The seeds in the buds are a cross of WOS Afghan Kush x the Seedsmans' Purple Buds if anyone was curious.

Here's some BS to look at....

Bhughani in back of two little Afghans pic 1

Pics 2 & 3 some stand-alone Bhughani shots.

Pic 4 more of the usual Afghan Kush flowering.

5 is the Solo champ for chuckles. I have one around 2 times that big in a yogurt container, which is in the first shot on the far left.

Bhughani. I think they're both girls. The tall one showed pistils first by a few days. The shorter and bushier of the two has some really chunky branches for such a small plant (last picture). It must be a little of that hybrid vigor. They both have interesting but different scents. Of the two, the bushy one smells the most pleasing to me. The taller of the two is taking after the father Afghan side in profile and flowering so far. The bushier of the two is behind in flowering but is more robust. The leaf size on the taller one is closer to the Afghan father, whereas the picture with a leaf going from my wrist past the end of my hand is the shorter bushy plant and is a big leaf like you would see on the Bhutanese mother. Both of them seem to be more pale than either parent to me by just a little. These are roughly 56 days old from seed and are smaller than they could be due to light and space limitations. I suspect these would get truly massive outdoors.

Bhughani...both females, so at least two pheno's in the F1's, probably more. The taller one is flowering more quickly, but the bushy one has always seemed more robust and has a better scent, IMO.

Afghan.... random shots of the flower box. Just like the last time, the soil based units are flowering bottom to top and of course, Hydro seems to run top to bottom. someone was talking about N being bad during flowering and one of these pictures shows what that person meant, it's the second to last one where you see the top of the biggest one shooting out a bunch of stem and leaves. It is a monster clone, that partly why it's doing the craziness, N could also be part of it, but I do not think so.
