Not all cops are bad. Jim Gierach from LEAP has done some work with us in the past. He is a great speaker, wealth of knowledge and just a down right nice guy. His presentation is powerful.

When people are talking about this bill, we need to get a few things straight that otherwise are confused with conjecture. The media is using many false statements as negatives.

We also, as a movement, need to be more consistent to get the message across. How you do that is with talking points.

Here are the current talking points that we hope you will also use:

1) This is a bi-partisan effort. Access to medicine that works for you recommended by a doctor, less prohibition, freedom are not liberal or conservative concepts.

2) Medical marijuana states are not uncommon in the US. 16 states and Washington DC have medical marijuana laws, 32 total states have some flavor of favorable medical marijuana law.

3) There are many currently available smokeless inhalation devices. In addition, there are many different delivery methods such as salves, tinctures, foods and drinks.

The State of the State has been scheduled for January 25th at 7pm at the Capitol in Madison, WI.

Can you make it?

I have filed a permit with Capitol Police so that marijuana activists can assemble outside of the Assembly chambers where Gov. Scott Walker will be giving his address, as has been done in years past. If you have a press pass, you can enter the chambers for the address. Please no advertising, tables, displays, signature gathering unless you file your own permit as mine will not cover that.

This gathering has been good for getting a word in with the Governor, and getting face time with legislators before and after the address.

Please join us with signs (no sticks), literature and put your best foot forward to offer a quick few words to our legislators and Governor.

Tip: be prepared to only have a second or two up to 15 seconds to get your point across, as in past years my experience has been that it's all the time they want to give me. You may have better luck than I have.

State Lobby Day is coming for Wisconsin on Wednesday January 16th, 2013.

http://www.wiscan.org/community/ind...-2013-state-lobby-day-madison-wisconsin.8590/

Northern Wisconsin NORML representatives are looking for your input.

Please take a moment and consider these questions:

1) Will I travel to Madison to participate in Lobby Day?

2) Can I help bring others to Madison by car pooling?

3) I cannot travel to Madison, but would still like to help in some way, specifically on that Wednesday.

If you answered Yes to either question 1 or 2, please contact Executive Director Rich Martin via email at [email protected], he will help organize the traveling group(s).

If you answered yes to #3, please contact the chapter immediately via email at [email protected] and we will contact you back with some ideas, if you have suggestions, please do not hesitate to include them in your email.

Here is the posting from Madison NORML about the Lobby Day:

Wisconsin State Cannabis Lobby Day is announced for January 16th, 2013 in Madison. SAVE THE DATE!

Posted on the Wisconsin NORML and Madison NORML Facebook Groups:

Letting folks know a couple of months out, so that plans can be made, and folks from the far reaches can arrange to attend. January 16th, 2013 will be WI State Capitol Lobby Day in the rotunda (exact times to be announced). Come one, come all. Learn, lobby and discover what is happening for the MMJ efforts in Wisconsin!

We have not received many updates but the times were announced:

“The Lobby Day is set to go from 10 a.m. until 4:30.p.m. Sounds like the Madison Crew will staff an information table, to be located in the first floor rotunda area, to provide information on the issue and help participants find their representatives.

They also say that if you agree that cannabis should be legalized at least for medical use, come to the Capitol Jan. 16. If you cannot make it, urge others to go and call and write your elected officials who need to hear from the new cannabis majority."

There are also planning or training meetings announced for each chapter prior to The State Lobby Day.

Wisconsin NORML: Marijuana law reform lobby day - Jan 16 at the State Capitol

1/10/13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

According to a recent AP news article Gov. Scott Walker said state residents would have to approve of marijuana reform, such as that passed by residents of Colorado and Washington, via referendum similar to Colorado and Washington.

Wisconsin's referendum process only allows for voter initiated direct legislation on a village or city ballot. This is different than Colorado and Washington and is codified in Wisconsin Statute 9.20.

The legislature must take action to place language on a statewide ballot for voters to have their say. A referendum must include language for the regulation and taxation of marijuana including hemp, allowing adults to consume or possess limited amounts of marijuana and allowing for cultivation, production, testing and retail sales of marijuana products.

Cannabis activists from across the state will be coming to the State Capitol to lobby our legislature to put such a referendum on the ballot. Please join us to move Wisconsin forward on this matter.

Jan 13 2-4pm @ WilMar Center 953 Jenifer St. Madison, WI - Lobby Training with former Capitol staffer and current union organizer $5 suggested donation.

Jan 14 7-9pm @ WilMar Center 953 Jenifer St. Madison, WI Madison NORML meeting will be Lobby Training with former Capitol staffer and current union organizer $5 suggested donation.

Jan 15 6pm @ WI State Capitol. Marijuana law reform activist presence at State of the State. Meet outside the Assembly chambers on 3rd floor of Capitol. In the past, this has offered us the opportunity to speak briefly with legislators. Have an elevator speech ready.

Jan 16 Lobby Day - Meet with legislators and staffers at WI State Capitol, lobby for the reform of marijuana laws. 10-4pm meet in rotunda at 10pm & 1pm if you'd like to lobby as a group.
