"diesel gas skunky" on the internet translates to: "it smells like plastic because I don't know how to grow."

Sour Diesel is sour lemon fuel (not Lemondrop).

Not plastic aka "gas". Not a significant skunk level either.

They don't have skunks in California so none of those people have a clue what a skunk smells like. They think weed is supposed to smell like shoe stores and upholstery shops. Cuz they do not know how to grow.
If you to THCVHUNTER on Instagram, there's a video of picture of a sea of Skunks up on a mountain top in Napa County, California.

That lime skittles is present in the Skunk puck i ran . Lime has been used by a few to describe Sour D . Lemon is not what I've ever experienced. Lime skittles exactly is and always was how I described it

To my recollection Bobhemphill said there are phenos similar to sour d . Possibly info posted on IG

I definitely taste the similarity , but I was hoping for more skunk

I understand environment is soo impactful .

I will one day get my dvr 's put to 5k or whatever they do nowadays. But I've yet to see the same flower structure of whst i got consistent

Pink hairs are Rez stock
Rock nugs were non existent
Little buds were a rarity

Unfortunately inferior bagseed from what I knew as sour D View attachment 19174211

That looks nice. I have a ton of Bob Hemphill stuff, but not that one. I couldn't get a straight answer on which Skunk he used, and then lost interest in it. Currently trying to decide between the 88g13hp x Puck, and the Puck bc2 for this next pack to pop.

Sour diesel is the new “road kill skunk” people gonna be selling seeds and clones looking for the elusive sour forever I personally don’t care once it taste good and sour enough I’m good

U can grow the best sour and someone is gonna say it’s not like I remember bc of whatever reason
I'm really curious to hear from guys who smoked it pre-Rez who also had been smoking really potent strains for at least a few years before hand.

The problem with all these yesteryear strains and their lore is nobody discloses how long that had already been smoking and what quality they had already been smoking before coming across their first experience with whichever fabled strain.

I was fortunate enough to start smoking my freshman year of college in Syracuse NY, getting the best weed from connects in Ithaca, Albany, and Buffalo.
When we got this peppery, uppy sativa that was sold as 'Pepper Weed' and over decade later coming across JackHerer and SSH a light went off in my head. But we also got Buffalo Blueberry - the one that started my passion for this plant. And that was just my first year smoking. I hadn't come across Beaster and Mexi schwag til years after college.
So when I come across 91, SSH, Blueberry, Haze now, they compare to what I was smoking in college but have also had standout plants and an occasional better plant in my own garden over the years.
I wonder if people who started off with brown weed and first smoked real bud developed this same passion as I had when I first smoked Blueberry. But without a fair and comparable palette to compare and evaluate the experience. Skunk to me after college would be different than Skunk to someone who only had 20-minute dirty highs from Mexi schwag for 5 yrs.

The old heads I've talked with talk fondly of Skunk, Chem, Sour, etc. But not as fondly as that unnamed yet high quality sensi Mexi or Colombian or Hawaiian they had during their first years of smoking. Those guys aren't chasing Sour - they're chasing '72 Lumbo and '68 Lambsbread.
The guys chasing Sour I notice are ones who started smoking in the late-90s to mid-2000s and/or started off with schwag.

PS, that first experience with Blueberry stands out for to this day. Yet I have had comparable plants from outcrossing and in crossing Blueberry lines. But I've also had better since then.

Lemon heads and lime Skittles aren't so far apart...
As @Wolverine97 said there is no big difference between lemon and lime candies, it's extremely similar so I don't understand why you consider them different. Lime are just green lemon who are a bit more sour and a bit less sugary but if you use candies to describe the smells/tastes the difference is non-existent.

100% agree with this, I don't care if it's not the original plant, what I want is a satisfying high with a taste I enjoy as well. I've never grown the "real" Sour Diesel because I live in Europe so it's not really easy to have access to clones here but I'ven grown a few different seeds with some Sour D genetics and I've found some really great plants in those seeds.
The first great seeds with Diesel genes I've grown were some Sour-Jack, not the Karma's cross but freebees given by Alien growshop from south Holland, I've found some wonderfully smelling/tasting plants in those, this was around 2008. Recently I've grow some Sowahh from Karma and found some great females, I've grown the 3 females I've had for the whole 2024 year, could not decide which one to keep so I kept them all. If I had not been forced to move from my last apartment I would still have those 3 plnts going on. To me this seed line is an excellent Sour Diesel representation, giving the possibility to grow some great buds to everybody who can't have easily the clones. I personally think 90% of the clones sold today are not from the 90's but come from seeds germinated in the 2000/2010's and even some more recently but no one will admit this is true because they make too much money selling fake old clones to too trusting customers with too much money seeing their ability to throw hundreds of dollars for bedtime stories.

I jumped on his puck offerings.
That old HASHPLANT holds a place in my heart. It was Amazing to have access after all these years later to the Puck Genetics

So, my very brief story;

I was born late 70's, so I wasn't around for all of the very best commercial weed (Thai, the early Colombians etc), but my parents always smoked and had good weed sources. So growing up, there was always high quality weed in the house (usually I should say, not quite always). They had a couple friends who grew indoors in the late 80's/early 90's, and that weed still stands out in my mind today. The Skunk, and NL in particular. That's the weed I got started smoking with, so definitely not schwag or mids, that came later for me.

I started growing in 95-96, not sure which. By 97 I had a small indoor setup in my parents basement. I first experienced Haze, and Sour Diesel early 2000's, from my cousin who went to NYU (and teaches there now, not that it matters). So I had already smoked a lot of very good weed by the time I tried those. And I would get a batch of Jamaican usually once per year around the same time. I sold weed, almost always decent quality Mexi brick, but once in a while my source would get a small batch of the Jamaican, and since I sold a decent amount of weed he would always hook me up when it came in. Only mention that to give some background, that I had good weed already... but the Haze and the Sour Diesel were very very unique.

That is the Sour I am after today. The Haze I still love as well, and usually have some growing in some form or another. I've grown several different Sour's over the years, and briefly had the one in my hands, but lost it. But I chase a lot of things, not just the Sour Diesel. I'm constantly popping different 120 day NLD types, looking for that special unique effect/flavor combo. And I run a lot of Kush types too, because I have trouble sleeping and they help.

Lots of confusion up in here.
There is definitely a lemon candy/grapefruit note to the Sour Diesel terp. It is most likely a 70/30 or even 80/20 split. Easily smelled when fresh heads are squashed.
At 77 days it’s perfect.
At 84 days, heads have gone amber and the lemon and grapefruit notes have faded some and the uppity high ain’t real clean but rather cloudy and I dare say even generic in its potential
Riri cut has a lavender terp going on but the buzz is all sour. The Rir reminds me of NYCDIESEL by Soma and it makes sense. Rez initially crossed the Chacos ECSD onto Somas NYCD and 1 in 10 were NYCD dominant and purpled near senescence in the SDIBL offering

I read on another site rez used seeds selected from a cross of sour I found it interesting don’t kno how true it is but they said sour d x afghan

The nycd pops up depending on the cross I grew some original diesel x karma sour and two went purple streaks and I have a Ecsd x headbangers that goes purple like lots of streaks of purple if I had to guess it’s the nycd doing that

Hopefully the Sour with the lemon heads candy pops up some day somewhere then lol. You'd think with a flavor and smell like that she'd be around still. The sours going around rn are skunky diesel with maybe a slight lemon-citrus hint but no where near enough for me to say lemon candy. I smoked some sour with that description in like 2014 wasn't actually sure if it was sour though. Hopefully it pops back up again Id like to run her. Until then the flavor/smell off karmas headbanger, and some sour dubble crosses are pretty good I'd say. Kinda reminds me of lemon candy/floral flavors with some gas.

I don't know what to say bro. I don't think it's just me who has this impression. You keep talking about it as if it's something "else", other than the original Sour Diesel. And yes you did apologize, which I appreciated, but then you went right back into doubting everything said by everyone. It's just frustrating, for people who had the real thing.

Now, Weasel says (Adam Dunn show interview) it's because he sold a half pound of seeded MSS, and all the original Sour cuts came from those seeds. I'm not sure if i believe that, or not. He openly says he wants to keep working those seeds, and make a new Sour bx. All I know is that was the first "Sour" I had, and the cut of Sour I got several years ago has the same smell/taste. I've grown a few others over the years that lacked the lemon head taste entirely, but were very diesel-y, with some grapefruit smell/taste on exhale.

I remember hearing that too, years ago, and thinking if he sold some seeded weed and other people found seeds in there better than his plants. Or that the people who got the seeds grew them out and tried to cut in on their buddy's market share. I could see how that would sour a bunch of relationships

The other thing to keep in mind is these were really small time guys who got weed from some big time guys.
If you just look at the social atmospherics and economy around nitrous at those shows, there's a strong hierarchy and everyone has to STFU.
Weed is a way bigger game than nitrous. So, getting hooked up by some old Dead Fam crew with the best weed out there...maybe these kids were even told what to say. Or were smart enough to make it sound like they are the only players in the chain and never speak of the Family

I may be wrong, but one of the only open-book breeding projects from pre-MMJ says was DJ Shorts Blueberry. And even he got hooked up with genetics by BOEL.
I haven't heard one single breeding story where someone was like yeah my buddy was in the military and brought these seeds back or I used to smuggle and this here is me breeding my best imports over the course of 10 yrs before I cashed out and bought some land.
Alien Tek was open about the Afghan, but again that was post-MMJ legislation.
The Bubba crew may have been the most transparent so far, talking about smuggling seeds back on a plane from Amsterdam - that was pretty cool.

But pre-MMJ, I don't think the full back story with all its facets will ever be openly published for all to read and archive.

You make some really good points/observations there! I hadn't even thought about it from that angle. Especially considering what was the main "network" that was operating in and around Dead Lot back then, they did not want attention by any means. Hmm.

Totally agree on this, too many stories will for ever stay in the shadows because it was illegal when many things were set in motion so many people don't want to reveal where their money really comes from. I still live in a country where it's 100% illegal to smoke or grow cannabis, even the flowers sold in CBD shops are supposed to be made into drinks to consume, what a joke. I've grown most of my adult life and never told to anyone except my family the real size of my grows, here I give some infos and share some pics but never the full picture.
