I had a teacher who had an odd story about staghorn sumac.

One summer a couple of his students did an internship of some sort or wrote some paper about the different tanin levels of stag horn sumac.

To do this they collected the dried flower pods one summer of sumac all over the state of Iowa, recording where it was found, etc. They were hauling a smaller enclosed uhaul to do this.

Highway patrol either sees them or just randomly pulled them over, not sure which. Apparently cops are new at there job and thinks it’s weed and takes them and the sumac to the cop shop.

The way he told the story, they were at the station for most of the day until they could get the teacher on the phone to explain what’s up.

I imagine it was the teachers explanation coupled with more experienced cops letting green cops know what’s up.

Lots of hemp in backroad ditches and elsewhere in Iowa, cops will bust you for picking even though it’s useless to smoke.

Sumac seeds are used in Fattoush Salads. It has a bitter lemon taste. Lebanese neighbors used to make it for me :)

Why would you want a camo plant that looks like cannabis, it'll surely attract attention.. you want something that will hide the plant and not draw attention from a distance. I don't think it's the best idea, there's even stories of workers calling the cops on neighbors because they had a japanese maple in their yard.

Thai red roselle ( hibiscus), I think that's a better option once it starts budding.

Valid argument. In a front yard settings I can see having the cleomes as one of many plants to mask the herb.

Outdoors I would like to use up to 30 varieties of plants to scribble out any identifiers to the naked eye.

One of the most effective camo is surely tall grasses that allow in the light but mask virtually every angle of attempting to look at the plant.

A long time ago I recalling seeing a write-up on how Africans grew guerrilla style and they used 2m tall dense grasses to crowd all around 1-3 plants and all of the branches.

It's a combination of finding plants that will thrive and reproduce and recreating a temperate zone trapping water and nutrients in the soil.
