I'm damn proud of that awning. I built it myself. I didn't have to pay some wannabe contractor a dime. Nothing but cost of materials. What's the point you're trying to make?
If I can do what you do with just a little research, but it would take you years to learn what I do, does that make me smarter?

We've had H-1B visa's since 1990, it's nothing new. Illegal immigrants with no skill getting free hotel rooms and food are a little different. Also these low skilled construction workers who don't speak English need to go home it's not making housing more affordable it's making it harder on blue collar workers born in America. It's also raising the cost of housing cause all these new people are living somewhere, keeping supply low and demand high. Even the price of food will have to go down with millions less demanding food.
IT is going to be a thing of the past soon enough, just seen AI can code better than 93% of human coders, still some issues, give it 5 years it's going to be a hell of a lot better.

It would be stupid to learn a lot of the tech jobs knowing AI is looking to make it all obsolete. At least with the trades it's going to be at least 20 years before robots can replace us. I also enjoy working on projects in the $20++ million dollars, you can see your work until the day you die, tech work in 5 years your work was done for nothing it's obsolete technology.

Why would they? My hourly rate is is much more than what you could get someone to build an awning for.
I'm trying to figure out what you think is so bad about that awning? It's based off of professional plans I adjusted to fit my patio and attach to the house under the roof overhang. I see the exact same thing on houses all over. Mine cost about $3k in materials instead of $10k plus having someone like you build the identical thing. You're not worth $4-5k a day in labor.

I've been self employed for years. There is no lack of work in the niche I operate in. What I do can't be replaced by an H-1B Visa. It doesn't meet the requirements as I don't work for a high tech company filling positions for full time workers. I consult for numerous smaller businesses. They don't have the need for a full time employee to manage their IT infrastructure other than maybe a lower level help desk worker for the minor day to day issues that might arise. For everything else they use consultants like myself.
But why are you still here attempting to denigrate me? You're not adding anything of value. You haven't articulated any coherent point of view. You've spent the majority of your contributions to this thread attacking me. You've done it on other threads as well. I'm flattered but your obsession is becoming concerning. It's not normal.

I've been hating on trump before he even ran for President back in 2016. I've disliked him since his stupid reality television show because I knew he was a piece of trash that cares only about himself and has been screwing people over his entire life.
I've been an opponent of the H-1B Visa program for years. I don't care who's in charge. In this case we have a guy that said they were bad and we shouldn't have them just 8 years ago. Now he says that they're great and that he's always liked them. Well that's not the truth and what he's saying now falls directly in line with musk who is the one calling the shots.
The guy should not have so much influence. Nothing musk does is for the benefit of America yet he's now setting policy that affects the country. Did you vote for musk?

You know if you spent more time to actually understand what people are saying you'd have a better grasp of the conversation. At no time did I say that I was for immigrants taking American jobs whether they be H-1B Visas or other immigrants. I stated my opposition to the H-1B Visa program and elaborated on my opinion of the differences between bringing in foreign workers for high tech jobs vs manual labor.
I know some say that lower wages for construction workers doesn't lower housing prices that benefit homebuyers. While it might not lower the cost it has helped keep the costs from rising faster than they have been. That has benefited many American home buyers.
The jobs that musk wants to use H-1B Visas for are not for consumer tech products but for AI and research oriented occupations. None of which will have any financial benefit to the consumer. While some might not understand the differences they do exist.
Now that looks like governmental efficiency to me.
