Anyone try the Afghan Selections strains? My next Afghan grow will be their Sholgar, but I've got a lot of RSC's Afghan Mix to play with, plus a few more of their strains too.

MLI is not a pure afghani, Nevil used a Skunk1 male in it also.+ three different Maple Leaf -Afghani females
..yea, i need to pop some of my MLI too once i have some room

Here’s Nevil on MLI when he was at MNS forums..

Q: "..maple leaf indica according to Ed R (same book) is: Female Ortega15 x Sam afghan skunk X male Skunk 18.5. Any idea if this is correct?"

I don't know what Ed is calling Maple leaf.
Ortega 15 was Maple leaf. This was crossed with AfgTx Sk and AfgS x sk males.
AfgT and AfgS were both sisters and pure maple leaf. Maybe Ed thought that AfgS meant Afg(Sam). It doesn't. The hybrid Ed is talking about is 3/4 Maple Leaf.
N.

Interesting. That's a shame, kinda, and kinda not, the Skunk probably improves the yield considerably.

I’d sure like to have Maple Leaf afghani seeds with out the sk too. It’s reportedly from Mazar region. Jim Ortega gave it to Nevil.

But Sk1 also fits fairly well with the ML trio. Nevil believed the Mazari SamS used in sk1 was related to the Maple Leaf-line.

Ortega types (named after Jim Ortega)are thinner leaf Affies and taller skinnier type by growth, so not all pure ML afghanis are BLD type either.

Here’s my Ortega pheno of Sensi Black Domina.
Below are 3 photos of the US Ortega cutting from the webs

I also hold some vintage white rhino, Afghan T female, which will cross nicely with the MLI.

But it looks amazing all that resin so early! 🤩😁 And the plant looks healthy...
Exactly but that was the issue too. It would get to that point but never get past that. Pistils would turn orange then recede but calaxys would not swell. It's like part of it would mature too fast and another part not at all. I grew it 2 times and both times into the hashbag. It had some kind of genetic hiccup as far as I could tell.

Don't know if anybody's mentioned Bob Hemphill's Crickets and Cicadas seeds yet, maybe I already did. They've got a few different versions of the hashplants from the 80s and 90s including the original Northen Lights. I picked up 90s Sensi Star x Puck BX3 and Purple Hindu Kush x M10 last winter. Puck is also called the Skully hashplant, I'm no expert on who's grown what strain where but I think it's Nevil's hashplant strain from the 80s. I believe Hemphill's been backcrossing it for the original traits. Looking forward to seeing how the hybrid comes out. Here's a look at mine.

Their Purple Hindu Kush is what it's called, a purple Afghan from the Kush mountains. It's not a 'Kush' in the modern sense of the word, which is a hybrid western type. The Purple Hindu Kush from the 90s was some of the best stuff I've ever smoked. Big purple nugs that tasted like sweet hash with instant expando smoke that crushed your lungs. Went for $350 an ounce and was worth it. The M10 is the same as Afghan #1, it's suppose to be the real deal. Here's a look at my biggest one.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned afghan 90 from RSC
Based on your experience would you classify Afghan90 as a pure indica? Just curious considering most of their gear seems to be a mix of sativas and indicas. Im definitely more of a sativa enthusiast but I haven't had the opportunity to grow/smoke a pure indica yet. Ive heard its a very relaxing and social experience without the couchlock of all these hybrids. I was already eyeing the Mazar Sharif but it too seems to be a sativa/indica mix

The Afghaan 90 from RSC is from Amsterdam seed stock, so could likely be. I ran them a few times and they were true to the description on the site. One was a 8 week solid squat indica, good solid size buds, nice earthy and hashy flavors. The high was mellow, relaxing, and anxiety free. The second ran 10 weeks for the best high, thinner buds and leaves, more stretch, very sharp pine/skunk smells with a nice floral undertone. The high was great, a lot more cerebral than the other pheno, but incredibly strong too. I got a thread with them in it somewhere, I think...

Currently running Baabo Qo Selections’ Sholgar and Rustam Kush (same collector) outdoors at 42 degrees North. Popped 5 of each on April 1, and went 4 for 5 on the Sholgar and 5 for 5 on the Rustam Kush. Transplanted outdoors three weeks ago. Plants are vigorous and so far 2 Sholgar and 3 Rustam Kush look to be females. The real test will be how they fare during the wet falls we’ve been having in recent years. Check out the massive leaves on Rustam Kush 4!

The old afghani lines can many times be actually hash cultivars, not proper landraces – so some lines have nld traits too around N Afghanistan. The Maple Leaf-Afghani Nevil used was like that.

Modern lines like WOS AfghanKush are also a bld/nld hybrids. I’d imagine there’s alot of feral cannabis in N. Afghanistan - pockets of hybrids and what-not all over the place living in the wild

Monkey Balls (Deep Chunk) in veg. Popped 2x packs of Monkey Balls. Most phenos produced dark purple flower. The one below had a blue tinge to it that stood out, with less musky terps to it. The one green pheno was the strongest one and smoked very similar to an OG Kush, with very similar profile, taste, and high.

blue-ish pheno here at 53days flower. Just popped some f2s of this from this one.
