find an old military diesel generator that can be easily converted to bio diesel, I know the numbers running a normal gas generator are much higher than just paying for power...I'd do a 40 lighter where I am if I could have it off the grid lol

if you're going to get a generator you may as well get something 70KW and up. The price point when getting a used one isn't that much different between a 40 and a 70 but the performance and fuel efficiency and load capacity sure is.
They just raid you up here in Humboldt if you're on CARE now...they swept that up a little bit ago. There's no way houses can afford annual electric bills that would put them out of the poverty classification for CARE.
Bio diesel isn't any cheaper because you have to invest time in equipment and materials and have enough waste oil to make enough bio diesel to run your grow...buying biodiesel costs bout the same as regular D..the real way to get D for cheap is to get a fuel tank with containment and get a 1000+ gallon delivery. You'll be surprised at how much lower the price is when you buy half a tanker truck of fuel.

It has to be dirt cheap, no way they are trucking in potting soil, or using expensive fertilizer/manures/guanos. I imagine they plow a field, possibly add some sort of local manure, add a few 10,000 seeds and some water. Then have dirt cheap labor process the entire plant into hash.
The giant hydro companies from Canada capable of selling at 15 bucks an ounce are bad enough, but third world countries capable of selling a gram of hash for pennies would be pretty destructive to the current market. My father told me in the 60-70s growing up in LA, they didn't even smoke flowers, only imported hash. He said they would sort of make fun/joke on the guys smoking buds because they were so weak.

fwiw I've got some fam that processes their own biodiesel, there really isn't a whole lot to it, heat, lye, filters...they get more oil than they can even process from a local Chinese food takeout spot for free, these places typically have to pay a company to come in and take away their old oil...besides that converting your equipment to run biodiesel doesn't stop you from running #2 or red dye, if you could supplement even 30% of your fuel consumption with something produced at a cost of pennies on the dollar than ultimately your cost of production falls and thus margins increase...simple business, lower overhead = more profits. the average cost per gallon of self refined biodiesel is $.80-1.25 depending on whether or not you obtaining your oil for free or not. running a generator of that size would lend to a quicker return on initial investments for supplies. It may not be the most logical solution in a lot of instances but to completely discount the fact that self produced biodiesel costs roughly 25% of conventional diesel fuels seems counterproductive...but then again what do I know.

I'd rather just buy dyed fuel. Once your 2 gallons per hour is making 70,000 watts, the 7 dollars it took for that hour of run time makes the power really cheap.
I have more bills than I can support off 4-6kw , I wish it wasn't the case though.
I'm sure If I lived in an area where there was industry , 6kw would be a great supplement to a conventional income stream

I never signed up for CARE, something about it bothered me made me wonder.
Later (around 2007) it was said that Federal money was behind CARE< so they could go after growers. One of my compatriots swore it was safe and enrolled on the program, even though he was a property owner, etc.. I hope HE is safe. Haven't talked in a while.

What if you're just a really bad grower with a dozen+ lights who is scraping by even with CARE, and not really profiting? Without CARE the operation would be hemorrhaging money like crazy.
There are "growers" out there that barely made ends meet even with CARE when prices were $4k+, just scraped by for over/near a decade. Now, without legit work history or any credentials, they're probably feeling trapped because these generally lazy, unmotivated people without too many skills in work or life, don't have any other opportunities besides minimum wage entry-level jobs (like fast food, etc). They thought this stuff would last forever, took their time or never bothered to improve, and now the walls are closing in and there isn't enough time to run.
I know plenty of these types.

What the hell is CARE?
At least when I was there, the city of Los Angeles had a different power company than the rest of the county and much cheaper, with only 2 tier rates IIRC with the top one being somewhere in the neighborhood of mid-high $0.20's (I'm thinking $0.26 was the number at the time). Made a huge difference, went from seeing $4k power bills to sub-$2k.
