Quote from Wikipedia:

MythBusters episode "Daddy Long-Legs" it was shown that the spider's fangs (0.25mm) could penetrate human skin (0.1mm) but that only a very mild burning feeling was felt for a few seconds.

Still true for the male black widow though, but I don't intend on finding out for sure...

I love them coons!

Back in the day I had a crazy friend that was a little stupid and would do anything just to get some attention.. anyways
We would always make traps to cage animals and we would catch all sorts of stuff like raccoons and all that.
So one day my friend that is crazy sees a raccoon out in the open and there wasn't any way he could get away he was cornered and my friend just jumped on him with a sweater and wrestled the bugger and caught him, caged him,and he was his pet for 5 or so years!

Damn...Thats nuts, a lot of coons are rabid...which makes them extremely aggressive...

I don't recommend anyone handle any of these wild animal like I do, its years of catching animals and getting bit (mainly by snakes) to learn to handle them...

Thanks for the K+ HerbGlaze!!

Well I should have edited my post...

The snapper I have pictured is a common snapper, The alligator snapper is MUCH uglier...

Alligator_snapping_turtle.jpg

Stock Photo:

There is so many species of turtles and I believe sub-species (Crosses).
Without a pic I would have to say if the shell was spikey at all (pictured) it was an alligator snapper.
If it had smoother, top of the shell like the one I caught, it was a Common Snapper. Which believe it or not (looks can be deceiving) the Common Snapper is much more aggressive.

In search of a "Soft Crab" or "Peeler"...

In search of a "Soft Crab" or "Peeler"...

3 scoops...3 crabs. Professional skills, its tougher to catch these little "guys" due to their size and speed...

Yah, Pinch This!!

Male "Apron"

Female "Apron" (More triangle shaped)

A little view of where I was crabbing...

Soft crabs (just shed their shells) are a delicacy for most people (the complete crab is eaten). Kind of rare to find, (the don't stay soft long) They come up to the shore line to utilize the current/waves to aid in shedding their shell. I only saw one Peeler, and he disappeared under those retaining rocks...Maybe next time...

LOL, Thanks man!! That really means a lot to me!!
I didn't want this thread to die off...neither does our wildlife...creatures everywhere....Key is to know what your looking for, then how to handle them...
Again, its about location, location, location. When you see this much wildlife, chances are your in a GREAT place for growing!!

:joint:Elite

BTW, I don't take pictures of deer because they are more common than dogs out here...I never really get tired of seeing them...Its just no longer amazing when you see dozens a day.

I'm loving this thread. If you can get some habitat shots, I would appreciate it.

Just a note: The widow on page 1 is a Northern Widow(Latrodectus variolus). They're slightly smaller and less venomous than a Southern Black Widow(L. Mactans). Northern Widows have a broken red hourglass, Blacks don't.

First Critter...Another Black snake...very pissed I interrupted his sun bath...

Just before he struck...and missed of course...:D

Evil Serpent, Offered me a Quince...I declined :D

Rough Green Snake...Not sure where the name comes from...First one I've ever seen (That I recall)

Pretty friendly once he realized we were no threat.

Nice little "guy"

View from the Island

View of the Island

My brother found a very nice arrow head...I was so jealous and happy for him at the same time...He almost stepped on (he stepped over) the black snake and didn't realize it...Later he just looks down and finds this...

Until next time...Storm was rolling in and sun was setting...Next time I'll find a larger Island with more time...
