Clay pebbles in first 2in of pot does wonders I always do this in Coco never had any problems Ever but each to their own i guess... I try find some pics out of what I mean
The way the aphids seem to damage the root is different than a standard rot/fungus as far as i can tell. They seem to enter a purgatory state where they continue to live, longer than with other issues, but dont do shit as far as uptake. The toxin injected into the root must have something to do with it.
I'm hoping your next round is free and clear. I think once they are had, it only makes sense to pre-treat with a systemic. What did you use? imid, spectra, orthene or what? I hit my veg up with the imid, hit my flower around week 2 with spectracide and then did an insecticidal soap feed followed a few days later with botanigard. Seems the damage has been done though as the infected plants have pretty much halted. Just happy to know what i am dealing with.
It might not be as as bad as perlite all throughout no doubt cuz obviously coco is way more root friendly and porous than perlite, but the clays is going to add a lot of weight to the pots etc...I suppose more of an annoyance cleaning, extra weight, chance of mildewing etc...I just hate those things.
Don't get me wrong you tryin to help out is very nice hope I did not come off 'rude'.
Did you use azamax? I am wondering if some of these oily pesticides might be a factor as well...I am convinced if you have root aphids the best thing is to completely annihilate them and start over...It seems they just destroy everything no matter what especially if things are 1-2 weeks before flower or in flowering I consider it now a complete loss. The harvest won't even pay for the electric...
I don't even want to bother taking pictures after aphids...hi there 40a, what type of grow system will you use, what type of lighting and do you have a set veg time in mind, that you will flip on? cheers oz
Grow System: CoCo with GH nutes @ 6/9 baby! Absolutely love it...
Lighting: 1k watt lights
Veg time: When the roots have conquered the solo cups they will be transplanted into 1 gallons or these pots I have that are slightly less than one gallons. In CoCo I get monster sized plants that you would get in 3 gal of a perfect organic soil mix in only 1 gal of medium.
I will not be rushing these so when the veg time is done, it is done. I am new to coco and this will be only my 3rd go around but even my first was absolutely stunning.
Here is some galadriel being transplanted. Look at the CoCo roots...
And shit just kept growing, and growing, and growing....
Got tired a couple of days later putting the finishing touches on the room and carin for the plants when a good song came on so I sat down and smoked a jay. Thought it looked cool.
Then I stood up to this hah
And here are some roots from my test grow for Karma on his White OG 2.0 I am currently doing (1 gal) from my second go around:
No i have not used AZAMAX, and i even have some on hand. I have tried a bunch of stuff. Insecticidal soap, Bayer complete, triacizide, and Botanigard. I have hit my flowering plants with all of the above minus the bayer as its systemic. Still have seen a few guys crawling around the pot a few days later. I am only confident in starting with unaffected cuts and inoculating them with imidacloprid in one form or another. I will also throw all of the above at the healthy plants as a precaution, but systemics seem like the best choice for these beasts.
40 what have you used to annihilate them?
Do you guys hand water?
Yea I have found the white pots pictured above to be far superior to any round pot. The roots grow straight down and up where needed with amazing mass.
I've also been wondering if there's any correlation between Brand of coco and root aphid infestation. I use Canna. Would everyone who has had the problem in coco, please respond with the brands of coco you've used when you had the problem. Thanks. -granger
