When i was hiking to the spot to grab the arrow i was literally looking in every tree on the walk there to see if there broke branches or any sign of a tree stand, i was wondering what the height a normal tree stand gets placed and is there a size tree a hunter would rather prefer to place the stands in or maybe a type of tree they look for?

tree stands are up around 30 ft and in trees big enough to support em... usually located by game trail, field or watering hole...if theres active hunting there I wouldn't plant there..as a hunter i do a lot of scouting and will find your trail just like an animals ...yeehaw

Find another spot...

Even though there is no hunting in the park (you mentioned this)...if People are poaching there...then the spot isn't safe.

Seems poachers and growers both perfer out of the way places to conduct their Biz.

Those arrows are expensive defo not a warning, if a hunter spotted game near your grow they will be back, I have been on enough hunting trips not spotting any game in the area for days, I would move on ain't worth the risk

I am not a hunter, but I know turkey hunting is in May? Does it start again? Personally I would find another spot to use as my "money spot" but I would still throw out a bunch of clones in that spot and come back to harvest them at the end (I grow one really tiny clone of the same strain in a spot close to my house so I know when the ones in the bush will be ready by looking at the one close by)

I always learned that the first year you use a spot to treat it more like a "test" You already hauled in a bunch of soil from the sounds of it so obviously use those holes but the first year I use a spot I might haul in one bale of pro mix or some other light mix to haul in, mix it with the native soil and throw a bunch of clones or confirmed fem seedlings out with some time release fertz and water polymer crystals. If they are their to harvest at the end, blow the spot up the next year. I refuse to put shit loads of my time, money and risk my freedom to use a spot that I would be unsure of like that.

Think about it bro, if you use that spot, are you ever going to be comfterable about it? I would be fucking paranoid the whole time...

I think I need to seriously consider a few guerilla plots this year...nothing to lose but plants right?

it's been there awhile.
see how the dirt cakes in the screws on the tip. that isn't recent.
last years miss...but indicative of the presence of game.
those trees could have deflected that arrow and it could have been loosed from any direction, meaning lost!
I've lost arrows in thick brush and even when I thought I knew where they landed I didn't find them.
arrows can go hundreds of yards...just sayin'

Looks like it's from last fall's hunting season. Hunters will be back there this fall and if you have plants there, the smell will give them away. Sucks to say but I don't think I'd use the spot. Or stick a couple in and if they do make it, it's a bonus and a test for next year.

if their poaching they will see you before you see them ..you better be good at covering your tracks ,,,but the smell in the end will give it away if they even get close come harvest time....yeehaw

figure out how they are getting in...

scout the area better than them

don't leave your own trail

harvest two weeks before archery season IF possible

a poacher won't probably call the authorities

You sure state land is illegal to hunt there?

If you have the cojenes...buy some arrows and meet the guy...tell him you want to share the area...bribe him :)

A few questions -

How visible are your recently-filled holes?

Have you seen any tracks or signs of hunters ON the patch?

It could have been shot from a distance, and I'm guessing he would've picked it up if he knew where it was. That looks like an expensive arrow (but what do I know, I don't hunt lol). If you don't have the extra loot for a game camera, leave a $10 bill or a bag of inexpensive jewelry at the end of the leg that leads to your patch. If someone visits, you'll know because that shit will be gone. I usually leave one of these at each patch I don't have a game camera at, deer won't likely pick up a bag of jewelry and run away with it. The money is trickier to make look natural, you'd have to pin it down with a rock to keep it from blowing away or something. Wipe your prints from anything you leave there, unless you're planting a low number of plants because in this case Leo will simply uproot them and be on his way...

Hope this helps!

And use the spot unless you see any tell tale signs of a serious threat. I would throw my least favorite plants there and see what happens. The worst thing is that they're ripped or compromised by Leo, you should be in the clear unless you're caught red-handed (watering/harvesting). Otherwise, you can just say you stumbled upon them. As long as nothing incriminating is in your pack, of course. Be smart, stay safe and if you play your cards right you may be able to harvest a very nice crop from this spot still. Stay optimistic!

I doubt someone would leave a new arrow if they knew where it landed. Even as a warning (could have left a ribbon tied to a branch). Chances are it's lost. But that doesn't mean that someone might not come wandering around the area in the future.

But that is just my opinion.

I completely agree with u, i def think i just should have set up this spot for more of a "test". I like the idea about throwing clones out there just as a tester this year we might try it out. Trail cams are going up on the spot soon and then from from the data we gather we might use the spot or abandon it, we r just trying to figure out the best course of action for hiding the cams so we are able to get decent pics while remaining unnoticed. I was told that turkey hunting goes till June i think i could be wrong tho. Honestly, ill be paranoid about all my spots now more then i have ever been.

Our holes are about 3ft deep and are roughly 1.5ft x 1.5ft wide. Now they r filled up 3/4 way with supersoil. At standing level its difficult to see the holes because they were dug on like a mesa built outta sand so until your like a foot or 2 away they r difficult to see. We almost tripped into a couple of them while digging all of them. Now if i was in a tree stand i would think they would be easier to spot. We did find a two small animal bones on the mesa looked to be leg bones of something small ill grab a pic of it when we go to set up the cams later. I have a couple of friends who bow hunt so i was asking them about losing arrows in the woods and they said its very common for an arrow to ricochet and go outta sight and to lose an arrow. They also said they never leave arrows behind unless they are unable to find them due to the factor is that they actually can get quite expensive. In another thread of yours u mentioned leaving something behind and to see if its disappears. We actually are going to get a cheap machete and drop it out there and see if that disappears. We were thinking of doing 10 plants at that spot. Is that a low number?

that seems like a high number to me,but to others it can be a low number depending on how many plants in total u are running this year. i myself am doing 22 plants and i only put 1-3 per plot. i have a total of 9 plots this year. i honestly do not think someone left a arrow there to mark the spot as others has said arrows cost a pretty penny. if it was my spot and this is the first year growing in this spot then i would do no more then 3 plants that way if u get them by Awesome if the hunters or rippers find them then u will not be out all that much. gl

I've had someone leave me an arrow stuck in the ground before. It was an hunting arrow and it was straight up and down, an obvious warning I was on someone else's turf.
That arrow looks lost.

All good advices on moving the plants..

I would guess that if the poachers are breaking the law and find signs of people they will move on. Maybe leave a couple things laying around from where you think the arrow was shot from. That is where they will go next time. An empty pop can that is not old and weathered would make him move on.

If you are out there be prepared to answer for it. Do you look like a guy that grows weed in the wood or are do you look like a photographer or backpacker? Part of the guerrilla plan is to have an apparently legit reason to be in a remote area when you encounter someone. By answer I mean you will be looking at them and they are you. You guys will be figuring things out about each other without ever asking.
