What is everyone spending of ELECTRICITY $$$

Hehe, this is one of my specialties bro, power!

Check out coolerado.com, they have a 5-ton AC that only draws 600 watts, it costs 5 grand, but what ever!

Geothermal cooling is huge. My next house (built on a hill with a 2-3K square foot basement) will use geo cooling. Basically, picture a 4' diameter pipe running 20 feet underground, about 100 feet out from your house, up to a vent cap. Suck air in through a big fan, and it will ALWAYS be cool air, year round, and hardly any power except the fan. Doubles as an escape tunnel too.

Yeah solar + hydro plus some batteries, you'd be off-grid in no time. Big diesel genny needed for a big indoor op, but that goes with the territory. Would be nice if we could have cheap at-home water catalyzing so we could generate hydrogen on demand too, but that won't be any time soon.

Brilliant!! :friends:

The prices are actually coming way down for this technolodgy plus you can get tax credits for many systems out there. It is deffinatley something I am going to do. Not so much because I worry about my electric bill (only run a 600) but because I want to make a change in the way I am impacting this earth. Might be a small impact with just me, but if we all start getting together on things it can make a huge difference.

You might like to examine the process used to bring you the materials for going off grid. In the early days of solar it took more energy to produce a panel that the panel would ever produce in its lifetime. Rather than being 'green' it was the opposite. Solar panels are still not very good on net impact to the environment though they're better than they used to be. But think about it, if they use enough fossil fuels to produce you're green technology you're spending your money for nothing more than feel good purposes.

Well, your house will use power, and your bill depends on which PG&E plan you're on, regular is E-1 (google for rate charts) and time of use meter is E-6, and the aforementioned CARE program drops your bill by about 70% too. With a 3BR house, and 8KW, and no fancy plans, your bill would be around $1800 a month, give or take a few hundred bucks.

One of these might reduce your eventual cost for energy.

If you're running serious wattage California might be cheaper than most other states all told if you're able to run the CARE program, it seems.

Wow, I'm running 600w hps and a 400w hps + fans in one room, and 12 t8's in the other, whole house air, a 1700 watt surround system, a 50" plasma, a tanning bed and a hot tub, not to mention the 20 lights on in the house and fridge and all that and I'm under $250 every month!

6 cents a KW, all day for everybody here in the South!

2000 watts = $120 a month

ToughGirl: can i come live with you? hot tubs and 50 inch plasma... you are living right!

will try a funny. so bare with us..

we co-op (kind of like hippies, but differ), so whoever is the lasiest worker that day has to peddle the bike to run the lights the next day.

also thought about quad flower rooms and using some solar to run the other while on... technology just not there yet....

edit: why is this is the Medical forum ? mod's maybe move it?

We have one local boy walking the donkey around in a circle turning the generator..

Direct conversion of green to electrical with compost to spare.

Oh just a heads up.. these smart meters can tell on us.. They make sure we pay higher rates if we use more than allowed under some conditions and certain times.. The Electric police are here...

upstate ny each 1000 = about 120 dollars

downstate quebec (30 miles from above house) each 1000 = 30 dollars

talk about fucked up...

even worse nyseg charges more for the more you use, meaning if you are running alot of wattage they charge more per unit
hydroquebec charges the same per unit no matter what you use

edit: also in ny the meter guys comes once a month no matter what
quebec they come once or twice a year i guess lol - i never see those fuckers
