What is everyone spending of ELECTRICITY $$$

heres some proof of my low ass electricity (shitty cell phone pic)... someone said it might go up if i use more of it for longer periods of time... im not too sure how that works out, and im not sure if my elec company works like that...

anyways, with the CARE program, wouldnt that make you nervous to fill out all that paperwork and then run ridiculous amounts of electricity? if you claim to have a low income, how could you possibly afford to run so much electricity?

My PG&E bill is always 80 bucks. No matter how much I use. I signed up for PG&E's "Balanced Payment Program. They averaged out my use using the first few months of my bill. So I started using just my T-5's. Signed up with BPP when my usage was low. They can only raise my rate once every 6 months or so. So far Ive only been raised about 5 bucks for adding my 600 watt.

If you small guys dont use much...I would look into the Balanced payment program from PG&E

I've been on CARE for years, as have several of my friends, no questions, no worries. They call me once a year and ask if they can come give me tips on replacing leaky windows, I tell them I rent and they go away. As long as you pay your bill on time (whatever that bill may be!) they just don't seem to give a damn.

Others have told me that PG&E knows exactly what we're doing, but they don't call the cops on us unless we're stealing power, or they get a court order from a judge.

3k per month no CARE and proud of it... im not going to take my bill and make others pay it... no offense, but if you are under the CARE program because you don't "legally" make enought money to pay for your electricity, you are making others pay your bill...Where do you all think all those discounts are going... I could have gotten on the CARE program... but ummm... i can afford my bills, just like most of you. I have friends that are on the CARE program and all they do9 is laugh about how much they are saving.. well lets put this into reality check.. there is NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH! someone is paying for your electiricity, even if its not you....I can understand and even support a broke (lets not forget care is for people with income issues!!) patient getting on the care program, but NOT A SUCCESSFUL GROWER.... sheesh.

Hash Man, I appreciate your input, but I have to ask you, do you think PG&E is a non-profit company? Or that they get huge government subsidies to cover the whopping losses they have from selling power at a premium? All of us are in a unique situation, I'm sure.

If I had to pay $3K a month, I would not be able to afford to grow medicine for my patients at reasonable prices. Especially if you have a run like my last one that only gave me 2.5#! Doesn't even cover my costs.

lazyman. i hate pg&e... and upon your last statement, i seriously thought about joining care... lol kind of... but I am not going to, and truth be told, i have had shitty yields b4 in the past few years, and you are right, sometimes its not enough to even cover your bills... although in the eyes of law enforment we would look like kiingpins. i guess we all have to do what we have to do... Im saving for solar power right now. I hear in 2 years they will raise the electricity rates double on us again... so im feeling like alternate energy is the way to go... but im not trying to hijack your thread and make it an alternate energy argument... I guess if your saving off of the care program, then I hope you need to use it..and if not, then thank me later for paying a very very very small portion of your bill :D...

i was gonna say dont forge tto factor in the fees and surcharges. with them i pay like 18 or 19 cents per kwh here.
although my actual "rate" is only like 9cents or 10 or something.

divide the monthly bill amount by the KWH = the real cost per KWH -- like his highness:2cents: I pay .18 cents per..

Yeah, i wish I didn't need to, but I do, so there! lol ;)

Agreed on alternative energy man, although I'd much prefer to have a year-round stream, as I'm told water power is much more efficient than solar, and WAY more than wind. Plus you can re-use the water for cooling AC's, CO2 generators, hoods, etc, and 20 feet downstream that hot water is back to normal. :joint:

damn, thats not bad... maybe when i buy some real property someday I will make a streamn on the property a must have. i guess the only was to make sure we are protected from rising costs of energy is to have maybe a 2 fold approach like hydro and solar, or wind and solar.... or hope that care stays around when energy soars. I never thought abot the value of a stream on the property tho....makes rons of sense if u ask me... Have you researched straw bale houses? they are supposed to be way more energy efficient... As energy rises, growerrs will either find ways to get bigger yields, steal power, or convert to "green growing". Im going green and will most likely nix ithe indoor for a top of the line greenhouse. Its only 34k for a fully functional "blackoutable"greenhouse that runs itself on regular power(solar panels are easy to intall and an expense that pays for itself) and will provide much more meds than you would ever need.. year round... is on the market now. now you combine that with a stream on the property, i think you would be self sufficient and may even be able to sell power back to te power companies, or store it in a large battery for later use.

Hehe, this is one of my specialties bro, power!

Check out coolerado.com, they have a 5-ton AC that only draws 600 watts, it costs 5 grand, but what ever!

Geothermal cooling is huge. My next house (built on a hill with a 2-3K square foot basement) will use geo cooling. Basically, picture a 4' diameter pipe running 20 feet underground, about 100 feet out from your house, up to a vent cap. Suck air in through a big fan, and it will ALWAYS be cool air, year round, and hardly any power except the fan. Doubles as an escape tunnel too.

Yeah solar + hydro plus some batteries, you'd be off-grid in no time. Big diesel genny needed for a big indoor op, but that goes with the territory. Would be nice if we could have cheap at-home water catalyzing so we could generate hydrogen on demand too, but that won't be any time soon.

Paid $331.60 last month in power for 4907kwh which works out to 6.75cents/kwh. With $24.48 for water its not too bad for running a ten lighter!

I have a friend in humboldt on CARE and its the only reason his bill isn't over a 1000. But i have to agree with Hash Man if your running a profitable grow... pay your damn bills this welfare nation we live in is going to run out of money eventually.

Cheaper property, cheaper rent, cheaper electricity... same quality herb gotta love Colorado!

haha that's genius! i have a friend who does solar/wind for a local company ill have to ask him if he has heard of that.

I would like to hear if anyone in this community uses renewable energy, off the grid.

I really think our community could give a big boost towards this Green Energy economy, if we made it known there is a demand for personal residence green solutions.

Home Power Systems ~ Electricity from the Sun, Wind and Water
Pipe sizing --- Units of measure --- Fuel costs --- Weir tables --- Power calculations

btw, has anyone else noticed the TV commercials for British Petroleum lately? You know, BP
Recently I've noticed they promote their logo, BP followed with the phrase "Beyond Petroleum"

The prices are actually coming way down for this technolodgy plus you can get tax credits for many systems out there. It is deffinatley something I am going to do. Not so much because I worry about my electric bill (only run a 600) but because I want to make a change in the way I am impacting this earth. Might be a small impact with just me, but if we all start getting together on things it can make a huge difference.
