i went w/ grow/smoke reports...that seems to me to be the most un-biased way....other than first hand experience

i thought about my friends opinions, but they think that everything kicks ass

1 Grow/smoke reports
2 Parental Lineage

For me, as a really poor person, it is $$$ first and foremost. The second is reports from actual users/growers. Third is size - I grow in very confined area.

I'd love to try some exotic strains, but when I look at DJShorts Blue line, I can get 50 - 100 seeds of other well rated weed (and multiple strains) for the same or less money. I've only ever spent low $ on seeds - but I will research the hell outta that purchase before parting w/ my money. I've pretty much stuck to Nirvana, Mandala and the local defunct head shoppe for my beans.

If money wasn't a consideration, then I'd go nuts, but with small paycheck, mortgage, family, etc., I have to prioritize. :badday:

Good thread, tho' - thanks for asking.

What influances? Its more like "who" influances. If it were up to me I'd have 1 of each. My wife, " Keep it under $50 Bub."

Friends opinions, could be ICmag friends...
Or anyone whom you Trust their opinion...

:yeahthats

I'm a sucker for trends and hypes, but if it's not doccumented on IC by a senior grower then I wont buy it.

I think strain reports and info from other growers is the best indicator. I have bought seeds based on lineage which was reef's Odin's Hammer (alcapulco gold x kodiak gold) and it was by far the worst strain I have ever grown (including bagseed).

For me, it's smoke/grow reports and breeder.

Not all growers have the same growing skill and/or growing environment as breeders, so breeder's pics and descriptions are of little use...but if smoke and grow reports, from growers of many different skills and growing environments, reach a general consensous, then the strain is worth trying out...for me anyway...and the most important factor for me is potency-taste, smell, yield, flowering times, etc. are secondary factors...

Pedigree and parental stock are useless if the breeder does not know what he/she is doing and does a poor job of trait selection...

Strain recognition is of little value to me...I personally know one old time grower who has nothing but Skunk#1 in his garden, yet, it is some of the most potent weed I have smoked and rivals some of the "elite" strains...

And since I consider everyone in these forums a friend, their opinions and "word of mouth" comes from their grow and smoke reports...

Well that my $.02 anyway...

hey grat3ful hows it goin buddy? i've bought alot of seeds and have tried quite a few strains but never enough lol....i'll break down my opinion on all the subjects to give you an idea from my experience from a purchasers point of view.

breeders photos- this is probably the last thing i go by, with the right photo you can make any strain look awesome, and i've noticed that 1 pic of that strain is probably the best photo out of a big selection the breeder uses to sell their strain, which for the breeder is smart to do but for the buyer he expects all his plants to look like that pic.

breeders description- i use this as a guide just to get an idea of what the strain can be, ofcourse a breeder is gonna think his gear is bomb, no breeder is gonna say anything bad about their strain, and sometimes they overhype it just because it's their creation.

breeders identity- this one i like, you can tell the good breeders from the bad breeders, if they consistently come out with great products over n over and have many people talking up their gear thats something you can't deny.

official test grow/smoke report thread- u gotta like that, if your seeing the grow right in front of your eyes ( especially the breeding parents ) you have a great idea of what your getting.....smoke reports are also handy, especially if they aren't from the breeder themselves but an unbiased report.

pedigree/parent stock- i'd like for more breeders to tell more about the parent stock, not just this cross is AA x BB but tell more about the quality and reason behind the selections, history, growth structure, smell, taste, potency, ect.

strain name recognition- this is a big one for me, i like the fact that certain strain almost always get a thumbs up sensi star, black domina, g13, c99, ect, makes you feel like if almost everyone likes these strains they have to be good...safe buy.

word of mouth/friends/icmag - my biggest factor before buying, nothing better then hearing and seeing honest reports from unbiased people that want the best herbs they can buy/find....if i'm interested in a strain from a breeders description or pics but do a search and see nothing but bad reports i'm not buying it...ever, but if i have an eye on a strain and do a search and see 90% of people loving it then i feel pretty safe on buying that gear, there's always a few people that didn't like a certain strain for whatever reason.

with all that being said i've went by pics and breeders descriptions before and have been burned, but by doing research, watching, and listening to a few respected members at icmag i feel at ease with picking a strain i want to try next. so my vote definatly goes for word of mouth/friends/icmag.

It is smoke reports and the breeder that matter to me.I mean overall effect of the finished product is the most important part. Who created the strain can affect my decision sometimes. For example : How many different breeders have the strain Bubblegum, but I'de go with Serious's bubblegum any day, only because everything I've ever tried from that guy is amazing and when you grow his wares you can just tell all the time and effort put into it to make it the best out there. Don't get me wrong though, I have respect for all breeders , they pour there hearts into their projects for no other reason but to make us happy, and for that I thank you. :respect:

For me it is the grow and smoke reports here at Cannagraphic. What a wonderful source of unbiased information we have here. We should cherrish this! Before I found this site I relied upon the sellers description and images, Dr. Duck.

.....
what also is not being discussed here is, How many growers don't do smoke reports because they are afraid it will make them look like a kiss ass to the breeder?

That they are worried about what their internet friends will think of them, will they give'em a hard time for being a satisfied customer?... I think it happens more often than not and the real losers are the customer's who don't get that information...

Ms. Gr3atful your quote "what also is not being discussed here is, How many growers don't do smoke reports" I can't imagine? Thousands, tens of thousands, so we all miss out on that valuable information. It wouldn't take them any time at all to post just a little ditty? Dr. Duck.
