it sounds like there must be more than one strain going by the name vietnam black, Rolanterroy (rev) from magick garden seeds says that his vietnam black that is used in the Black Forrest strain in a Jungle Landrace, and he goes on to say that landrace is not a term that he uses lightly. I beleive his cousin lives in vietnam and collects the seeds for him from deep in the jungle. the Black Forrest flowering time is listed as 16 weeks +

exactly, I dont know where they got that 9 weeks for flowering, black vietnamese I grew were all jungle sativas with flowering time 16 weeks +

Buddy i know this is an ancient post but mad respect on those beautiful buds. How did the smoke turn out for you? I ordered black forrest seeds a few days ago and I think I'll give these a go early next year. Great job on these

Originally a cross of a female from southern Vietnam/Saigon, it has been crossed with a male northern Vietnam/China. Originating from Vietnamese genetics brought back to North America in 77, she's an extremely potent exotic sativa.

Not recommended for medical users: usually resulting in shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, raised blood pressure, leans towards paranoia. Her sweet tropical ripe mango scent and sickly sweet taste will speak for itself. Vigorous strong brancher and top heavy, support recommended.

A very heavy yield compensates for a longer flowering period.

The source was a Canadian grower who's handle was Anon. I've seen people falsely attribute the strain to Dutch Flowers.

I got to know Anon very well and worked with him for 2 years trying to recreate the original mother after she was lost in a fire.

The Vietnamese mother Anon used went 16 weeks +
The China Black was an 8 week indica dominant strain

The seeds produced a very unstable hybrid that went from 9 weeks to 16 weeks, with the potency ranging from crap to unfreaking believable. Hermies were also reported a by a few growers.

My experience:
I found a 14 week absolute killer female, strongest Sativa I ever had by a mile. I sent cuttings to Anon he grew her out and told me she was exactly like mom. He had already lost the mother in a fire by this time and decided to use my female to try and recreate the lost mother.

We grew out males from the remaining seed stock and spent years testing progeny of the males to find suitable male. Eventually I had to shut down and we lost contact.

Potency of any strain is subjective. I had a group of heavy smoking non grower friends that i used to test out strains on. Vietnamese Black was one of the only 2 strains I ever had that universally wrecked everyone that smoked it. I watched 5 guys take just 2 hits before they spent the next 3 hrs in a daze. It seemingly had no ceiling.

Any Vietnamese Black available since 2002 is most likely not from the limited auction seeds offered by Anon.
