Incredible. The Allman Bros, at the Orpheum, doing Van the Man's 'Into the Mystic,' with Warren Haynes on guitar and sweet, sweet vocals.

Moving, for those who remember a thumb in the air, life wide-open, full-throttle, and no sense that it might ever end.

Leaving Lower Michigan in 1976, under duress.

Gave most of my stuff away, all of my instruments, but for my harmonica, packed my stuff, and went to find an old hermit up north, whom I'd read about.

This tune played numerous times at the going away gathering at a friend's home in the ghetto in downtown Grand Rapids.

Coming in from London from over the Pole
Flying in a big airliner
Chickens flying everywhere around the plane
Could we ever feel much finer?

Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please
Mister Customs Man

There's a guy with a ticket to Mexico
No, he couldn't look much stranger
Walking in the hall with his things and all
Smiling, said he was the Lone Ranger

Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please
Mister Customs Man

Hip woman walking on a moving floor
Tripping on the escalator
There's a man in the line and she's blowing his mind
Thinking that he's already made her

Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please
Mister Customs Man

Carlos and a classic instrumental tune that, without any words, ‘says’ everything to be ‘said’ about overcoming the troughs and crests of life.

One of the most soulful human beings I’ve ever had the privilege to see live. Every bit the amazing person today as he was 50 years ago. Hope he lives a long time.
