Apple cider, 100% from fermentation (brut), not the shitty ones that are mostly sweetened juice.

Oskar Blue's Brewing from Longmont, Colorado; 'Old Chub,' Scot ale @ 8% abv. Then changing oil on one vehicle, cleaning out the propane smoker to smoke a pork roast tomorrow morning, starting early, airing up tires on another vehicle, .... and.. what ever chores I haven't become too tired to complete.

Don't think the Old Chub is going to help speed up progress, but it makes the effort less painful...

preparing for a blind wine-tasting with the neighbors:
14 hands cab vs. columbia crest GE cab-
both decent $9-10 wines, usually on sale
at those prices at rite aid.

Lagunitas 'Wilco Tango Foxtrot' "A Jobless Recovery Ale" (A brown 8.1% abv ale).

I like the Lagunitas Imperial Stout. It is a very nice, smooth stout, for being 9.9%. It doesn't -taste- like many other higher abv beers, but many of their other beers, including the 22 oz. I just cracked open of the Wilcco Tango Foxtrot, taste like they stopped barely short of an IPA.

I don't mind the occasional IPA. I don't drink them as often as I used to, but every now and again...

But I've now tried several 'seasonal releases' from Lagunitas, other than the favored Imperial Stout, and find that whether the Little Sumpthin', the Lucky 13, or many others, they nearly all taste identical.. Like an IPA with heightened amounts of malt.

From now on, I suspect if I buy Lagunitas, it'll strictly be the Imperial Stout.

Their Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale is one of my absolute favorites.

I am a diagnosed hop head, that much is true.

But with that said...

Lagunitas I love you.

I'd noted you're an IPA guy, Mustard.

I used to drink a fair bit of New Belgium's Ranger and another Imperial IPA they made 3-5 years ago. I still occasionally drink a Sockeye Red by Midnight Sun Brewing, out of Anchorage, Ak; one of those IPAs that you'd swear could be properly served for breakfast, as it damned near tastes like grapefruit juice. The hops are -that- citrusy.

But I moved away from IPAs for a time now, having always been a stout and Scot ale guy myself, at heart. I guess the fact that bagpipes make me weepy and long for revolution was a first indicator as to what my beer diet would eventually consist of. :)

I just wish Lagunitas wouldn't advertise a brown ale, and make it sound as though it might be an Irish or Scot ale, only to discover it's another IPA incognito.

If you were my neighbor, Mustard, then I might continue buying their products (aside from the Imperial Stout, which I -will- continue buying), as then, when I discovered I had simply brought home another IPA disguised as a brown or red ale, I could gift you the other 5 and know they'd gone to good use.

I would brew you what you want in return :D

I love Scotch ale too.

And the weather is getting perfect for darker beer.

I'm always excited for Great Divide's Hibernation Ale.

Never heard of the Hibernation Ale.

One of the breweries in the Interior makes a variety of winter stouts, including a '40 Below Stout,' which is in the 8% range, +/-. Others have been more of a 'come-and-go' nature, as limited releases. (*The 40 Below stout is on-tap at their place more than just the winter.. typically, unlike some of the others I've had by them; Silver Gulch Brewing in Fox, Alaska).

They took part in some sort of brewery community activity, involving breweries across the U.S., all making what I understood to be the same stout recipe. They called it '50-State Stout.' I thought it was incredible, but it was a one-time thing...

I haven't brewed beer in over 22 years now. All of my fermentation and decanting/settling buckets got used for salmon brine for smoking fish, and once they go that way... well... they never taste quite like beer again. And salmon-flavored beer, if it ever catches on at all, is a ways into the future I think.
