Met a guy in college that got his patent bought out. Part of the deal was that he could not patent or invent anything in that field ever again. So, he was back in college learning new stuff.
I invented a circuit that saved my company $4.5MM in the first year. However, since the company paid my salary while they put me through to an EE (without the Humanities), they owned anything I invented. Especially since I used their facilities to do it.

Fair enuf... they just bet on me and we both won.

Coaches like me I could run like the wind....we finished 2nd in state my senior year.....to the rest of the teaching stsff I was nothing more than a trouble making class clown.
Funny you mention running. Coach Woodie (of my senior prank infamy) hated me, like I said. But I was 6 foot tall and 141 pounds of lanky, and I had legs. I could run, but I've always hated running. Still do.
He gave me much grief during my senior year about everything - my long hair, the fact I wouldn't 'dress out' for PE, anything he could find to beat up on me about. But especially running. He wanted me to run, and I refused to put any effort into it. He badgered me so much about it that one day I ran a 58 second lap around the track (1/4 mile) just to show him I could. All that did was piss him off...but he left me alone afterwards about running.

He could have gotten more out of me had he been nicer.

I was afraid of my old man giving me grief had there been real trouble at school, so I had no intention of creating it. I cussed my dad for some time when I was younger because he was a very hard man, but ultimately he did me right. And he always loved us kids. That's KEY. My folks divorced when I was in my 30's. Mom went off the deep end, and that was hard, but I imagine I'd be a much different man today had they divorced when I was a youngster. I think dad kept my wilder side at bay at the time, to a large degree.

I didn't get REALLY stupid until after I got out of the military. lol

Walt, I fixed an issue with a fleet of vehicles that I was servicing. They had thousands of them throughout the country, and repeat phone convos with their 'engineers' got me nowhere.

The fix involved a 50 cent diode and 20 minutes work. Never got a word of thanks from anyone, though I did get to bank good until they fixed it some time later. F--k them arrogant college boys. lol

I made some money off them jerks.

Track was my identity in HS. I didn't have long legs like you either. I lived to run. There was no marijuana or booze in my life then. I wouldn't even drink a coke.

Today If I tried to run I would pop a quad or hamstring in a second.

One thing and this is the truth.......the older I get the faster I remember I was.....ha ha.

I tend to almost marvel at the things I did at 20, 30, 40, even 50 years old...that I can no longer do. I'm pushing 70, and walking down stairs can be difficult. Might fall.
