If I was more motivated, my garden pic for the day

would be a bare root prune in the middle of a big circle of home-made soil.

The soil sucks so I put down -

3 inches of leaves
2 inches of clay sand gravel
3 inches of leaves
2 inches of clay sand gravel
2 cubic feet of steer manure over the top.

With 4 foot long stakes to hold the wire fence to keep the deer off the baby prune tree.

I finally realized, if I want 20 fruit trees, I have to plant them.

Here's a few of my inside vegetable and ornamental gardens.

Aquaponics rocks for vegetative growth and fast growing greens. The last picture is of a pothos plant growing on top of an aquarium with it roots directly in water under a LED strip, you'll never see a pothos plant growing in dirt that healthy ! Looks like fake plants.

This is a flower that grows from a bulb, it has flowered 3 times since January and the last couple of times I pollinated it to see what happens... This thing has balls! Big green balls! Hulk would feel diminished standing next to these. Lol. Lately it's been in the basement under t5 and t8 fluos and it's been drinking aquarium water and getting kelp and liquid worm casting foliar sprayings.

The greenhouse/ plant store I go to have one just like it and it was planted in the same period. Mine is triple the size and nicer lush growth and theres gets a mixture of the t8 lights and natural sunlight from the glass ceilings. I'm telling you, veggies and ornamentals love the nitrates and nitrites and beneficial bacteria thats in aquarium water.

This is pothos with it's roots growing in an aquarium with a good LED strip light. You'll never see a pothos as healthy as this in dirt.. It's amazing, thicker leaves, healthier more lush growth and a much faster growth rate compared to my potted specimens and they all come from my the same donor plant.. LED + aquaponics = nice! It's the most eco renewable way of agriculture for the moment and compared to nature destroying mosanto/ synagri profits over environment slogan who are poisoning the planets drinking water and oceans along with the fauna who depend on their natural environments and the bees and beneficial insects that play a big role in this self sustaining eco system. Water usage is incredibly efficient as everything is recirculated and the only losses being the plants drinking and a bit of evaporation. The water quality in these systems is absolutely pristine, no odours, no slime and much cleaner than an aquarium with a simple filter housing beneficial bacteria. The plants really play a big role in natural water filtration.

This is the crew, the two biggest ones are Goldie and Arnold! My kids named them lol the other ones are nameless. Had goldie since 2011.

Got the garden cleaned up and just made a large batch of soil today. I will probably plant cold weather crops in a few weeks and the rest of the veggies may 31st.

That’s an amaryllis, and those are the seed pods (you said you pollinated). I’ve grown and worked with amaryllis for a long time.

If you’re going to plant the seeds let them ripen on the plant. The pods will start to split when the seeds are ready. Remove the seeds and let them dry for a few days and plant, just barely covering with medium. Keep moist but not water logged. They’ll start to sprout in a few weeks.

The new plants/bulbs take 3 – 4 years before they will be mature enough to bloom. As for flowering the bulbs, they require a dry, cold (above freezing), dormant period for at least a couple months to trigger.

Here’s a flower I was working on years ago.

Nice little garden Mic, your plants look very healthy and lush.

Can someone give me some tips on growing corn? It's the one thing I can't get the hang of in my garden. I suspect I'm not using enough nitrogen during the early growth... I've read that top dressing is important as well. What should I use, chicken shit or blood meal?

Yes that's right buddy, it's an amaryllis flower, I didn't keep the descriptive tag and forgot what it was called.. Bought it in January at a Walmart, came in a box with a ceramic pot and the amaryllis bulb that was actually already growing in the box. It's growing fast and is a very rigorous plant.. It's been in the basement for about a month under LED and fluorescent and it's very healthy.. It's quite an interesting flower very unique.

I picked up 2 orchids this weekend, always wanted to try growing some of these beautiful delicate flowers. I put them under the LED lights and they seem to be happy for now.. I have to transplant them soon.

I really admire orchid growers, those plants are difficult to say the least. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the LED lamp. Cool, keep us posted!

Most orchids are not that hard to grow. I mean if you set them up with a good growing medium and proper placement regarding lighting needs, most of them will thrive with just water and seasonal nutrient doses.

Corn is best grown in ground that has never been worked in several years. Side dressing with blood meal at knee high works well, if you can afford it. Blood meal is just a byproduct of thecows we eat, of course, Yet they want 80 to120 a 50 sack. I have chickens and use that but also buy blood and feather meal this year. Have fun my friend!!
