Wanna Ask The Old Farts A Question?

I read on another forum OG in strain names was ocean grown to represent tropical climates. Someone else said it was original genetics though.

As far as OG, you guys are all right, it means all those different names. As far as OG Kush, your talking Ocean Grown. That term came from Southern California, near the Ocean. The term 420 came from Cali too

Ah well thanks, I didn't know that, I really only heard it used for OG Kush and at the time I heard it was just before OG the site went down, so I just assumed the name was a tribute to the site. I've heard of lots of other references for Cali grown marijuana but this is the first time I heard that OG came from Cali and means Ocean Grown. I figured that would be an odd reference because it makes it sound like it's grown using saltwater on some beach somewhere. The way you're saying it's used could really apply to any coastal state.

The Dog family, that OG Kush came from, originated from seeds that were found in weed aquired Santa Cruz at the deer amphitheater. I think thats the name. I spent many summers near there in the 60s-90s. The weed was probably grown in Colorado if I remember right. So the seeds were produced there.

Anyway, Here is an OG Kush. I just ran upstairs and snapped a couple pics. OG Kush in my hand, and LA Confidential behind it. The LA is an OG Kush/LA Afghani mix.

And here is the OG Kush in my hand again, and the Shrub behind it is Honeydew Headband. That is (We think) OG Kush/Sour Diesel/Master Kush. I keep mothers of these, and I also have all of them in full bloom right now. I have a few bud pics for you Bro.

Maybe none. It was a designation. Stating that it wasnt grown in the mountains of Southern California, It was grown along the coast.

Its a pain in the ass to grow. The stems are weak, buds heavy, the buds flopp all over. The smoke quality is something special though

Hey thanks for the words HempC

I would like to see some experimentation with early toppings - didn't want to do anything too drastic later on though

The headband - very nice - smooth clear cerebral, diesel-ish kushy taste, great smoke :canabis:

Nice, what is it like to smoke them? I haven't had the opportunity to ever sample either strain.

They both have an instant high. The Headband Has a lemon sugar cookie flavor with an earthy incence back bone. Clear clean high. Just the right amount of body high. The LA is similar, but maybe a sweeter rounder flavor, and a tiny bit more body high.. People are spellbound when they first try it. Real nice.

Sounds very nice, maybe some day I'll be fortunate enough to try some? :)

Hello, Is there a link or a place where we may hear more of the OverGrown story? Like who shut it down and why. If this is one of those questions I'm not suppose to ask, oh well..

Tom Hill was pretty well known on Overgrow.com from what Ive heard. You might ask him. He is sometimes slow to reply to PMs during outdoor grow season.

I remember people telling me how Tom jumped into Overgrow and told people that they could grow 10 pound plus plants. It was unheard of at the time, and people balked at him. Then he showed his hand. It was "read em and weep!" Thats where he initially earned his respect.

Well you could ask around, I'm sure I'm not the only one to come here from there. Although depending on who you ask you might get a story colored by their opinion. What I mean by that was when it happened the flood of people from there to here was so great that alot of people here got upset. The people that were here before OG went down were used to a certain way things were done and a majority of the folks coming here suddenly want this place to be more like what they felt OG was rather then appreciating the new home they were offered and respecting the routines and lifestyle of their hosts. This led to alot of negativity and animosity that some people still hold onto today almost 6 years later. Also because things happened suddenly paranoia was running wild and all sorts of crazy conspiracies came out.

Now aside from Tom and myself you could also talk to either Gypsy or Old Pink as they both were at OG as well. Old Pink was more or less the number two man in charge there next to the owner of Overgrow. Also KharmaGirl who is a moderator here was also a moderator over there. Another mod here JJScorpio was also over there but I think over there he was just a regular user.

As far as who was responsible for shuting OverGrow done it was the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). The owner of OverGrow, a guy who went by the handle "RC" also ran a business that was considered legal in Canada at one time, selling seeds much like Gypsy does with his store. Unfortunately the RCMP and the local government was swinging very conservative and in an unprescedented show of solidarity with the very conservative administration of George Bush in America, they suddenly decided RC's business wasn't legal anymore and took him down and took OG down along with his site for his business called Heaven's Stairway and another site called Cannabis World I believe was also on the same server and went down as well. That's essentially it. I'm sure people would be willing to throw in alot of details about what the people here online were thinking and saying but mostly that is irrelevent as it had nothing to do with why OverGrow went down but rather it was all about people's fears and their reactions to it.

Aloha Old Farts,

First of all thank you for the info on the Headband strain. Some good stuff I did not know. Also helps as I have a cut growing in the garden, thanks to....I can't say...

My question regards trifoliates. A few pages back I asked if they were all males, as the few I've seen all were. You told me they had an equal chance, male or female. You were right...but you already knew that.

Now I have two Jack Herer female trifoliates.

My question is this. If I was to find a trifoliate male, and cross it with one of the trifoliate girls, would this trait be passed on down to the offspring?

Is trifoliatism...yea, I just made that word up... a passable recesive trait, or an unpassable genetic defect? I currently have an undeclared trifoliate baby growing....would it be worth pushing it to declare, pray for a male, or is it a lost cause?

Thanks again.

Thank you this was just right. I won't be askin any mods, they serve a purpose I suppose...and I'm sure Mr Hill n Gypsy hav enough to do.

I can't answer you authoritatively as I'm no breeder but if both the male and female have a trait then it's very likely it will show up in the progeny of the parents. That is of course if "Trifoliatism" is indeed a trait that can be passed.

My experience with Trifoliates is limited, I've only had females but none of them seemed notiably different then non trifoliates of the same strain, maybe slightly more buds but as I recall slightly smaller too. So there may not be much point in persuing making a strain that mostly produces trifoliates. If there was a noticable benefit in doing so I would think alot of people would have done it by now.
