I emailed New Belgium Brewing co. recently to express my concerns regarding their distributor's lobbying organization spending hefty cash to fight Prop. 19; I thought you all would enjoy their response:

New Belgium Brewing Co. said:
Hello *****,
Thank you for contacting New Belgium Brewing regarding your concerns about the California Beer and Beverage Distributor’s (CBBD) stance on Proposition 19. I also want to let you know that you are not alone; my email inbox was filled this morning with 23 other folks sharing your concerns. This will sound odd, but you made me break a smile. Sure, New Belgium is a good sized brewery these days, yet we’re still driven by a similar kind of grassroots passion. All of us at New Belgium appreciate your candor and willingness to take action as well as the chance to address your concerns to the best of our business capabilities.

Like all alcoholic beverages sold in the state of California, we are required to have our beer distributed through licensed wholesalers, most of which are members of the CBBD. As a brewery, we are a non-voting, associate member. As such, until this morning, we were unaware of the CBBD’s planned contribution and political stance against Prop 19. Their political position on this issue does not reflect our own. Our position is the straightforward fact that without our valued California distributors we would not be able to get you our beer and that is our sole reason for supporting the CBBD.

While there have been calls from both sides to enter this debate, we at New Belgium Brewing believe the California voters are the proper constituents to decide this measure. We have reached out to our California partners in distribution and at the CBBD to express our difference of opinion on this issue. We have also talked with our friends at Sierra Nevada Brewing and are following their lead of requesting the CBBD remove our company name from their associate member list.

Once again, we appreciate the opportunity to dialogue regarding these concerns. Craft brewers and craft beer drinkers share much common ground, and we are all made better through holding each other to the highest standards. Thanks again for your forthright feedback.

Sincerely,

Greg Owsley
Employee Owner
New Belgium Brewing Company

good to hear New Belgium.... I loves me some fat tire, mmm and skinny dip....and ranger....I love their beer...except the mothership, widmer's got em beat with the wheat

all speculation aside, pot needs to be legalized and the domino effect has got to start somewhere...worst thing about it is going to be the industrialization and large corporations getting their greedy little fingers into our pot of honey, thus driving out much of the smaller producers, like wal-mart. on that note I think this bill blows, and I'm willing to wait to see what comes up in 2012 before we end up getting phucked over. how can pot be legal if you can still lose your job for having thc in your urine? how can they stop arresting and citing people for pot, yet not release any prisoners that are incarcerated for pot only crimes? wouldn't that in itself save our state millions? it's a tough pill to swallow either way...it might just come down to eeiny meeny miny mo.

great stuff on new belgium/fat tire... it sucks to be the little guy underneath some asshole like the CBBD. Good to know they're cool peeps. I went to Tour De Fat a couple years ago, which is their makeshift-looking travelling-carnival bicycle-punk music&beer fest/event. Something about that combo made me think they would be prop 19 supporters...

We see through you man...You cant even pull of a decent troll dagnabit. Good thing you got nut riders to help reinforce your one sided opinion. You SHOULD make a macro so you can spew your broken record of crap more effortlessly.

We know there isn't another bill to vote on, but there could, can, and will be. Good to know you want to ruin this because you have no patients or vision. Same with your pals, I really hope this is not what our state voter pool consist of... Desperate straw grasper biting it up hook line and sinker.

The CIA is the number one importer of hard drugs. Our soldiers are protecting the poppy fields in afganistan. Do you believe that? If that is true then anything can be true. So to say that Philip Morris, or any other company would not get involved in this is nieve. The Government, and big business are your friend. They only want the best for you. :)Dagnabit this has turned into your personal blog. You have your mind made up. Others don't, and rightfully so. I know there is a bill for 2012 that is less restrictive. You sit here and speculate, and call bullshit on everything. While people like me have a rough draft of a bill for 2012 sitting in my lap that I am putting my suggestions on. It is not for your State, but these same people will be the ones that will have a "good" bill for your state in 2012. Unless you are a part of the legalization movement then you really do not know what the fuck you are talking about. Have you helped to lobby? Do you help with wording on drafts of initiatives, and legislation? Do you actively help to get laws changed in others ways then turning threads on a forum into your personal blog?If so then you can continue with this personal blog. If not you do not have the right to keep calling bullshit. I do wish that I could share what I know, but then everyone would know who I am. Hell you wouldn't believe it anyway. Continue blogging dagnabit.:)

P.S. Dagnabit if you spent have of your day off of this blog, and out in the real world then I bet you could solely get this shitty bill passed. thank god you are in here. :)

I think operation infrared proved that the CIA was very aware of heroin being moved into the USA. There is also still cocaine being brought into the USA by the CIA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oszATUJ4IRE&feature=related It's questionable if the Taiwanese syndicate responsible for the Meth precursors are run by the CIA or if the CIA just takes a cut. Either way they have been proven to be involved. If you think that the CIA is out of the drug business you are gullible. Do a little reading on From the Wilderness if you want to learn some of the truth. It's run by the whistle blower in the CIA selling crack scheme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t3pl5Wxgyg

That was my point. I said that they were the biggest hard drug importers.
