Some nice "cob cured" flowers I grew here a few years ago. I thought they came out great and I like the taste and hit. People looked at me like I was crazy and most refused to even take a hit. One guy told me that I ruined the flower, a young Colombian grower. He wasn't alive when there was primo export going out. No idea about fermentation or this type of curing. I rarely cob cure but I do like the difference and to me it brings out that "lumbo" taste I remember.

Not my picture

PICT4616.JPG

2004 gold from the Santa Marta mountains. I liked it, was almost identical to the imports I remember from the 70s. Lightly seeded, moderate potency but very euphoric. I grew some of the seeds out in 07 and made f2s that I would grow in 2015. By the time I made F3 I was living at the farm in zipacon.

2020 I havested and jarred it up, smoking the last jar now.

A few months ago I met a neighbor here in paipa that had 3 big plants in full flower. They were in his little garden compound behind his house. All three plants were pistillate and unkempt. I talk to him about the genetics and he said he'd been growing this same variety for years here. He didn't know the exact origin of the seeds and kept seed from when he had males in the grow. I'm pretty sure it's a pure Colombian but super leafy with no real buds. However the taste is unique and the hit is one I like. Not super potent but clean and complete. I'm hoping to germanate and sort through some of the seed to see I want to inbreed and refine it.

^^ Interesting. It appears the leaves have a fair amount of resin on them? I have a favorite Laos pheno that is really mostly just leaves in the 'buds', not very resinous. The high is clean/cerebral and more satisfying than the denser more resinous phenos. Trippier too.

There were 3 phenotypes all were big sativa morphology but very leafy. I didn't feel comfortable taking pictures but I smoked all 3 phenotypes. However the old guy (older than me) had moved and some lady was living at the house. Turns out that she was cool with me getting some buds cause the original guy left the plants. They were finished flowering but growing out in the open meant the latest rain storms beat the hell out of them. One plant completely on the ground. Bud rot and PM everywhere, almost made me sick. I tried to recover as much as I could but it was all moldy to some degree. I smoked on it anyway because I was in between harvest. Wasn't as good as before the rains but still better than crippi (to me).
IMG_20221028_090354.jpg

There were tricombs all over the leaves on this phenotype with a nice kind of grape lavender type smell that's not sweet. The hit was nice slow building to a slightly motivated peak and normal 2 hour duration. With the exception of the Malawi I find that I most often prefer "moderate" potency. I've been growing an F3 cut of Caribe for 3 years and I love it but the lab says it's only 12 % THC (Malawi hit 25%). I consume a lot more now than when I was younger so I I like to start the day light and work up through the day into evening.
I ve got a handful of the seed so I'll try to get to them in near future.

I am curious if the greenhouse alters the high over outdoor. I know the uvb rays are cut down by the glass. I am guessing it is similar or the same for effect.

I am with you on potency. It seems something is lost when they get so inbred that it is a mass of resin and also denser buds. Could be just in my head but do not think so.

Actually I don't believe that a greenhouse alters the environment too much. I haven't had the ability to do real comparisons between unprotected outdoor and greenhouse but I have done both simultaneously in zipacon. The cloud forest in zipacon is at a lower altitude than where I am now so it's different cause I get occasional hail storms here. Marbel size hail just shreds the plants so you've got to have some kind of protection. I like simple greenhouse roof (transperent plastic) and no walls. In my opinion the natural wind is the best ventilation and free. It is very possible to grow 100% outdoors but it's a gamble.

So the story goes after I got all the flowers off the moldy plants. I looked around the unkept garden and though I should put some plants there for personal. This was in November so I asked the lady if she would let my put 2 or 3 plants in her garden and I'd pay her. The lady was cool with it and I said I'd give her 50000 cop a month. I had some MHZ x Santa Marta Gold F1s that I wanted to try so around Christmas I planted 3 seedlings. I just cleared a sunny spot and dug 3 half meter deep holes, threw in some dry amendments and put the plants in then covered in humus. No greenhouse no roof just natural. I don't use liquid inputs or any chemicals but I do use EM·1 foliar and when I water.
IMG_20230203_104144.jpg

This garden is like two blocks away from my house so it's kind of convenient. However the lady never answers her phone so there's a 50 % chance that when I go to work on the plants, I can't get access because she's not there.

When was 17 in the late 70s I was living the school year in Dallas TX and the summer in South Florida. At the time I had occasional access to high quality Colombian imports both in Texas and Florida. Most of the time I had "mersh" or what we called commercial Colombian that got worse over the years but still had a potent hit. Once while at a keg party at grapevine lake TX I was talking to this guy who had some "redbud". I was pretty drunk and had been smoking red Lebanese, so I wasn't expecting much when this guy sparked a pinner. I had some good weed and I was going to match him a joint. Dude told me it was redbud and to be careful cause it was "expando". I watched him light the joint and start coughing. I thought he was acting playing up his weed. So I hit it and within seconds my lungs felt like they were bursting and I too was coughing away. I couldn't even pass the joint back coughing so hard. Finally the coughing subsided and man I was so high, this fine weed cut right though the booze and hash. Instantly I could feel my eye redding and this time I lightly hit the joint. Earlier I had bought a 25 dollar lid of what I thought was good Colombian but it was nothing like what this guy had. I ended up buying a half a lid from him for 40 bucks cause it was so good.

It looked like this Colombian I grew a few years ago except it was cured a little different. Woody incense flavor with a deep interperspective high that really sticks to your bones. Colombian redbud!

Dan the painter man

In early 1980 I was 17 years old and living in Boca Raton FLORIDA with my older brother. He'd kind of been kicked out of his wife's house and moved into a small four unit apartment building in Boca. I worked with him and his crew doing home insurance repair around ft Lauderdale. The dude that did the painting, Dan. He was from upstate NY, with long blonde hair and beard. Dan lived in the apartment above us. He was really quiet guy that rolled out walls and ceilings on the various jobs we did. I liked Dan and soon found out Dan was a dealer of high quality drugs that came into south Florida at the time. He would normally have two or three types of weed and often imported hashish. Also he would have coke but didn't sell it, along with ludes and blotter. I had very little money so normally I could only afford to buy a lid and just hope someone would turn me on to the more expensive delicacy s. Every week Dan would pick up a pound of this and pound of that and I knew exactly when he scored so I made sure to be there when he broke it down. I saw and smoked some incredible imports of not only fine Colombians but also the new sinsemilla from California and indica. I would buy an oz (he had a triple beam) of Colombian for $35 and it was just a little bit better than commercial. I would pester Dan about getting some real Colombian Gold like I had in Texas a few years before. Then real early one Saturday morning I saw a cop car in the apartment parking lot and Dan getting out of the passenger door. I had no idea what was going on but after the cop leaves I run upstairs to see. Dan was fucked up after being at an all night bar . When walking back home the cop just gave him a ride totally unaware of all the drugs Dan had in his possession. Dan being super never let the cop know. So it was like six am and Dan was about to pass out so we took a hugh bump and popped a beer. Once rejuvenated Dan threw a bag of weed at me saying there ya go. It was the Colombian Gold I'd been asking for. It wasn't exactly like I remembered from Texas but it was top self Gold. It was more orange Gold than yellow gold but nearly sinsemilla and very fresh. He said it was $45 and I gladly paid,it was a huge bag. Before I could roll and joint he said wait and handed me another bag that to my delight had an ounce of afghan black hashish. I put fresh water into US bong and loaded the one hitter bowl. Dan took an incredible hit that filled the air with that exotic Afghan aroma. I had to repack but got a good hit and immediately felt it. I noticed Dan's eyes were closed but he said he was just resting his eyes and to pack him another bowl. He never hit it before passing out. I took care of it for him. Then I threw a blanket on him and put all his drugs in his stash box along with my $45 and went down stairs to wake up my brother. I had a few more great smoking experiences with Dan but he was a truly cool guy that was an example of calmness.

In '74 I was getting 10$ ounces or lids was the term used. Adjusting to higher prices was tough as I was poor. Cigarettes were 35 cents a pack and then went to 50 cents pretty quick. They want around 8$ a pack for Marlboro and 13$ for Camel unfiltered now.

In 1979 I finally saved up $45 and was able to find some good Colombian Gold, an ounce. It was ok but not my thing. I have to admit the California sinsemilla I got right after that was more to my liking. I now favor those old lines, so all screwed up in my timing. hehe

Yeah I remember the first California sinsemilla I saw, at the time I was impressed with colorful non pressed flowers. It wasn't indica and I remember it to potent but I didn't think it was anywhere as good or strong as a redbud.
My son is 17 now and been around my plants all his life. However he's not interested in getting high as he's into body building and athletics. But he still goes with me to work on my plants and learns as much as he can. He understands my passion and my firm stance on regenitive cultivation. I'm proud of him and respect that he's not into getting high, I'm sure he'll see the light soon enough.

A lot of the reason for youths getting high is rebellion I think. You took that away, hehe.

I tried to get seeds from that first sinse I bought but they only had clones and I could not keep that where I was. I never had as good of stuff here in california again. It was perfectly neutral, neither up or down, , a dreamy euphoric and comfortable high.

The Colombian Gold by contrast was a rocket ride and I was already plenty nervous at that age and my circumstance. I pretty much cured my panic attacks with similar highs from pure sativas here in the last 8 years or so. It took a while, I think it rewired my brain after being so super energized like that, time after time.
The Corinto are in early flower now, have some Mangobiche seeds that I need to grow. Lots to do.

Well I remember some gold that wasn't potent at all (fools gold) , in fact the term was more a marketing tool I believe. Really at the time I thought sinsemilla was a novelty like seedless watermelon. A few short years later it was the standard.
I've grown a few mangobiche and even crossed it with Ace Bangi Haze that I really like. And Corinto (a town in the Cuca) was the last seeded weed I saw here. Corinto to me was the last traditional Colombian variety produced here. I don't buy very often anymore but it's been years since I've seen. When I was living in the Zipacon cloud forest I met some young growers that wanted me to try their mangobiche. They gave me some rosin and seed but no flower. The rosin was nice, nice hit and taste but rather bland high. I still haven't popped the seeds but maybe this year.

I love going to this little garden, like I said it's close to my house and I like the lady that lives there. These last two plants are very much like the staminate plant (SMG) . They're growing in the ground in the open, never had supplemental light and are right around 90 days since germanation. I'm looking forward to evaluating them around May. Very few people here want to grow a plant that long as far as I know.
