Vintage Colombian

Thank you for welcoming me. :tiphat: I really appreciate kind gestures like that.

Do you happen to know any seed banks that sell legit Santa Marta Gold? Would the strain even express its gold characteristics if I tried to grow her 12/12 from seed indoors?

In addition, has anyone made an autoflowering version of legit Santa Marta Gold yet? I wonder if breeder Stich is working on a super auto version of this strain.

Greetings and welcome TangieFanatic, yes Santa Marta gold is golden colored sativa from the santa marta region of Colombia. The buds in the picture came from a plant I grew in Bogota from seed that came from Santa Marta.

Hello my friend, I wish I could help point you in the right direction as far as finding genuine Santa Marta gold seed short of coming here. However for genuine Colombian genetics I recommend “Punto Rojo” from Cannabiogen and or some of the crosses with it. I’m not familiar with seedbank offerings but I know you will like Punto Rojo and it’s been worked so you don’t have to go through hundreds of plants. The gold and lighter Colombians are not as potent as the darker reds and blacks but to me Punto Rojo is the perfect balance of all the Colombians.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip. Cannobiogen's Punto Rojo sounds amazing. If I were to ever visit Columbia, where might I go in Santa Marta to find the best Columbian Gold? Are there farmers markets that would be safe for an American to buy from?

If you want to come to Colombia PM me and plan on going to Bogota. I haven't been to the coast in a decade and I wouldn't know where to tell you to look there (but I'm sure you would find something worthy there). Right now very little chance finding anything at a farmers market but I do see that in the near future.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I ever visit Bogota. If I ever make it to Bogota, I would love to sample the finest Columbian Gold. I also would like to chew on coca leaves straight off the plant. I believe that the coca plant has been unjustly persecuted all these years. It's a beautiful plant with amazing medicinal attributes. I would love to see the highland Bogota varieties growing under the beautiful Columbian sun. I wish the silly war on drugs would finally end here in America.

Greetings, a few things I’d like to clarify are what I do in Colombia is not something anyone else couldn’t do. I’m sure there’s many gringo men living here in Colombia and surly I’m not the only one growing weed here. But I’ve been “living” here for a while and I’ve seen a change in what’s available to me here in Bogota. 10 years ago I was seeding the traditional Colombians, fully seeded pressed fermented buds. Just like from the 70s but not as old and beat up from transport. Then I went away for 4 years and came back to find “crippa” I’d heard of Crippa before but never seen it Bogota till 2011. In 11 I was still getting the traditional Colombian but harder to find. Now I only have one source for the traditional Colombian and that’s through my longtime friend George. It seems now the Crippa is the majority of the cannabis grown here or that’s available locally. The Colombians that do smoke prefer Crippa and the market shows this. Crippa however is not the same as the plants I grew from imported seed (Nirvana, white label and some others), Crippa grows like a tropical NLD strain. I’ve been growing a female for almost seven months and she’s just starting to flower. Crippa is strange and comes in a thousand different varieties. But crippa is not the plant I want to grow here, I want the lower potency spicy traditional Colombian. I don’t want to grow here around Bogota because the climate sucks, like now it’s not the rainy season but we haven’t had one full sunny day since February. And it’s cold here, doesn’t freeze but low temps really slow growth coupled with few sunny days. Colombians do grow weed around Bogota and it’s the Corinto and some Corinto can be excellent (most not impressive). Here is some Corinto I bought here at a little farmers market in Bogota (05).

View Image

If you’re careful and know what to say you can find some good weed at these markets but it’s not always available.

View Image

I think as things progress with legalization the masses will require tons and tons of Crippa but I also feel there will be a small micro market for my type of Colombian.

I recommend a holiday in Colombia to everyone. Colombia has changed, hell I've seen a big change in just the last 13 years since I've been living here. And I can honestly say it is "safer" here now. I really know the capitol as I've been a resident here for over seven years and a tax payer. I've walked all over the city and know well at least 85% of the city. This is my second home and I have a blood connection to the city and it's people, so my perspective of Colombia is very unique. On a holiday or a trip here you live much different and are treated different by the people. You know and they know that you're only going to be there for a short time so your experience here is not really like "living" here. My connections here are years long and beyond trust so I interact on a different level than someone visiting a cousin for two weeks. The other thing is I don't travel around as much now so I really only know what's going on right around me here in Bogota (weed wise). There is so much cannabis cultivated here that I'm only seeing a grain of sand in the Sahara. I can only buy and consume so much, there's so much I never get to see. The chances are if one were to come to Colombia (Santa Marta) you could indeed find some very good Colombian sativa and possibly even the real gold. For me it was worth the chance.

The crippa

The crippa

In the spring of 2005 my Colombian friend George went to Santa Marta (from Bogota) and brought back some traditional mountain grown gold. I got about a kilo of it for $30 (60,000 COP). Pure flash back Colombian gold, fully seeded pressed aromatic tops that were not old and beaten to death. The effect was wonderfully refreshing, bright happy and good any time. Very little tolerance even with constant use but not super strong.

This is what I prefer

Nine years later from my same buddy George my first Colombian “crippy”. Buds from two different samples both selling for the incredible rate of 5,000 pesos a gram! The bud on the left was pure white and crazy one hit potent with a taste like candy. The bud on the right came from 10 grams of fruity smelling/tasting herb that made me think of Dutch skunk. Both were over the top potent but short duration and quick tolerance.

This is what you find in 2015

Thanks so much bombadil.360, it's not easy to have a dream. I can't change her but I can change me. Adapt and overcome and that's what I'm trying to do. I must stop allowing myself to get distracted by these females and focus on the finca. I must say though even with all the crap I put up with I really love living here and enjoy every moment.

World of seed Santa Marta Gold, I got to be honest here, I don’t know anything about them or their seed. But their description was/is 100% false and was almost an insulting. I would be very surprised (in fact I’m surprised there’s not more) if “someone” didn’t have pure Colombian genetics but to my limited knowledge there is only one source for verifiable Colombian genetics. And we all know and love this guy for his honest and superior landrace genetics.
I love reading about all the cool hybrids and crosses everyone is growing and posting pictures of but I’m not interested in growing them here (well maybe one or two). I’ve got all the seeds I want to grow from here, I just want the perfect place to grow them. There’s so many micro climates here that I think would produce very unique cannabis. I was talking to another young lady about the town she’s from about two hours south of Bogota. She said that it was the perfect year round climate that was semi-arid and of good altitude. The village itself she said was over 400 years old and very chilled out never being important to the narco war. The peaceful people live happy simple lives working the lands rich bounties. And this woman is absolutely beautiful, with striking facial distinction and silky jet black waist length hair. Her skin the color of burnt cinnamon, painted blood red finger nails and full lips paired with an enchanting alluring fun personality. More intoxicating than wine, the way she laughs at every word in a purring way. Really nice but distractive, but her village is worthy of investigation in the future.
Coca leaves are 100% legal in Colombia and can be bought from many different sources in the city. There’s the fancy mall teabag leaves sold in the rich north part of the city that cost more than pure cocaine on the street to the farm fresh market leaves. I get mine fresh from the market. Coca leaves are medicinal and are good for humans. I don’t use them all the time but they are great for a pick me up much better than the other choices especially coffee. I just make a simple tea from the fresh leaves adding lemon and honey or unrefined sugar. I make it pretty strong but unlike coffee coca never give me the jitters or burn out no matter how much I consume. Coca tea does numb the mouth and throat but not like cocaine; in fact I seem to have better taste after drinking it. The effect is mild but first thing in the morning it can be felt pretty strong. One or two cups and I’m good, the hot coca also really helps the stomach allowing me to drink fresh OJ after. I can drink this tea all day and still sleep at night, it’s really good stuff nothing like the ugly cocaine. I guess it’s obvious I’ve had a cup or two already. Hold fast.

The company is no longer functioning but some gear is still available elsewhere . Luiz had some issues awhile back and supposedly the last of stock was sold out

The CG was thought to be a hybrid but very CG leaning . Their are positive reports of old stock

I'd suggest gage green genetics for a true pure lumbo

Seeds

Hey thanks bigherb, I really don’t know who has what or how real it is. I just saw that WOS SMG description and had to laugh but I know nothing of the seed.

Colombian tolerance, I’ve noticed over the years how tolerance affects me with certain strains. If I have nothing better to do than smoke repeatedly throughout the day I build up a tolerance to most all strains. We all do but some strains not as fast and others seem to have almost no tolerance build up. In Colombia I can get a half pound of lower potency seeded bud and smoke it for two months with no tolerance as long as I have short breaks (Like for work). But as a rule with the more powerful crippy I’m tired of it after 10 grams even with breaks. The good thing is every time I get anything here it’s different, never the same. One day it’s beautiful blond clumps of seedless goodness and the very next dark green golf ball buds. No matter how great the crippy is its high potency seems to burn me out faster than the lower potency stuff. I like both and I try to keep two or three types of crippy along with some just brown lumbo for balance. Also I don’t like taking long breaks from smoking, in the past I thought that the longer I could abstain the better I would get off. However I find more than a week is not needed and actually more than a week takes me some time to enjoy the effect again.

This came out of some seeds I bought from Luiz years ago. I thought this leaned towards the colombian side. May have been a hybrid. But, it sure reminded me of the Colombian bud we used to get decades ago.
