That was a good story Sforza and I don’t doubt its authenticity but I really try to discourage this type of thinking about Colombia (and in general). Like many places on the planet there are some really bad things going on, evils of unspeakable deeds and unfortunately Colombia is one of them. But this reputation of being a dangerous filthy country filled with thieves and whores is brought on by foreigners asking for it. If you meet the good people of Colombia with honest and sincere intentions you will have this returned to you 10 fold. But if you come here looking for the dark side of things you will get them 10 fold.

I personally have no use for prostitutes or hard drugs because I get more than high enough just from a little bud and you don’t need much charm or good looks to have a romantic relationship with a beautiful Colombian woman. I invite everyone that can to come to this country and see just how beautiful it is but please don’t come here looking for trouble, be respectful.

No hard feelings, I have nothing against having the best time but we must be very careful doing that.

Santa Marta

Here’s when I was in Santa Marta, I found the city to be very clean and organized. The beach is much nicer than Cartagena and not so many vendors. I partied there but just a little since I had a girlfriend and was enjoying time with her more than anything.

Nice pictures, Red. I loved the Spanish Colonial architecture of the old sections of Santa Marta. There would be a narrow sidewalk and a line of buildings with no windows. But when you went into the house there would be a nice courtyard in the middle of the house with plants and perhaps a monkey or a parrot or two. Lots of colorful tiles.

Those pictures of the beach look more like Rodadero than the beach at Santa Marta, but I was there a long time ago so perhaps things have changed.

Yeah man I'm just a little defensive of how "Colombians" are perceived. See I'm kind of on the other side of the fence now, living here so long and being a part of a Colombian family. What I see now is how foreigners are perceived by Colombians. But hey man that was 40 some odd years ago and we were all different humans then. Me personally I don't associate with or know any Colombians, family, friends or business associates that use the prostitutes that are available here. Maybe times have changed but the folks I know here think the men that resort to prostitutes are desperate or lacking in some way, almost like a child molester. It's really looked down upon and certainly not information to share with others. The Colombian people I know are hard working, honest dedicated, loyal people, now the "street" people here will rip you off in a heartbeat but I don't know them. Funny thing is I never associated with whores or needles (hard drugs) ever, here or anywhere else for that matter. Just not my thing but to each his own.

Cool breeze Red. Like I said, I love your thread and love your pictures and I enjoy reading your posts, so I don't want to come in here and spoil a good thing.

I also love Colombia and Colombians. I had a job that required dealing with people in oil refineries and I was talking to a chemical engineer at a refinery out in Carson, CA. She was very good looking and had an accent and after we talked for a while it turned out that she was originally from Colombia.

I also posted a story in another thread about a good time that I had in Colombia with a girl who was not a puta.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5466610&postcount=113

I spent some time in Cartagena de Indias, where I met a really good looking blond girl with big green eyes on the beach, along with her younger, but still beautiful sister and her mother. They said that they were from Bogotá and had flown into Cartagena for the Christmas Holidays.

The blond said that they were staying at the navy base in Cartagena and asked if I would take them out on the town that night. Naturally I said, F'n A Right I would, although not in those exact words. My Spanish is not very good and she did not speak any English, but I was an experienced and fluent speaker of girl, and we were able to make ourselves understood. I knew that I was into something a little different than what I was used to picking up on the beach, when it came time to leave the beach and they insisted that I get a ride with them. We got into a black sedan with police marking and a military driver. He drove us to the base, where we dropped the women off. They showed me where I was supposed to come in a couple hours to pick them up to go out on the town, then they had the driver take me to where I was staying.

I was staying in the back bedroom of a house in a lower class neighborhood on the outskirts of town owned by some friends or relatives of my main man in Santa Marta. I did not have much to do with them, but was just crashing for a few days until the business was done. During my stay at their house, one evening they were sitting outside in front of their house drinking and talking. I had just smoked some ganja and came out to enjoy the cool evening breezes. They pointed out the beauty of the full moon. It was gorgeous. In my halting Spanish I agreed that it was beautiful; then I said that Americans drove a car on it, which ended the conversation.

I took a shower, shaved, and changed clothes to get ready to go meet the girls. I can't remember if the family gave me some dinner that night or not. I did take some meals with them, but it was hit or miss, not a regular thing.

I do remember that I had some pretty good weed during that stay, but no papers or pipe. I could have used bread bag paper and rolled a spliff, like I used to do in Jamaica, but this weed was a lot stronger then the usual Jamaican weed. What I did was use an Aguila beer can. I just dented in the side of the can, whipped out my ratchet knife, poked a few small holes in the bottom of the dent, and used the hole in the top of the can as the mouthpiece. It was not the greatest pipe, but with the dark green and red dried bud, it only took a few hits to set me right.

With a good buzz on, I went out in the street and caught a cab to the Naval base in Cartagena. The cab driver dropped me off where I directed him to, then, stoned out of my gourd, I walked down the palm lined drive to the main gate, where I was given a dose of guff by the guards at the gate. Knowing that the fine looking green eyed blond was inside the base somewhere and remembering the look in her eyes when we parted that afternoon, it was going to take more than a couple of Colombian navy guards to run me off.

Eventually, after some calls and some waiting, I was escorted into a building near the gate to wait for my date. Being a naval base, there were a lot of sharp looking officers in their uniforms, who all seemed to be giving me the evil eye. The scowls on their faces turned to rage when the gals came sashaying into the room looking like a fine tropical salad.

My girl was a knockout in a pastel off the shoulder dress, thick wavy blond hair set off with a tropical flower behind her ear, huge green eyes framed with black mascara, and full luscious lips glistening rosy pink. One did not have to be a mind reader to know that those officers were outraged that a gringo was taking out the best looking woman in Colombia, a country that is full of good looking woman. Hey, it was not my fault that I am 6' 3" with baby blues that women melt for.

Little sister was also looking good, although she had light brown hair and brown eyes, so she was not as striking as my date. Mother was dolled up as much as she could manage, but she was still small and mousy.

Again the navy driver and the black sedan were used to take us out, first to a beach bar that I had been to a couple times before during the day. We had a few drinks and a lot of laughs and then we headed to the disco, which was a sort of cave with all the typical lights and décor of the times. We danced and hugged and kissed and a good time was had by all. Little sister was funny and Mom was a good sport.

Blondie gave me her address and I told her I would write her, but with her father being some sort of finance minister in the government at the time, I was afraid of pushing my luck and never wrote her or saw her again. But it was a night to remember and cherish.

Actually, you reffered to american women as girls, but either way, you differentiated them and columbian whores, just wondering why...

Did I differentiate them or did I say that in many ways they were the same? People are people. Women are women. There are superficial differences, but we all have a lot more in common than there are differences. In some cultures, women are divided into whores and good girls. I have found that to be an artificial construct.

Sorry about the comment about Canadian women. Obviously there was no mention of Canadian women in this thread. I wrote about an incident that happened in Santa Marta in another thread that involved Canadian women in Colombia

Odd plants

Odd plants

Moving right along.....

The neighbors, real close to one side of the property. Might just have been me but seemed like every time I went out to that side of the house to take a hit someone was over there…looking.

Lots of strange little tropical plants scattered around like weeds

They’re not planted and seem to be a variety of types and intensely colored flowers.

The air temps are not hot here nor are they cool/cold like in Bogota. It stays year round 70-75 F in the day and 65-70 F at night and the humidity is hardly felt in the crisp mountain air. At night the cooler temps make building a fire and smoking a gold bud, perfect before a deep refreshing sleep in the tropical highlands..

Finca 1 is nice and I do plan on growing some strains there, however my target location is elsewhere.

attachment.php

To the northwest of Bogota is a high mesa that has a “semi-arid” climate that I strongly feel will produce a higher quality plant. What I want is an altitude of no less than 9,000ft where there’s plenty of ground water but not a lot of rain. I want more sunny days and more intense sunshine. I feel combined with the correct soil and strain I can cultivate a plant that produces a cannabinoid profile that suites the unique effect I’m after. I think by maximizing the natural sun light in a dry low humidity high altitude climate will not only maximize the plants natural expressions but also (hopefully) exaggerate them. The effect I’m after is long lasting clear motivational euphoria that is a powerful mood brightener, the other side of say a narcotic indica. Like a tropical vacation in a bud.

Tales of gold

Tales of gold

High in the Colombian Andes there’s a small alpine village that has stood since the Spaniards conquered this land 500 years ago. The village is so remote visitors are unheard of and life remains the same as it always did. The inhabitants of the village were simple people that learned over the centuries to coexist with the land and live off it. Then in the late 1960s the first white foreigners came to the village bringing a new seed with them. The seed came from Asia and was very potent in effect. The village farmers began to sow this new seed and again returned the foreigners teaching them how to remove the male plants and to select the best plants to grow. The farmers quickly learned how to cultivate the plants and soon they flourished under the Colombian sun. The foreigners would come and buy the resinous flowers and the village prospered. Then the foreigners stopped coming and the beautiful flowers died on the vine with no customer to buy them. No longer did the village farmers plant fields of the golden flowers and soon the village returned to its peaceful way of life. But some farmers saw the benefits of this magical plant and continued to grow it, inbreeding selecting only the most medicinal plants. Years pasted, decades past and every year the farms grew the plants making their own medicines. Fathers would teach sons and grandsons as technics were passed from generation to generation. Now 50 years later this plant that has been perfected and isolated is my target. I know there are hundreds if not thousands of tiny remote farms that once grew drug strains for exporters, still grow that same un homogenized (pure) strain. Sure most commercial grow operations started using hybrids towards the end of mass production but many many small farmers didn’t and continued to grow small batches of the original strains. So far I feel I’ve found 5 or 6 of these rare strains but I know there’s more gold in them there hills.

Hello Red,

Are you by any chance talking about the highlands of Santa Marta? The Arahuacos and Kiowas? That dress in white with the pointed white hats? Coca leaf chewers per excellence?

If so, I've met a couple of their Mamos (shamans), impressive people with hearts full of light, wow!

Also, the Cordillera de Santa Marta is independent of the Cordillera Andina btw, what an interesting place to say the least.

Sforza, I'm also a bit defensive when it comes to Colombia, I've always felt identified with them more than my own people (Venezuelans) due to how close to Colombia I was raised. When you mentioned you have been in Caracas, my curiosity peaked hehehe... But don't want to hijack the thread by asking you to relate stories from Venezuela... We are our own harshest crititcs so everything goes hehehe...

Peace!

I have spent a month hanging out in Rio. On the plane ride down I remember waking up and hearing "We are now flying over Bogata Colombia". It hit me holy fuck I am in South America! I was imagining all the stuff happening in the mountains, and amazon jungle right under me. I can still smell Brasilian bud from a mile away. That was a plane ride like no other. Beautiful girls everywhere and people poping bottles of champagne. Was an amazing trip. Fuck I wish I could tell you guys a few stories from Brasil.

Ah yes Hawaii, in 1996 I won an all-expense paid vacation in Kauai. Very beautiful there and I spent 14 days roaming the island. I couldn’t score any weed there though, I asked around and got an ugly reaction. I did have a great time there boozing it up with other “tourist”. But the local people were very disappointing so much so I would never return. The climate seemed to be perfect for growing depending on which side of the island you’re on. I sampled some fine Hawaiian grown cannabis in the late 70s and it was some of the absolute best bud for me to date. Too bad I couldn’t find any (or anything else) while I was there, it sure would have softened the harsh local vibe. I did indeed meet some very nice people there but they were tourist like me.

I'm reading a book called "Weed Man" by John McCaslin that reminded me of this thread. It's about some straight laced dude that got involved smuggling Colombian weed into the states during the 70's. Here's a quick excerpt..

"The bales of weed had all looked the same to Jimmy until Chief took the time to educate his friend on the numerous varieties and grades. There was legendary Santa Marta gold, which yielded a luxurious, long lasting buzz. The fertile llano, or grasslands region the the east, produced a rich variety of herb once commonly called Lowland Colombian, until it's fan base renamed it Panama Red, for it's rich, red-brown hues. Further to the south in the Cali hills, Puna Roja, a darker variety of cannabis with red streaks, has a THC content so concentrated, it is known to cause hallucinogenic effects. Then there's Colombian Green, which is actually more black than green. Either way, it's wacky Weed that renders smokers, well, wacky."

Wow that sounds like my kind of book Green Squall! I love all the different names for the Colombians. It's funny because now in Bogota there's only one "named" type (not a strain) and that's crippy. Most of the time it's just referred to as "marijuana" with a heavy Colombian accent. But great stuff!

Ahhh the Hawaiians from the seventies. I only saw it two or three time and once it came from a can of some type. I didn't see the can it can in but it was unbelievably good stuff, rare and expensive. What I tried was bluish and aromatic with a tropical floral smell and taste. The effect long lasting clear euphoria, that made you feel like you were on the beach in Hawaii (that was before I actually went there). The Hawaiian I had in the seventies was every bit as potent as any Colombian But it was 10 times more expense and even harder to find. So pound for pound good Colombian was (and still is) my first choice.
There's still a lot of us that remember the Colombian of the past but there's even more that have only heard about it. I feel it is my mission to "reintroduce" Colombian to those that remember but just as important is introducing those who don't know this very unique cannabis to it. Out of the ashes we shall rise again!

I remember getting some Colombian off a freighter in the early
70's ..the shit was almost black in color... u would roll a joint, and 1/2 way thru it, your fingers are gooey and sticky from black tar...

never had anything like that b4 or after.... it was a fine smoke... we have been growing for 15+years, and we have yet to find any weed that equals the shit we were smoking in the late 60s/ear 70s...

when I hear how todays weed is stronger then in the past ..one word comes to mind....BULLSHIT...

My optimistic future

My optimistic future

There is no question that certain Colombian cannabis is extremely potent. How will it grow indoors? I couldn’t tell you because I never grew anything indoors. However I do know how the Colombian plant grows and I think with today’s technology and the skill of the modern cultivator even pure Colombian strains can indeed reach perfection indoors. Although I doubt many indoor growers would be inclined to grow it simply because of the flowering time (that’s worth the wait). Now will these Colombian genetics grown indoors reproduce the same smell, taste and effect you got from Colombian in the past? The answer is NO, absolutely not, your indoor grown bud will be 100% better in several ways. Why? As we all know exported Colombian was grown pretty well but sometimes harvested early and pressed into bricks, then beat to hell transported for thousands of miles before we ever saw it. This in itself loses not only a good bit of potency but also smell and changes the taste. So not only will your Colombian “look” 100% better but the taste and effect will be dramatically improved. The same warm rich brightening effect will be there but stronger and more pronounced, deeper felt in the mind and body. Also you will have the self-satisfaction of recreating the past better than it was (you god you). I see the future to be very bright and Colombian will once again return but this time showing only her beauty and love.
