Well. I took some digital pictures of the old photos... They came out fair...

These two guys are 2 of my very best buddies ever...We've know each other since we were 17...
Sadly for me, the guy with the big joint and the orange shirt died in '99 from a bad heart illness...He was only 45.
I took his ashes to the jungle of Panama, and spread them in a salt water lagoon near the house I had helped him build..
In the middle of freakin' nowhere...

Anyway, I called my other buddy this morning to confirm the dates of their grows I previously mentioned.. This was near the Catskill Mountains of NY...
They aren't quite as old as I thought..I was thinking '74 and '75..

The pics are actually from the autumn of 1976...
They were bringing in some nice ones...

The 3rd pic was taken a few weeks later...

Some old 70’s grow book from Australia. Looks like they knew what they were doing.

I am not sure. Just found it on a random Instagram profile. Astral Projection I believe the name was.

There def was killer weed back then. Just a group of good people growing weed for themselves. Prohibition kept it out of most hands. Selling or offering cuts was not a thing for most. The supply was so limited not everyone was able to experience those killer plants. When we try to tell this generation about those killer plants they refuse to believe us based on those crappy HT pic of imported weed.

I live way out in the country these days and just went into town yesterday morning to do errands..Might be 5 of 6 days before I go back and try to get those old pictures scanned..

Maybe I'll try to take a digital picture of those old photos and see if that works...

Meanwhile.....

I have a hard time thinking of 1987 as vintage too, as I was already in my mid 30's then..
But I realize 1987 is vintage to a lot of people...

In '87 I was living fairly far back in the Florida Everglades...
Pot was really easy to grow there as far as nature was concerned..
But for the grower it was hard work with the heat and humidity and all the pot-spotter planes they had flying around then..

I picked up a copy of High Times that summer... I hadn't bought one in almost 10 years..
They had an article saying that they wanted people to send in stories for their "Harvest Issue" to come out in December..

I wrote them a letter and they published it!
I bought the December '87 "Harvest Report" issue and saved it...
I'd been using my "Bud Green" handle since around 1982...

I can't believe nowadays that I use to think 9 oz. per plant was good!

Maine's creeping pot??? I would like to read that article.

A few months ago I was shocked because I saw someone from Waterville showing a 16' tall plant heavily branched. I didn't know Marijuana grew so well so far towards the North. I asked him but he told me it was a CBD (hemp) strain.

Now surveillance is even worse. Drones, people paragliding, also choppers, thieves and snitches as ever.

Love this thread guys! the only thing that has changed in cannabis now to back then is the compounds within the genetics.
Back then you had mixed spectrum of compounds over 20 to 60 that give a different feeling. smell, taste, effect complexity etc etc because those compounds are also monoterps that effect everything including potency smell, taste etc.

Today we have lots of strains that have 1 or 2 main compounds which is usually THC-A (which is actually a conversion of real THC which in my opinion is the biggest problem with our polyhybirds 1 trick ponies i call them) & CDB maybe CBN and few others at very low scales 00.2% and a few monoterps usually high in 1 2 or 3 and low in the rest. 00.2%

Example an old landrace could have 15 monoterps and 20+ active compounds in the genes with many phenos giving different results, so what you end up with is a wide array of compounds including monoterps which enhances your experience

Compare that to a bottleneck F1 Feminized strain... where a person ran through 100s of phenos of a strain and choose the 1 displaying the most THC and strongest smell.

Lets use Chem D..They choose the best chem D and cloned it. 1 pheno from 1000s of expressions in that strain.
What your left with is a plant that's high in only THC-a low CBD and maybe 2 monoterps so everybody is experiencing the same plant every single time, same compounds, that would be very different if they had 5 or 10 added compounds.

So maybe newer cannabis is stronger due to selection but only stronger on the THC-A side like a 1 trick pony but the best pony you seen!!.. but lacks complexity in the high which will lead to tripper effects.
Like as i mentioned when you choose 1 pheno that has the most THC-a and loudest smell mycerne you normally end up with non complexity but a lot of strength in 1 area.

Its like a cake... some people love a cake with lots of flavours and textures and complex tastes which in turns satisfies them, where maybe the next guy like a triple chocolate cake and he is happy and full after it.
The only difference was the ingredients (compounds).

Another personal thing i would like to add is The Dea were into a lot of countries cannabis they literally went into peoples countries destroyed there landrace and left, why? well look at the dates 80's 90s most good landrace was ruined by this type of stuff... then you look at legalisation in america then you look at who is the mecca of cannabis and sells it the world over? America does. And that's what america and Cananda want!! they want you from (insert country) to source your cannabis from them and not be able to source the real genes and compounds available in cannabis they want you on the generic THC-A THC-V the fake stuff that science recently claimed thc converts to THC-A... yeah just after legalization that happened ;)

Here's an example of what im talking about. CHEM D. Notice all the non detections of compounds and the compounds it does display are very low almost non existing to.
0.58 real THC.. The conversion to A in my opinion is the generic THC.. you can link scientific articles all day proving the conversion happens yet you fail to realise the source of the info is probably Agenda driven and im talking real agenda not some guy in his basement messing with phenos. World agenda.
This is 1 pheno, 1 small example of the strains we get. 1 reversed female on itself or crossed to another f1 chemical Feminized 1 pheno of 1000s. you end up with blandness. no complexity which for me is the main effect of great cannabis.
Not to mention people constantly reversing the same clones and strains over and over, Mutating the genes before you even pop them.

Anyway my 2 cent i could literally keep going on this subject but i wont get to deep.

Cheers for all the photos and articles and good vibes to the ole heads here and the newer and in between guys.

We all love cannabis doesn't matter if it came from the 70s 80s 90s till 2020. The plant rules over time. PEACE to all.

Probably the test is done with HPLC method, so 24.14% THCA is what you get then, but a GC analyse would measure around 22-23% THC.

yeah but regardless of 1 small test i think my point remains about compounds and how they are all non detected. its a bottleneck of a strain and all of our strains that are fem will show up nearly the same... when they breed with the 1 pheno thats what you end up with... lack of complex compounds and terps then another breeder uses that same pheno to cross into another strain and the limited compounds continue and continue.

example
hybird bottleneck winner 30% thca x bottleneck winner hybird 25% thca.. all you end up with is another winner in 1 department resin and smell.
again lacks complexity in compounds
then somebody takes that strain and crosses it to another 1 pheno bottleneck fem and limited compounds continue.. even going into the f2s will bring more complexity back into a strain that's why you find more complexity in F2s and F3s than F1's you have recessive compounds including terps and monoterps waiting in those generations.

This info is in regards to the ongoing argument of (time over potency). AKA generation vs generation who had better pot.
My argument is that cannabis only differs in compounds from the past to the present. Im open to hearing otherwise.

Also another opinion of mine would be back then vintage cannabis before sensimilla always had seeds.
There has been studies and people's experiences found that cannabis plants that are seeded at the right time produce more cannabinoids to protect the young seedlings in the early stages of flower from dying or being burned and until the seed has its fully protective layer. (if it happens at the right time early on and that plant still produces flower right until harvest it should be highly potent from inside the bud to outside.)
And being that's a natural protection mechanism for seeds in cannabis that would make sense that maybe just maybe one of the reasons some of the older seeded landrace cannabis people use to smoke and get nostalgia from when they look back, where in fact highly potent from this reason and the more complex compounds within the cannabinoids. Anyway this is just my thoughts and understandings.

Let’s try posting something with the new software. Mel Frank has some amazing pictures from the old days. It’s a gallery called “When we were criminals”
