I agree, you should start another thread. Not flaming or anything, but "we" should respect this thread.
Thanks and take care

My sincerest apologies, Sinfuldreams, if I did in fact Hijack your post. I wasn't aware I was doing that. I will immediately move this to the breeder's area. Again, I am really sorry about that. I would never think of doing such a thing intentionally.

Hey No Worries
Besides these don't llok like they want to play.
I still got em and check daily... I cracked the shells and used a small bit of Ferts sprayed on them. Might be a lesson in futility but I like Lessons :)

So no problems, But a Thread in the Breeders forum for the Project is best.

I've learned a few things from this thread!

I think everything posted so far has been on-topic and relevent!

also - take care with those seeds that take two weeks to pop.....if you are using the wet tissue method for germinating ..make sure to change the tissues every few days as the temps being very warm, the bleach in the tissues fades away coupled with the super high humidity under the Saran....mold can develop very easily and seeds won't germinate or survive

Older seeds do take longer to germinate but also keep in mind that these tropical seeds usually take 8 ~ 15 days to germinate anyway...even when they were 6 months old!....sativas have evolved (either via natural or by human selection) differently from indicas to suit their conditions..sats usually need to be several months old before getting into flowering even if the natural photoperiod falls below their "flowering trigger" point..and also how a sativa seed germinates is different from indi's too as they often take longer to germinate so they make sure the conditions are right...an indica seed thaws then germinates, it doesn't freeze in the tropics and it can rain at anytime, but seeds need to germinate as the main rains come ( not when a light Winter rain comes) and finish in drier months to survive ( even sativas find trouble surviving flowering duringa bad cyclone/typhoon/hurricane season)

another thing to watch out for with old seeds is they can become too wet...once a seed has swelled it is ready to plant in my opinion

I usually just plant seeds in soil ..but with old or expensive seeds a few days on moist tissues can help germination percentage rates improve

it cant emphasised enough that warmth is what those tropical seeds need to get out of their shells.....30C or 90F is what you need...in the tropics, these seeds germinate during hot dripping wet, muggy, hot weather

a Thai or Zamal landrace seed might take 18 days to pop the soil surface if soil temps are in the 70's but will be a week earlier if the conditions are kept in the high 80F ~ low 90F's

Rules here don't allow trades or anything, either. It's for the safety & security of the members.

i read somehwere that they stripped of stems in a certain fashion to induce yellowing of the buds. Do you plan on doing the same??

Hiya,
I wish you the best of luck getting these old seeds to sprout.
I have some bag seeds of Columbian Sativa saved as of 1984 - 1990.
Yea I know its not 1978-1979 but they are the real Mcoy.
I smoked some great weed in the 70's and was lucky enough to find Columbian in the 80's.
In the days ahead i am going to be trying to sprout some of my old bag seeds and if your interested I will keep you posted on how that works out.
For now I started a new grow with seeds I just got in bag weed just in case my old seeds dont sprout I would not be three or four weeks behind on getting something started.
Good luck with the seeds your wrking with.
I hope I am welcome to join this thread.
I dont want to post off topic with newer seeds from 1984.
I think we hold onto the same dream of trying to bring a strain back of these awesome Columbian Sativa strains.
I will never forget smoking Gold.
Taste is very important to me as well as a good high.
Peace.

Hello Tandare,

Of course you are welcome to post in this thread mate! The more the merrier, for sure. I'm glad you have taken an interest in seeing the old beans back in full production and available in seed shops worldwide. I think it woulkd be absolutely outstanding to be able to walk into a store and select Panama Red or Purple Oaxacan, or even Thai Stick! And all for a very reasonable price!
That is my goal, as well as everyone else's who has come on board for this global collective project.

I would be very interested in you keeping us updated on your "old school" grow. I have some original Colomdian Gold beans as well, and I will try them out here in the next crop or two.

If anyone has genuinely old seeds out there, and they haven't a clue what to do with them but want them included in this project, should PM me.

Absolutely Welcome Tandare

Absolutely Welcome Tandare

The Seeds I had did not sprout.
I'm not too disapointed as I know Billy has more as do others round here.
So it's not important that I germ any, but that people take an intrest and if the have old seed to give them a try, or have someone else try.

I am very satisfied the thread has take the turn it has. Lots of intrest out there.
I wish everyone the best of luck and happy hunting with these old seeds.
Keep us updated Tandare good luck or not. Nothing ventured nothing Gained.

Good Luck!

I agree, Sinfuldreams, this thead has really sparked a lot of interest in bringing back the "old school strains" for everyone to anjoy again. It can be doen, I'm certain, if we organize ourselves well and keep the ball rolling.

I am now searching for suitable domain names for a central Website dedicated to this project, where people can go and learn all about the processes we have tried and succeedded/failed at. I think a year from now we'll be hearing some very exciting things from folks who have decided to join our little collection of interested parties. Here are a few of the better ones I tried: marijuanadreams.com, oldschoolbeans.com, oldschoolseeds.com, onemagicbean.com, themagicbeans.com, onegoldenseed.com,
theseedsprout.com, and seedseekers.com. Do any of these sound good to you folks? Some feedback would really be appreciated here!

Thanks!

If anyone has old landrace seeds even if old and dead, I want them. I can extract their DNA and sequence it to see what the Cannabis is related to (other Cannabis varieties) and what it evolved from and where from. To be useful we just need to know what area of the world they were collected in. I have a list of questions to be answered by anyone that has any seeds to contribute, just PM me.
