hey hazy! - i've got some more training pics to post later
i think really you always need to be able to have a good look at your plants and that is one of the huge advantages of modular scrog over regular scrog. the plant is still a plant in a pot that you can take out and have a good look at. this means that PM or herms or pests can be spotted easily. someone much smarter than me once said 'observation is the path to true enlightenment and there is definitely someting in that.
hey Verdant things are lookin great over there man...nice of ya to go into detail on your training process i'll be lookin forward to that. Do u think u will be able to notice a diff from the previously harvested cheese to the one u have finishing out now under the mh? I am really interested in seeing if it does increase the trichs and terpenes. Keep up the great work man.....peace
hey Irie - watch this space for any difference maybe just the last week isnt enough but i will take some comparison shots before i harvest - which will be soon
btw you asked where in Ja my friend visited and it was Pleasure Beach and the Black river - he came back with some seeds for me too so i cant wait to hear about them
right - here is my attempt to document the training of a plant onto the screen. here is the JTR 4 days ago with the screen just fitted. (same pic as i posted before)
and here are two shots of it 4 days later - today - it hasnt been touched inbetween. as you can see, the tops have grown above the screen a fair bit.
if you want the tops to extend it is best to let them grow above the screen like this for a few days as the highest points of the plant recieve the most growth hormones
and here it is after training today. what i have tried to do here is tuck the tops under the screen in a place where they cant easily grow back through (they are not necessarily placed in their final positions - more in a place where the screen is blocking the tip). the reason i am doing this is that the tops have stretched a bit now and i want the secondary shoots to grow rather than the tops. so puttin the tops in a place where they cant easily bend back up again should give the sideshoots a chance to grow.
ive also tucked any big leaves out of the way so the light can get to the smaller sideshoots/laterals. i DONT trim leaves, hardly ever, they are the solar panels AND the backup nutrients to the plant. I have read a huge amount of books about all types of horticulture and never once have i read advice that removing leaves will increase flower production.
so lets see what it looks like after a few more days. with new plants it is hard to tell. it may keep stretching (seed plants often stretch a lot more than clones) or it may stop stretching now - especially with the MH in there. you just have to go with the flow and react to what is happening. right now the screen is fairly full so this one wont be a non-fill disaster - but it could keep stretching far ages and end up too big - who knows??
scrog is always much easier when you know your genetics but even if it doesnt go 100% right it will still give you a respectable yield imo.

in other news the nice short male JTR i 'selected' turned out to be a hermie and i had already tossed the others before i realised today so there will be no JTR male. fortunately i picked up a pack of Jack's Cleaner 2 at the hemp expo so i am tempted to crack some of those - in fact JC2 should make better breeding material as it is less of a multi hybrid - my seed boutique order went to a friends house and i wont be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks so the deep chunk and satori will have to wait...
hi Dr Dog it took me ages to find your post! something strange going on. hopefully it will be all back to normal now
could do with a bit more stretch on the JTR really. the MH has kept it right down but i wanted to use MH to finish the cheese and BF.
so here's what the jtr looked like today when i opened the cab.
and i re-arranged the shoots to spread them out, tucked the leaves, and it looked like this
which isnt too bad but there are a couple of gaps in the corners. i'm slightly worried it wont stretch any more so i swapped the lamps again and now we are back to hps which should encourage stretch. quite a touch call but as i've said before i prefer to have a problem with too much plant rather than too little. lets see what tomorow brings
That first cheese shot deserved some rep.... Ive been checkin in on the thread for a bit now. Its always a nice refreshment instead of some of the same old stuff around here. I think ima go with a mod scrog on my next round.. stay high..
indicameds - thanks mate. the cheese is certainly a looker
superpedro - that sativa was a challenge to fit into the cab - today i had to support the buds with some canes as they are very heavy - will probably the biggest buds i've had from the cab. they actually feel fairly solid too but i amiagine they will dry fairly airy.
hi ozeek - the Black Forrest is the first proper 'exotic' sativa i've grown in there so i'll let you know - but i have done Arjan's haze 3 (nice smooth hazy high) and got 1g/watt and power plant which i think came out around 1.2g/watt.
so i've got the scores on the doors for the first cheese.
i got 82grams from it which works out as about 1.3 g/watt - very pleasing yield and slightly above average for my setup. i also got
80 or so Cheese x Black Forrest seeds (obviously the seeds werent included in the weight )
so i think i'll send a few packs of seeds in for the server fund
the Cheese is a lovely smoke. tastes good, smells great and will fill a room with smell when you open the jar. potency is good but not the stringest ever. the effect is best described as a 'buzz' - quite positive and social - with some waves of stone. would probably keep you awake if you smoked it just before bed.
it really is oldschool - i can see why it helped fuel the rave scene in the UK.
Nice job on the cheese yields Verdant.....I can see some noticeable growth on the two budshots u posted. Now i cant tell if its just 6 days of extra growth or the 2 bulbs but the calyxes def swellin up...Will be interesting to see the diff if u run it earlier in the cycle too and not just a week. Props on that Black Forrest as well some big buds on that one! peace
cheers Irie - yeah i'm definitely goint to experiment more with different lamps. my CMH lamp has taken 6 weeks and still not arrived from the states so i thought MH would be the best option available. i think the JTR may suffer a little as it hasnt quite stretched enough but hey - i'll be able to see if it smokes well and i have a clone of it so no biggie
