Sounds like you're not getting a good seal to me too dans. If there was a good seal there would be nowhere for the moisture to go.
I mean, obviously it won't be 100% air tight but it should be tight. Put a little weight on the dome to hold it tight.

dans, ive never had experience with a dome, but i did try to clone in coco just for the hell of it. I used clear plastic cups from the dollar store.....moistened the coco, poked a hole with my finger, placed the cut, and then put another platic cup over the top with a small piece of tape to seal it. id open the top once a day to just check on things and then seal it back up.....the moist coco created enough humidity.

After about 14 days i started noticing roots.

One thing i did learn the hard way was one day i opened the tops and left for about 4 hours....came back to some cuts that were almost crispy (our air is rather dry out here)

dans, do you have a little hygrometer you could put in the dome?

I have a few of these and can recommend.

Third, do those work pretty well for ya? I have a few of those Caliber IIIs after reading the perfect curing thread...and they seems to work great and fit nicely in mason jars

Yeah Dans I'm gonna bandwagon here and say poor seal. Dome air hotter than surrounding air with good seal the moisture is guarandangteed i've found... main reason I prefer aero/bubble cloner is no dome necessary...

:tumbleweed: just got back from a loop out through the desert, nice little about 2 hour ride, figure it was about 16 miles of road to ride 5 miles of dirt...need to start looking at google earth and see if i cant figure out how to get across that part of town on dirt...anyway,i like the new bike, needs some adjusting, the rear derailleur isnt shifting crisply, the brake levers feel a bit sticky, but im betting thats just from poor maintenance...
got frickin windy out,im guessing 18+ mph given how much stuff was blowing down the roads, that sort of sucked, the specialized has the aerodynamics of a fat brick, its like a frickin sail in the right conditions...took it off a couple of long but not super steep drop offs, felt really solid and responsive to my input, felt in control of the bike rather than just being a passenger like on the surly, but the again the specialized bogged down in a sandy area i know the surly would have floated over...the surly goes up better, but the specialized goes downhill waaaaaay better....i would still pick the surly first for anything really long distance....

Yes I have a heat mat , yes they're sitting in the water in the tray , although theres not much left in it . the cups keep soaking it up . i'm not going to adding anymore , the cups look to soggy now . i have nothing here to set the cups on so they're not setting in the water & still allow the moisture to get in the dome . I have a heavy hand towel on the dome for weight & to block some of the light . the hydrometer is reading 81 degrees & 79% RH .... it dropped to 69% in the minute i had the dome off to take pics .
the last time i sprayed was about 4 hrs ago & i put the towel on after that & the dome seems to be staying wet now . so you guys musta been right about a bad seal . i'll keep my fingers crossed & keep checking the dome & cups . should i not have the cups setting in the water ???? i can try & find something to raise them a bit if needed .

A minute later it dropped 10% wow !!!

the temps in the room are almost 80 but the RH is less than 40%

Thanx gang !!! i guess all i can do is wait & see now .... unless they're any other suggestions you can think of .

I'm sure you have something to set the cups on, just get creative. Maybe cut an inch off the bottom of an identical cup and flip it over? Poker chips? 1" thick slice of pvc?

But yeah, I don't think you want coco sitting in water. Maybe don't cut any holes in the cups so water can't sink in?

Yeah they work great for me as I'm sure the calibers do. I've always used the Flukers dans showed in his pic but recently started buying the others. I keep around 8 of them around for just such an occasion.

I also keep my feathers numbered.

I put them in a second cup with no holes in the bottom , that way they don't wick up the water in the tray .

That should do it, might even want to take the original cup out and give a little squeeze if they are pretty wet.

Don't really need the drainage holes in the cups if they are in a dome cause you shouldn't have to water cause of the humidity you now have.

Hope that'll get ya on the right track.
