sorry, off topic but when it comes to lying, Boris is one of the first names which come to mind. He´s Top of the charts and has been (probably) since birth, lol
he might be leading the pack in Great Britain, but The Chump has lapped the field here. it's a "no contest". Cruz, DeSantis, Santos, MTG, Lake etc are fucking amateurs swimming in old Blowholes wake...

okay, but have any of them flushed their own country down the drain and more or less ruined things (everything) for generations to come?

Wood's and the DA's statements combined with how these types of witness testimony has been used historically leads me to believe Lin didn't flip. His testimony is going to be used for the prosecution to provide context and background to help paint the picture of the Conspiracy to defraud the People. And while his testimony and actions were unethical, they either were not deemed illegal by the DA or the DA felt the evidence wasn't strong enough for a conviction even though he was recommended for charges by the Grand Jury.
Well if hs testimony is enough to put Trump away then it's quite possible the MAGAts will take care of his punishment?

Lay waste to the Constitution and the constituency as it stands.

Desecrate the process of law.

Disrespect the sanctity of individual liberty.

Apply hate to minorities.

Conform to fascism.
Don't forget they're all (on Trump's orders) about to destroy the USA's credit rating and plunge it into a financial crises that could rival the great depression by letting the Government shut down, all in the hopes that it will put an end to Trump's legal problems.

Come on now, surely you aren't seriously asking that, or are you now talking about Trump?
I´m asking about american politicians/politics. Over here we usually just get to hear about the usual boring official stuff like state visits, conferences, meetings. But not were it leads. They (the media/ TV) don´t normally give us much detail and so on.
Maybe I don´t pay enough attention either....?

But the great thing about an internet forum is that you can ask ordinary people who are actually living in a particular country about what they are observing, how political decisions affect their lives and how they feel about things. Little everyday things which our news simply never covers.
All I´ve been noticing for many years now is that the entire world has gone even more nuts than it already was. Last centurys history is sort of repeating itself which means: Nobody has learned a bloody thing !

This is when the Democrats are supposed to start screaming "witch hunt!" and subpoenaing the prosecutors, and threatening to defund the investigation, and holding hearings on the weaponization of the legal system, right?

Right?

No?

The Democrats will let the process play out, and if he is found guilty they will respect the outcome?

It's basically the same here as it is in most other western democracies as far as politics and media coverage. Most everyone is either lying or telling you a spun version that suits and agenda they're pushing. With the mainstream media here most of the coverage is based on what they think is the most salatious thing and therefore likely to get the most views/ratings. To get any decent coverage of events we have to search the internet for smaller news sources that are usually motivated by something other then ratings. Even then we have to sort out the ones that are just propaganda for one party or another. Over time though as this stuff in politics tends to repeat itself you start to see what the results of certain actions are and so you don't need to rely on the media as much to tell you what it all means.

Like the latest drama going on with one party doing it's best to deliberately shut the government down by not authorizing more money to keep things running. I don't need anyone to tell me what it all means and what's likely to come of it because I've lived thru it several times now and I've seen how it plays out. All I need to know is who the key players are and from that I can determine the motivations. This latest case is something that is happening solely because of that branch of the republican party still subservient to the former President aka MAGA republicans. Trump has ordered them to shut the government down because he's hoping that if the courts and prosecutors aren't getting paid it will effectively stop the proceedings against him. Unfortunately that's not how it works. They also are trying to spin it to say how disfubctional the system has become to help make the case for their push for a more authoritarian system which they hope will be led by the former President if he wins the next election.

The reality is that if the government shuts down the ones who will be hurt the most will be the voters including many of those currently supporting them. So ultimately this stunt will just lead to the republicans not being re-elected and so they'll lose the little power they currently have and the Democrats will have near complete power to do whatever they want. It also means that this more radical anti-democracy faction will ne voted out of office which is ultimately a good thing. It's just a shame that everyone will have to suffer for a year and that the US economy will suffer which will cause the world economy to suffer. Now if it goes the way it has in the past, as it gets down to the wire the voters will be so enraged that the people responsible will start to realize they're screwing themselves over and in a desperate attempt to cling to their place in government they'll come up with a last second solution that spares everyone from the worst of it. At that point it is likely still going to be too late for them because the majority of the voters sees what is happening and they're tired of the games.

Will things return to normal after the next election? Probably not. It will be better for a while but for things to really get better certain changes must happen to stop this sort of thing from happening again. Un fortunately those things are items like term limits for everyoone, and end of the electoral college, and end to dark money in politics and end to the filibuster, etc. Which are all things that benefit all politicians and will be hard for any of them to give up leaving them as their only option to genuinely represent the needs of the people the represent.

Hey they did it with Al Fraken and his crimes were far less serious then what Menendez got caught doing.

I like that the Dems are putting out there that they'd be willing to work with McCarthy on a budget that will pass.

Yeah that's the right thing for them to do. Unfortunately the MAGA extremists got McCarthy to agree to the rule change that allows any one congressman or woman start the process of removing McCarthy as speaker if he does anything they don't like. So it's more likely then not that McCarthy will not take the democrats up on that offer. Which is sad really, he;s so desperate to hold on to that title of Speaker of The House that he doesn't seem to mind that he's likely to go in the history books as one of if not the weakest and worst Speaker of the House in history. It would be far better for his legacy to work with the Democrats, he likely would lose his position ats speaker but history would remember him far more kindly as at least doing the right thing by the American people by standing up to people like Matt Gaetz, MTG and Lauren Bobert,

That's what so pants on head stupid - the Dems have said flat out they will protect him. And still he decides to capitulate to the hostage takers.
