Tri_Cho_Me's First Grow & Grow Diary

Good thinking. I assure those are nowhere close to root bound yet. I'd say you're good to transplant now or in a few days. Again I'm pushing mykos on ya. It'll really help in the transplant. Once you do growth may stunt for a few days then you'll see an explosion of growth. Just be careful removing from cups. Cut the cup with a scissors to loosen it. Make sure your transplant soil is nice and moist with fresh soil and don't be afraid to start with nutes. Go 1/2 or 3/4 strength. You'll be fine!!!! Lookin good

Thanks for the tips! I am probably going to go no mykos this time. Again, funds are low, and my priority right now is getting my veg area finalized. I know, eye roll...

I am thinking Wednesday I will re-pot. I'll be gentle and all that jazz. I agree, probably not root-bound, but still mature enough to do it. Keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday, should be a fun update with good pics!

Day 20 Veg - Re-potting Time!

Day 20 Veg - Re-potting Time!

Hey ya'll,

Today was the day the girls moved into their new home. 1 gallon Smart Pots. I used the same soil mixture in the Smart Pots that I used in the Solo cups. I then cut two slits at the top of the cups to loosen them and then turned them upside down with a gentle squeeze and the girls fell right out in my hands.

I initially watered them in with the light MaxiBloom solution (1/8 teaspoon/gallon), left them for an hour or so and then watered over that with the pH'd molasses water. I got some good run-off, and am confident all that light, Fox Farms soil got good and saturated.

I also had a buddy (thanks pH_This!) cut me a couple pieces of wood to fit in my plastic rubbermaid in the bottom of the tent. I spaced them about 4 inches apart and set the Smart Pots on them. I am trying to raise them off the bottom and not sit in their run-off.

Anywho, some pics are below. Thanks for stopping!

Yep. They probably could've gone another week or two, but I feel like I have a lot to do before they flip to 12/12 and they're already 4 weeks into Veg. I want to top a couple times and need to re-pot into the 5 gallon Smart Pots at some point.

I feel like I will be in veg for like 10 weeks at this rate.

Thoughts?

First stop thinking about moving up in pot size. These girls look like they're struggling a bit. I'm not really sure about your feeding schedule or the line of nutes you're using. I feel like the plants aren't really getting what they need. Looking at the root photo your soil seems pretty dry. It's good to let it dry out but not completely. If it were me I would not top or cut anything for a while bag the molasses for now get some rapid start or some other root stimulator and water carefully. I'd water/feed a very small amount around the root ball then water around the edges of your pot. In essence keep the soil at the roots a bit moist the soil in the middle dry and the soil around the edges wet. Make those roots go search for water/food without flooding them. At 20 days veg the should be much bigger than that. Also are you measuring your PH? Make sure it's going in at 6.0

I'm not sure your actually 20 days into veg. Veg doesn't start when the plants pop up. Your in veg when the plants have established a root system and begun healthy growth. I usually consider my plants in veg when they are like 10" tall and showing daily growth. Most important be patient. Don't tribal much at once. Patience is the hardest part for me but over time I've learned it's just mandatory.

Yea, I'll definitely keep an eye on them more so now that they were just re-potted.

I had no idea you waited to start counting vegging days. I just figured once I saw the first set of cannabis leaves (not the starter leaves) that would be day 1...

I'll water carefully and make sure I keep an eye on them. I feel like things are still going well. They don't appear to be struggling really. Maybe just a bit on the small side.

Hopefully the new soil will add some additional nutrients to their diets and get them back on track if they are indeed struggling.

Anyone else have any opinions?

They’re coming along nicely Tri_Cho_Me.

But I agree with chomsky here:

First stop thinking about moving up in pot size...

And I agree with his point about veg. You’re forgetting the seedling stage. Personally, even though possibly reaching a point of veg when in SOLO cups, I still always consider the whole time in SOLO as the seedling stage. For me, veg begins when I transplant to one gallon and put the babies under MH. (Not sure when the technical transition from seedling to veg is said to happen.) And you don't want to do that until you have a very well established root ball. Yours could've (and should've) gone longer in the cups.

One of the hardest things about starting out is learning to let your babies do their own thing in their own time. You want them to rush; but you don’t want to rush them. It’s hard, I know. :)

Good luck as you move forward!

Thanks man. I appreciate your suggestions and positivity. This is a learning experience for me and hopefully others following along.

I had no idea seedling was a "stage". Obviously I know what a seedling is, but I never would've guessed that the beginning stages above ground with leaves wouldn't be considered veg. I learned something today and will apply it on future setups.

Thanks for your help! Check back soon to see how the ladies are doing :)

I had no idea about the veg stage either.. im currently waiting to move from seedlings pots to my grow pots 10litre with palgron bat mix... hope this grow turns out as you intend.. keep up the good work

Think mine could properly go another week in those (homemade pots),
Butt my question is... is transplanting into 10 litre pots going to be a problem as iv read i should go up in pot sizes.. iv only grown autos and you start them off in there intended finishing pots

Sorry to hijack the thread..

Are you feeding your seedling? If so how much ml per litre?

Good morning tri_cho_Me.
Your girls look like they are comming along nicely. They are always a little droopy right after transplant. In a couple days you will be able to see how quickly they bounce back. The pics of them in the cups look great. Sounds like you are getting good advise from people here. It's not a race more like a ride whare you enjoy the trip and aren't just focused on the destination. If you keep them happy they will make you happy. Keep up the good work!

@fiddynut - Thanks man! I'm trying my darndest to keep them happy!

@Gingerginge - I'm not great with liters, however, I am doing a light MaxiBloom solution about once a week. Other than that, just normal pH'd water or pH'd water with a little molasses. Both are at 1/8 teaspoon per gallon.

Good morning Ginge.
I think you are at least a couple weeks from transplant and maybe more. You need a root ball to hold the soil when you transplant.
How big are those pots that they are in?
If they are bigger than beer cups than I would wait until your plants are bigger than Tri_Cho_Me's to transplant.
I had good luck going from beer cups to 6" pots then to 14" pots to finish.
I know how hard it is for us new guys to be patient but you have to let them take their time. Plants have their own schedule and don't care if we are in a hurry. Give them love and keep them happy.

Now i feel responsible when I said you might want to transplant soon because of the way the top part of the plant was growing. I'm sorry

From the looks of the top part of plant I thought they would have had a more robust root system. Lesson learned for me (don't judge a book by its cover)

Thank you for waking that play by play thread from seed to seedling by Shmavis
