The Sugar Conspiracy

In 1972, a British scientist sounded the alarm that sugar – and not fat – was the greatest danger to our health. But his findings were ridiculed and his reputation ruined. How did the world’s top nutrition scientists get it so wrong for so long?

This was a recent discussion here. The newer reality that if persons with health issues such as diabetes are going to eat fats, it's better they be REAL fats, butter, cream, etc., rather than the 'healthy margarines' sold as substitutes.

The former Mayor of Anchorage, Rick Mystrom, years ago, reportedly kept a log of his diet and the effects on his metabolism, etc., and concluded that fat was his friend.. within reason, of course.

At a conference I was at for CEUs, maybe 25 years ago, led in part by First Nations elders and spokespersons re. health & social issues present at that time for those Groups (and others), there was (what I recall) either an Inupiaq or Yupik elder, and she referenced the White Peoples' coming as being the introduction to the '3 Devils' that had taken a toll on (Her) People; they were sugar, salt, and cocaine.

Saw Haggard twice. The second time, he left the stage after about 45 minutes. After a long break, he came back and apologized. Said he thought the show was over...He had a nice ranch up near the Kern River. Claimed he never made it to Muskogee much.

Maybe a bit racist.

Come from a family with roots in the South.
Had a plantation in Georgia.
Kept like a shrine by a family member
who grew up there. Went there as a child,
maybe 6 times, each time staying maybe a
week. Place was like a time capsule
even back in the early sixties.
Pot belly stove in the kitchen, cold water
only, the parlor and the library roped off.
Large kitchen garden out back.
Massive magnolias in the front.
Slave quarters had been converted
into a still house.
A windowless shed with a concrete floor.
A bar embedded in the floor ran the length of the structure.
Maybe an inch and a half in diameter.
About three inches off the ground.
Was allowed to have one the clay jugs.
Place was donated to a church upon the passing
of my relative in the late sixties.
Scoured the area with google earth,
it appears the property was redeveloped
long ago.
Recall being surprised when I went to
DC in the early seventies, and seeing blacks and whites
only signs still remained.
Learned through a folklorist with the Smithsonian,
the entire city had been built with slave labor.
Now acknowledged, it was largely glossed over in earlier times.

Beware of Darkness - George Harrison

[youtubeif]Bd6WCNhc5Gg[/youtubeif]
Watch out now, take care
Beware of falling swingers
Dropping all around you
The pain that often mingles
In your fingertips
Beware of darkness
Watch out now, take care
Beware of the thoughts that linger
Winding up inside your head
The hopelessness around you
In the dead of night
Beware of sadness
It can hit you
It can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for
Watch out now, take care
Beware of soft shoe shufflers
Dancing down the sidewalks
As each unconscious…

Watch out now, take care
Beware of greedy leaders
They take you where you should not go
While Weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow
Beware of darkness

DAMN, the world is provincial.

Do a web search for "Wildfire news" and all you get is 9 articles about PG&E's $13.5 billion fire settlement.

MEANWHILE, Australia is dealing with a fire on the west coast that is 3.7 times wider than the Redding fire in 2018, which was 10 miles wide and ended up 30 miles long, 200,000 acres.

The fires near Sydney are 750,000 acres ... and still growing.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019...m-mega-fire-north-sydney-191206074513633.html

If it was Russia, I could understand ... 750,000 acres is not a big fire for Siberia.

But the fire in Australia is going to keep going for about 4 months, or until it runs out of things to burn.

Oh well, more CO2 for our 2020 grows.

there ARE degrees of the disorder. not wanting your children to date someone of a different race is not equal to dynamiting churches in Birmingham. and we all know how well forbidding your children to do something usually works out...

Different degrees of violence. The results in society are the same. One leads to the other.

Self evaluation is in order. It’s not up to me who my children love.
My grandchildren don’t look like me. They act like me. They have values and they have value. What else matters?

no violence AT ALL in first example. not wanting your kids to intermarry with another race has the same effect on society as dynamiting a church in Birmingham Alabama? bullshit...
