Like being told the greatest person you'd ever want to meet has just left the party.. and you may never see them again.

The role that bees play in pollination, etc., the effect on food chain, and their being diminished in numbers so that we can sit on our patio without pesky predator bugs, weed our gardens less, or eat GMO corn, is like an indirect formula for suicide born of laziness and 'convenience.'

Our media has buffed and modified so much of our post WWII history I can hardly recognize events I lived through.
Who is it that owns the media, and why would they choose to do so.

Little different than a child's magic show when it comes simplistic deception.

Our media has buffed and modified so much of our post WWII history I can hardly recognize events I lived through.
Who is it that owns the media, and why would they choose to do so.

Little different than a child's magic show when it comes simplistic deception.

Our local news paper in the Interior is or was owned by the McClatchy Group (spelling?), but via local biased partisan control, during the oil referendum, I personally watched as an editor had writers there pull perfectly good, relatively balanced AP-sourced stories about the SB21 oil-giveaway referendum, and re-write them to where they nearly completely vanquished any reference of a positive nature toward persons/business/corp. groups with standing, who supported the referendum.

At one point I pulled links from the 'before and after' articles, posted them side by side in comments, and asked if they (a failing news paper) had SO many reporters on staff, with so little to do, that they could do what they were doing, re-write perfectly good stories, etc., or was this evidence of what I was certain it was evidence of?

One woman had purchased spendy banner ads for our side in the cause, with specific timing, display, etc., criteria, and they failed to run the thing as described or promised initially. In a private meeting with that editor, who, when confronted somewhat bluntly by her directly re. the 'failures', he said, "Well, you know this is a Republican paper, right?"

He was flaunting his bias and authority.

4th estate, my ass.

Just about everything of any use and value was taught to me by WWII vets.
Don't recall any asking about political preferences.

The best folks I've ever known were not so partisan as to be blind in their perception.. Or they wouldn't have had much to teach in the first place.

And I've been out of rep for much of the afternoon.

Gotta' sort tackle boxes to make sure we're legal when we go, so... later gator.

Explainer: What is post-quantum cryptography?

The race is on to create new ways to protect data and communications from the threat posed by super-powerful quantum computers.

https://www.technologyreview.com/s/...uantum-cryptography/?utm_source=pocket-newtab

The thing about all these computers is, they are becoming one of the major sources of energy use.

Which runs head-long into all of the "Green" goals. Oh God, Green New Deal has given that word a less noble meaning.

I notice Google has taken to running successive Youtube's.

You pick a Youtube, and when it ends, they play another one - cause they're so nice.

I would much rather have my computer go to sleep.

Maybe there's a Youtube setting for that ?

Anyway, most of the Green goals imply aggressive energy use reductions, e.g. 90%.

That's not so difficult, it means everybody has to be using Ultra-low power consumption devices.

I've been un-plugging my monitor (to save electricity) and also running the house fans in the early morning (and I'm actually opening windows so the air can move). It knocks the morning house temperature down to about 70 F, ready for another hot day.

Anyway, with those 2 things, plus heating water on the stove instead of using the hot water heater, I cut my power bill in 1/2.

Mr D

Most "green" goals are another form of control.

Their is enough geothermal energy to provide everyone on the planet cheap clean renewable energy for 1,000's of years. But keep wasting time with conservation, inefficient wind and solar. This is the mindset that will usher in government control "for our own good"

https://selectra.co.uk/sites/selectra.co.uk/files/pdf/future_of_geothermal_energy.pdf

When I read comments like this it reinforces my belief that the media and educational institutions do a marvelous job of keeping people misinformed.

With youtube it's a matter of turning off auto repeat.

Always thought of utilities, as a subscription service, were a form of control.
Which explains why they lobby so heavily against any technology
which even might allow one to clip their apron strings...

Our media has been at it a long time,
and I couldn't agree more with
respect to our educational system.

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how....

WTF ?

He added that "Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!", referring to a purported rift between the Democratic Party's congressional representatives.

Many political observers have noted that the President would be referring to New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her colleagues in what's become known as "the squad", which includes congresswomen Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib.

Only Ms Omar was foreign-born, but she emigrated to the US at age 12 after spending much of her childhood in a Kenyan refugee camp.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in suburban Westchester County.

Ms Pressley, the first black woman elected to the House from Massachusetts, was born in Cincinnati.

Ms Tlaib was born to Palestinian parents in Detroit.

In cryptography, the one-time pad (OTP) is an encryption technique that cannot be cracked, but requires the use of a one-time pre-shared key the same size as, or longer than, the message being sent. In this technique, a plaintext is paired with a random secret key (also referred to as a one-time pad).

War is drummed up by people proclaiming the necessity for the US to protect "its assets and allies".

The 1st term is of course too vague and the 2nd shouldn't automatically preclude war but when combined w/#1 it gains brevity.

Greatest crime in history.
Treason and it's pal treachery,
on a scale that is incomprehensible.
Done by a man who's political
heft dwarfed that of any president
in our history.
Morality dismissed, given the
amount. There is cost attached
to everything... if we choose
to be honest with ourselves.
He chose not to go that route.
Blow back we see now
with displaced people is
very much a part of that.
What they keep from us
has always spoken to
me.
Miss what I once had.
