The leader of China has said there will be no further trade talks.
He then went to the start point of The Long March, and told the
people of China to strap down, and to prepare for difficult times.

Sending our industrial base to China went way beyond merely
stupid.

One can surly understand his need for a continuing source of
distractions, but this was a terrible choice.

The chinese stealing intellectual property. Their story of prosperity. Mitch McConnell's wife, Elaine Chao. is from a big wheeling chinese family. Guess what's going on.

China doesn't need to steal IP. They seem to do it most often when the US makes it easy.

When the US sent its manufacturing offshore, and gave the Chinese the manufacturing tech that went along with it, the Chinese got the most important part.

When I watch Chinese manufacturing (e.g. their semi-automated building construction) and compare that to recent American manufacturing attempts (e.g. one military contractor in San Diego that abandoned micro-electronics because some particular managers TOTALLY BLEW IT on one project - and never tried to get back on the horse), it becomes obvious that the Chinese have simply passed the US. Technologically.

Of course the US will still have drones that can deliver pizza's, but that may not be the epitome of tech. society.

Sad but true. Also, There's no distinct line between what was stolen and what was sold out from under us.

Their IP thefts put Nortell Networks out of business. When DND took over their campus, that all but had to rebuild it because they found 10k+ bugs in the place.

I heard stories about routers, switches and boards having accessible chips on them. Even the government had computers they could not make secure. You never if this stuff is true or just people stirring it up.

I worked for Nortel and often you'd here something like "wtf!!!" in the labs. Some obscure Chinese company would produce a product we were still designing.

Huawei is Chinese government company. The west should absolutely stay away from anything they produce that can be updated/patched remotely. Which means, in effect, everything.

I was in the industry thru the 80s / 90s, I knew lots of things the public never caught onto...but I *never* heard even a whisper about hardware backdoors during that period. There was plenty of suspicion regarding s/w backdoors, though.

Of course, back then we hadn’t sold our manufacturing capability to China yet

It makes me furious to think of the betrayal involved in sending our most sensitive industries to be mass-produced by our rivals. The people in charge and the individuals who implemented the maneuver(s) should be doing hard time, not retired with their millions.
