There's a new Gun bill in Cali that would require all gun owners to get liability insurance and pay a yearly fee. People come up with some stupid shit. This bill wouldn't;t do anything but make billions for the state and insurance companies.

Like I said, punish, not help. Strike down single payer healthcare and punish law abiding gun owners with extra taxes and fees.

I have thoughts on the 2nd Amendment, and how we as a nation could drastically reduce gun violence without implementing a single new gun law.

But I don't think the GOP or the Dems would embrace it because it involves helping people instead of punishing them. And both sides would prefer to punish rather than help it seems.

a lot bigger profit in punishment. not much money to be made by helping folks...JMHO

if you DON'T pay the extra $$$, guess what? you're now a criminal. never been a "gun buy-back" that paid what the firearm cost...

Meaning the only benefit to the public would be a reduction of gun related crimes and deaths ?

C'mon man, you know better than that. No gun law enacted in the last 40 years has reduced gun violence.

I know 3 people personally who became felons over night because of Trump signing the bumpstock ban. Which I admittedly enjoy reminding them they voted for the only President to sign a new gun law since Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban. Which didn't reduce gun violence one bit. It actually went up according to the FBI.

You want to know how to drastically reduce gun violence? Enact M4A. Enact a $1200 a month UBI to all people who earn less than $100k a year. And end the war on drugs. Bam! 50% reduction and not a single new gun law.

Perhaps so. In the meantime we live in a stalemate. There is no 2nd amendment protecting the rights of the manufacturer, yet they remain untouchable.

buy-backs are nothing but a "feel-good" exercise so govt can tell anti-gunners "hey, we're trying here. whatta ya want?" no, they aren't "untouchable". but, since the product they sell is legal (and VERY highly regulated), the law does not allow "nuisance" lawsuits without merit in blatant attempts to bankrupt them...which is exactly the reason they get filed....and the vast majority get laughed out of court, like The Chumps attempts to cry "wolf!" about the election. judges go "get that shit outta my courtroom, and don't come back!"

Am personally not, an anti gun, but my spouse was a public health dr, ( who also was in the US Army and did carry a sidearm in combat tours) who did stay current with the topic, and I did frequently hear about it from her.
There are no shortage of fine ideas which have worked effectively and well, we simply do not have the political will to implement them here.
Which is quite different than saying the situation is unresolvable.

Banned: Books on race and sexuality are disappearing from Texas schools in record numbers

Facing pressure from parents and threats of criminal charges, some districts have ignored policies meant to prevent censorship. Librarians and students are pushing back.

Find this to be positively disturbing. Would much like to see the opposite.
Would like to digitize the content of the Library of Congress and have it available in every county library in the country.

The mayor of San Jose is whose brainchild this is.. You can read about it here. Id be pissed if I lived there. What he thinks will happens is asinine.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/01/...and-pay-a-fee/
Under the city’s new ordinance, residents who own a gun must carry liability insurance and pay an annual fee aimed at reducing gun violence.

won't stand up in court. if it was to make it to the Supreme Court, 6-3, baby. "sometimes" i agree with them, sometimes not..."life is like a box of chocolates..."

What I used to enjoy for live music.

Remembering Roy Buchanan plus Introducing Roy Buchanan-bonus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsljiXWrXus

Roy was an institution in the DC area. Used to be able go see him Thursday evening at a little tiny bar real near the Marine Barracks where the guys who watched over the Tomb of the Unknown lived. No cover charge and a half pound of steamed spiced was five bucks.
Roy hung himself in the Fairfax County Jail.

Also available locally was Danny Gatton:

To be able to see him in little tiny places was so neat, and always felt amazing.

Also strong and always available out there, was Root Boy Slim, who was unlike anyone else I have ever seen.
Where many musicians do have a stage persona, this man was his persona.
This man was incredible, and had an amazing background. I urge you to check out his wiki page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_Boy_Slim#Death

His shows were just short of a religious experience

Did anyone really think about what was in the accompanying article ?
That area has had to deal with some really horrific shootings over the last few years.
It is not a large population, and when one looks at the numbers involved, a lot of people
there, will have known those who were killed. At some point those who run for office need
to show that they are attempting to do something as opposed to nothing to deal with the
situation.
They spoke of spending two years speaking with various specialists prior to deciding to
pass this law.
I am not saying that I think this law was a good thing.
On the other hand what do you think the local leadership should do to respond to a population
that is disgusted by the lack of response ?

Seen a lot of areas respond with having kids do Shooter drills repeatedly.
Not real sure I feel real good about that kind of fear based imagery installed in kids.
It can not be healthy when it comes to shaping attitudes about anything let alone firearms.

Can recall back when we used to have to do the bombshelter drills as part of living
on base in the early sixties.
Those were some weird times.
