Why Doing Good Makes It Easier to Be Bad

What makes people who seem so good in public act so bad in private?
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/why-doing-good-makes-it-easier-to-be-bad?utm_source=pocket-newtab

the constant pressure to "be good" or "be SEEN as good" imposes alarming amounts of stress. not everyone is Mother Teresa. many eventually snap, doing things that no one acquainted with them would expect. the taller the pedestal you think you are on, the greater distance you fall when you lose it. TV preachers/politicians are excellent examples of this...

Always difficult listening to Cornel West, but it always feels like a privilege.

a clusterfuck, for sure. it is also a problem that will get worse, until we quit trying to build homes & farm in places that are not suitable. no water? no damn farms, no cities/subdivisions. irrigation is NOT the answer to all problems. they have promised more water than exists...

In the 1970s there was discussion (yes, serious discussion) about the prospect of building or using a number of different pipelines to divert water from the Yukon River or its headwaters to Southern California and areas in similar state of water flux, re. supply of H2O not being sufficient at times. Thankfully folks who would've been affected by this said, "FUCK NO!!!", even if just to the hypothetical premise. Many of the vocal opposition relied on fish AND the water, and it was NOT a popular 'what if' moment for the people who dreamt it up.

Former Marine charged in killing of 4 people, including baby

"A former Marine sharpshooter dressed in full body armor and wielding an automatic weapon allegedly went on an early-morning shooting "rampage" in Polk County, Florida, on Sunday, killing four strangers, including a mother and her baby, and wounding an 11-year-old girl before giving up.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the suspect, who he identified as Bryan James Riley, 33, of Brandon, Florida, allegedly told investigators the victims "begged for their lives, and I killed him anyway."

He was arrested on four counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder, seven counts of attempted first degree murder on a law enforcement officer, shooting into an occupied dwelling, two counts of armed burglary with battery, arson and cruelty to an animal, according to the probable cause affidavit released by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. He is being held at the Polk County Jail."
