I was wondering ... was your Father a Serviceman during WW2? Mine was, and I 've had an interest in that war ever since. This is despite my Father never talking about his service.
When I think of the things he did (others told me) ... and they are almost superhuman ... I see how terribly he was ripped off by the Politicians of the day. I would have been resentful as hell of the interference in my life as a young man. But dear old Dad continued believing in the system ... believing there was a bright new future which contained wealth and goods for all. He worked hard and achieved and had a few years to grow roses before he died.
And I look around and see today's wankers like Hempy small doodle sneering at the efforts of men like my Father ... and maybe yours, fellow Hippie ... with their post modern notions of freedom ...
And I just shake my head ...
yup. Dad lied about his age and enlisted in the US Army. during the war, they formed the Army Air Force, which he was placed in, working on bombers. got a picture of him somewhere with the Enola Gay....every man in the family joined up. one uncle went ashore at Iwo Jima, third wave, another was in the Pacific in the Navy...my brother joined USAF & was in SE Asia during Viet Nam, his son joined the Navy, i was in USAF .
