Thoughts on the war

I was wondering ... was your Father a Serviceman during WW2? Mine was, and I 've had an interest in that war ever since. This is despite my Father never talking about his service.

When I think of the things he did (others told me) ... and they are almost superhuman ... I see how terribly he was ripped off by the Politicians of the day. I would have been resentful as hell of the interference in my life as a young man. But dear old Dad continued believing in the system ... believing there was a bright new future which contained wealth and goods for all. He worked hard and achieved and had a few years to grow roses before he died.

And I look around and see today's wankers like Hempy small doodle sneering at the efforts of men like my Father ... and maybe yours, fellow Hippie ... with their post modern notions of freedom ...

And I just shake my head ...

yup. Dad lied about his age and enlisted in the US Army. during the war, they formed the Army Air Force, which he was placed in, working on bombers. got a picture of him somewhere with the Enola Gay....every man in the family joined up. one uncle went ashore at Iwo Jima, third wave, another was in the Pacific in the Navy...my brother joined USAF & was in SE Asia during Viet Nam, his son joined the Navy, i was in USAF .

there is no way i could see the youth of today lining up at army/navy recruitment to goto war the way it was in ww1 and 2
like yourself my parents and myself were ex military but the things we were ordered to do was wrong
let down by our country and polititians
both my daughters know nothing about my army time there is no photos no medals no pride
sad really

i hope we never find out, but...i believe that most of them would sign up & do their duty if they were called upon. been wrong before, though...EVERY war has had those that refused to fight, for whatever reason. i'm thinking that many who would not fight for their country would refuse because of our politicians, not because the country needed them or they were afraid. "support my country, always. support our government when absolutely necessary..."

Putin has allegedly sent 400 mercenaries into Ukraine with a hit list of politicians. this absolutely violates all of the "rules of war". if true, and they succeed, Russia will be a pariah in the eyes of the world from now on, never to be trusted again. news tonight says Germany giving Ukraine anti-tank weapons etc, & Ukrainian pilots are picking up NATO nations jets in Poland. if this is not what Putin was talking about RE "interference" then i'm not sure what he was talking about. is it a bluff and he has already been called on it? Germany & Poland are both NATO signatories, and are under the NATO pact of nuclear protection.

Also dropped a thermobaric and cluster bombs. Both highly frowned upon.
40 mile long convoy heading in now, and choppers gathering 20 miles over the boarder.

I reckon Putin has medical condition. He's going to make a mark, or die trying.

I hear he has prices on peoples heads. Has nobody put a price on his? If our leader was acting like this, he would be locked up.

wouldnt surprise me if he is taken out by his own circle even if there isn't a price on his head. No doubt he's an assassination target and will be holed up in russia till he dies. But the noose is tightening, and he could become more unstable in the meantime. I just dont see him packing up and walking away at this point.

You would have to assume Ukraine has lost all its' bombers or runways for a convoy to be clumped together like that.

i've never read that they HAD any bombers. who would they bomb? and why? (before this week, i mean) some transports normally used in humanitarian missions, and the fighters left over from Russia...

You’re right. I hadn’t looked into it. Just fighters, no specialist bombers - though they have multi-role fighters.

Yes, while Russia seems disturbed by them joining us, they seem to have a twisted idea of what that means. On the whole, Europe has spent years getting rid of weapons, working towards peace and diplomacy. It's why there isn't a huge arsenal sat on all European runways, just waiting to be dispatched to hot zones. It's not what being a member means.

It's not true anyway. That sea brings warm weather. About 3c more in fact. Which means crops do much better. It's a fertile region with resources. It's nothing like a lot of Russia.

It is a little surprising that on the run up to this they didn't get a bit more prepared. I guess nobody thought it would happen. Only a mad man...

only the nuclear powers in NATO have dedicated bombers, per my reading. ALL of them have (as you said) multi-purpose fighter-bombers which can carry & deliver tactical nuclear weapons kept by those three (i think) nuclear nations in NATO - the US, Great Britain, and France.

i hope you are correct. Putin has lost control of the conversation about Ukraine, even inside of Russia. it must suck when countries that used to cower & beg for your approval tell you to go get fucked...the UN General Assembly called for an emergency session of the Security Council last night. Russia voted "no" of course, China abstained (slap in the face) as did India & the United Arab Emirates. everyone else said "hell yes..."

Well unfortunately, and as you know by now nothing was accomplished by the talks, Russia essentially handed out ultimatums and Ukraine more or less said F**k off. One thing that has seemed pretty clear all along is that now that he's in his 70's Putin is feeling like he better make his moves no in order to establish his legacy in the history books. Unfortunately for him and the rest of the world, his legacy isn't likely to be the glorious resurrection of the former Soviet Empire that he's been dreaming of. He is well positioned to secure a place in the history books, most likely as the Hitler of the 21st century

The dude must have gone into this knowing the world would turn against him. All countries defenses war game out various scenarios, and no doubt the global reaction that is happening now has already been considered. Because of this, I think we are just in the first inning, and the big kaka has yet to hit the fan. Its just seems too calm given the magnitude of what he's done. He's outlined what he wants and what he is willing to do, but no way the west gives it to him, so it's going to get pretty friggin crazy in the not too distant future, and its going to go well beyond Ukraine. Buckle up.

I seriously doubt it will get as crazy as you might think. It's one thing to invade a country that is not know at all for it's military might but a totally different matter to take on the most powerful alliance on the planet. So far he's been failing miserably at achieving the swift victory he imagined and that's at the hands of mostly volunteer forces armed with a rifle and Molotov Cocktails. Imagine how much worse it will be for him against NATO whose members include the US which is considered the most powerful military force in the world. The only chance he would have in that circumstance would be to use Nukes but since it would likely be happening on Russia's border the victory he might achieve would only be posthumously.

When I first started visiting these sites over15 years ago, everyone knew what time it was regarding government trust and misinformation.
I miss those days. 2010 legalisation destroyed a beautiful movement and community,..exactly as it was designed to do.

There have been some interesting revelations to come from this war:

It's obvious now why Trump and Putin got along so well, they're both prolific liars.

It took a former comedian who portrayed a President on a TV show to show the World what real leadership looks like and under that leadership the Ukrainian people are reminding the world what true Patriotism looks like.

Can I just ask, do you really believe a comedian/actor actually said "I need ammo not a ride" and that if he did, it wasnt scripted? A known comedian/actor/tv personality. All fed to you by the same people who make your favourite action movies. Do you actually believe that was real and genuine?
(Asking for a friend, whos worked in tv/film and theatre for two decades🙏☺)

Do you really believe leaders of countries just spitball on the world stage?

Only an idiot would do that...
