joe....its not all like that. I've never seen coffeeshop bud as shitty as arjans ultra hayze.

There's pretty good weed and hash in some shops. Of course anyone accustomed to smoking the finest homegrown....well, wont be too satisfied in Amsterdam. But there's more to the city than bud.

i wonder if it's true that they kiff their bud at the green house? i can't imagine a legitimate reason for it, so lets hope they do not skuff their buds before selling them. would be very dishonest to say the least.

That was ONE YEAR only, and it is based on the fact that that year there were 2 hawaiian snow entries....

One looked very much like the Ultra Haze that won(?) this year, maybe a stray tricomb or 2...

Others looked like they glistened... like they were rolled in crsytals!!

So more than one sharp-eyed smoker noted the disparity and one even spoke of it in a letter to an editor

But... no.... They aren't stupid at Greenhouse and skuffing their buds just for the everyday consumer would be a stupid thing to do!

the strangest part is that the pics shown here of home grown UltraHaze, look much nicer then any of the samples we tried of UH that got entered. for some reason there was hardly any trichome coverage on that bud.

i am honestly confused by the whole thing...ultra H seems to look better when grown by fellow members, rather then by the breeder, lol.

what do they care? They know that inexperienced pot smokers flock to the shops every day in the dam. When you put it all together......we(icers and ex ogers who actually know plenty about herb and how it SHOULD be) are a relatively small group of chronic smokers.....the vast majority of people aren't weed gurus like us and are willing to smoke whatever sounds nice or some other stupid thing like that (such as fancy schmancy cannabis cup winners).

What the hell has happened to the cup? I remember the times when true winners like ssh, kali, ak, blueberry, etc got deserved credit and jack-asses like arjan were tossed in the street.

I'm still in the process of readin through these pages but upon reading the report on strainguide i noticed contradicting info:

Another thing, why are cannabis prices so outrageous in Amsterdam if its basically legal (tolerated) there? It should be like 20 euros an ounce. This is raw plant material!

yes, i know supply/demand, etc. But people will pay whatever the price is set at also.

Fact is, this is a raw, unprocessed plant material (besides trim and cure), and the high cannabis prices around the world are due to supply being so low most places, but this shouldn't be the case in Amsterdam.

By the way, read through this thing, had some good laughs in there.

Thanks for giving your honest opinions guys. I'll make it out to the 420 IC growers cup some day. I'll shoot for April '08 and make it a goal. It would be awesome to be able to party w/ yall and try out other ICer's crops.

the demand is high.
gwowing weed is illegal in holland and the cops are busy looking for them.

just because coffeeshops and smoking are tolerated doesn't mean growing is.

Also many of you are not taking into account how much weed has to be grown to supply a shop and the turnover rate.
growing the dank is easy when you have to supply yourself and maybe friends 'n' familly.

That is such a crazy system! I can hardly believe its been operating like that for so long! You can legitimately have a business selling in small quantities, you can buy and smoke it, but you can't manufacture the good which is being sold. Makes sense to me....

1. A street dealer doesnt pay rent (rent is very high in amsterdam)

2. A cs has to pay his employees + taxes etc

3. A cs pays taxes from their weedsales.

4.Wholesale prices are about half the price cs's selling their products for.

but mainly its expensive because it's illegal to grow, and they have grow cops looking for anything more then 1 lamp. the grow shops are not even allowed to have a display garden anymore. although the dampring grow shop made an exception for the cup and had some 5 fully harvest ready, mature plants on display. but the guy said that they would be confiscated if left there longer then the cup week. so as long as the grower who supplies the shops has to stay hidden the prices will not go down.

Actually, ripping you off is just part of the price you pay for feeling like family, or whatever reason people give for supporting them year after year!

ABSOLUTELY.... the old dilemma of Tolerated at the front door but ILLEGAL at the back door DOES contribute to the costs but.....

The reason Greenhouse and a few others are much higher is that all the free stuff they giveaway at the cup... all the free ganja they give Busta Rhymes and Eminem (et al), all the parties and other expenses HAVE to be paid off somehow!

Its not my idea but it deserves consideration, HT should rename it the Amsterdam Party Cup and give up the pretense of judging anything!

It used to be that you were encouraged to sample as many strains as possible and they checked your "passport" before giving you your earned T-shirt. Now, the Tshirt is handed to you when you arrive and you can vote starting the 2nd day whether you visited 1 coffeeshop or not!

And too many people who attend the cup are like you mentioned in the 1st part of your message (not quoted)

Light weights are more likely to vote for the best party or freebie or the person who treated then nicely rather than the best weed! And they are becoming more vocal and proud of their ignorance!!

well GHSco really does not make any money nor has it in the past. The reason it looks like it does is due to the amount of advertising it has to do to keep up its image. Obviously it works as even people like you believe the visuals. Basically spending between 25-35000 euros a month on advertising can make a company look like a good one but the real test for a company is in the product and service capacity. As I always say the empty barrel makes the biggest noise!
