2024 ACE seeds Mystery Grow

Hello Everyone,

This is my 2024 grow. It is made up of three ACE seed strains. I am unsure which is what because I had trouble germinating seeds. In the process of trying to get the seeds to germinate they got mixed up. It may have been because they were too old. (2019). I'll include a pic of the seeds that didn't germinate. Very unusual for ACE seeds and probably something l did. This seasons germination occurred over a period of 2 months and hence the late grow.

Moreover, the intervals between each seed popping was weeks apart. I started the process in April.

One of them, the largest(panama?), looked pretty normal from my grow experience. The other two started out as miniatures? and grew slowly. Very unusual. Again this could be due to my limited experience.

Could one be Bangi Haze. I so wanted to try this but l don't think any of the seeds popped. Unsure. Panama or panama congo mix. Golden Tiger. I'll check for other seeds l tried to germinate.

Notwithstanding, here is this years mystery grow. The largest plant eats more N than l thought possible. I am constantly ammending the soil with Gaia Green all purpose and Gaia fish meal. Really incredible amounts used and still yellowing. Is it lockout? I PH water to about 6.5 each time.

The other 2 are taking normal amounts.

The largest plant is about 6 weeks in flower. The other 2 are at about 3 weeks.

Any guesses welcome!

Looks like your pH may be dropping in a low range. Take the plant in question and on a watering day, 2 hours after watering add 500 ml of distilled water and catch the distilled water in the drain tray and test the pH and see for sure. While you have the leachate go ahead and test the EC and see if it is too high or low. Keep us posted.

Hello again Creeperpark,

Thank you for your suggestion. I don't water the 5 gallon buckets fully 'till runoff. I use about a quart to 1.5ish of a quart to water every 2nd day. I found that if l water too much they droop. So there was no runoff.

I usually PH to 6.5 or either side of that number. Should l up the PH of my water to combat low PH? Could I hit it with Cal-mag or Epsom salt to change soil PH?

I still don't know what they are. Though l believe the tallest to be a panama or cross of some type.

I'm very curious about the other 2. I love the thin leaves on one of them. Thank you again. 20241110_181144.jpg

They look good! Im not so sure they need food. I see you have some sticky traps set, how many are the traps catching? I have had plants with leaf issues caused by gnats. If you have been adding lots of food then I wouldnt continue adding more just yet. It's possible its a pH problem but with 6.5ph waterings it should be fine. You can make adjustments to feed pH to compensate for pH in the rootzone just be careful not to go too far either way. How are you measuring pH?

The plants look awesome man, I cant tell who is who either though

If you can't do a pour-thur, then I can't tell you what to do without knowing the state of your substrate. Take it a day at a time for now, but if the yellowing worsens, you may need to do a pour-thur and test the leachate. When salts build up in the substrate they can drop the pH in a dangerous range.

Hey Chrono!
Thank you for taking a look. Now you can see why l said strangely familiar to your grow. I do believe that my big plant is a Panama cross of some sort.

The yellow stickers are mostly prevention. I have not seen any new gnats on them. :>). There were a few a few weeks ago. The traps did them in.
I did not grieve.
I learned from my battles during the purple haze grow.

I use a vivo? PH meter. Just picked up. I have also been using litmus paper along with the digital. It's fun to try and develop a sense for the colour on the paper against the digital readings. It's pretty accurate. That's all water side testing not soil. I have never tested for that.

At this point l.will keep an eye on them and if they keep yellowing, flush them as Creeperpark suggests. I typically have not seen much salt.
Thank you again. I appreciate the comments as always. I hope you are enjoying the benefits of your labor!

I'll include some better pics of the other 2 plants.

Thank you for your input on this. I had never thought of that. Though l have not seen too much evidence of salt in my limited experience with growing. So that may be why it is happening in my grows. I thought I was not feeding them enough.

Thank you again for taking a look. Feel free to throw out a guess as to what they might be :).

yup, stickies are great for gauging populations but dont do much for control. Most of the life cycle takes place unseen, under the medium as eggs and larva. The adults fly around to mate and then lay eggs and are only alive for a few days I'm pretty sure. Glad to hear it's not an issue this round but you are still taking steps for IPM.

a pH pen kept calibrated and verified by litmus is a great way to stay on track with pH. I use reagent drops which turn color when you add to a small sample of the solution. I used to use a pH pen but I got tired of them wearing out. Im lucky that my water lets me add nutes and it drops pH to about where I need it. I havent had to use pH up or down in a while but having a little pH test kit is still needed as some of my supplements can raise or lower pH beyond what the nutes do. I was using a certain calcium and that lowered pH a lot. The neptunes harvest 241 I just started using can lower pH enough that I need to adjust. Without some way of measuring and checking this Id have definitely fried some plants or set the medium off on the wrong track. pH is important to be accurate and in range but not necessarily precise down to the .02 especially in soil as the soil biology tends to balance things out a bit.

As far as what you are doing, everything seems to be on point, The only red flag to me is maybe over application of GG that you described but I understand that was done in response to what definitely could be seen as a deficiency or simply them requiring more food. The dry ammends can take a bit of time to start working and Im concerned that when you fully saturate the medium it could lead to an overdose or just that it might be too much released after it starts breaking down.

I think any of those plants could have panama in them except possibly the thinnest leaf one would be the GT if i had to guess

hope some of this helps and please take with a grain of salt (no pun) Im just a coco kit grower. I know what I know but it aint much

Thank you Chrono for your thoughts and sharing your knowledge. That's an awesome slide! I hope you break out your guitar near the plants frequently. They would love it.

It is fun to try and PH with the litmus. I like the sound of those drops. That would be helpful to see it like that.

Your concern is shared. I think l will give it a good drink tomorrow and hope to flush. It still seems to be yellowing.

My guess for the narrow leaved one is also GT. :).

If I water the plant double the amount, would that start to break down salt/PH in soil? Hopefully without releasing to much fertilizer.

So many strange things with this grow. From the seed germination to them growing like miniatures. Unless l am mistaken, l don't think any of the Bangi made it through.

Hope you are having a great fall. The tent looks great as always. I wish l could keep mine like that.

you got the blotter I got the dropper

Anytime, man. I appreciate the kind words and hope you're having a great fall as well!

Ive never had a soil grow so I cant tell you what to expect. All I know is that I've heard of that happening. Over-ammended soil can add up and go toxic once it all starts kicking, if thats the case w. you I dont know.

I bet its fine though, your containers are pretty big. Could be just the right amount now. Losing a few lower leaves is also normal for plants that size, I think they shed some leaves that arent necessary? Or maybe in other words since you dont want to over-feed if a plant is eating up a few lower leaves but overall look healthy and vibrant ( like yours do ) then maybe they are right where they need to be. Plants that size can afford to shed a few leaves, especially ones that are in the shade.

Keep us posted, I'm looking forward to how these look as they develop.

Beautiful plants. They look great.

Let the double barrel sunshine shine in!

Thank you for the kind words as always.

I did flush the plant after all a couple of days ago. I used about 6x the amount of water l normally use. Thank you again Creeperpark for telling me about this.

It still looked like it was eating through leaves. I don't know if the plant continues to withdraw all the nitrogen from a leaf once it starts to do so?

Notwithstanding, it really looks like there is/was a serious lockout so I flushed it.

I am unsure of how l will know if it's remedied. It has probably lost about 30-40 leaves since it started.

Also, you may be right re all plants have hints of Panama. Tho l do believe the thin leaved one is GT.

If l did have some of that blotter, the plants would be able to tell me directly no doubt. :)

Here are a couple from today. Hope you are having a good one!

When doing a flush it can be helpful to use a low ppm of nutrients for the flush. That way the plants will have a chance to reset the nutrient sequence without washing everything away.

Thank you Creeperpark. I don't know if the plants are responding or not. Since l am using organic fertilizer, l am assuming that it will release nutrients. My other 2 smaller plants are showing signs of yellowing also. I will try the same thing.

I guess you are caught in a jam because you are using organic fertilizer and waiting for it to kick in. Is that what I'm hearing friend? If that's the case don't panic and be patient and let's see what happens.

Thank you again for looking and comments. Very much appreciated.

So here they are about a week later. The big one has lost about 20-30 leaves this week in addition to the current yellowing.

I have been at PH 6ish for water.

Big drinks.

No ammendments.

For some reason l'm going to add some potting soil to the plants.

Some voice in my head saying it might change the PH favorably and end the lockout.

The other 2 unknowns are beginning to show signs of yellowing.

So I'll continue to water and see.

Little else to do. :)
