We had a different 'public' back then. Slightly less blindered nationalism and lockstep partisanism, in my opinion. And we had the draft, which meant more peoples' kids were eligible to die in what proved to be an illegal 'police action.'

One major reason why Ellsberg wasn't prosecuted, but Assange was... and Snowden would be.

Back then our government tried hard to hide their criminality. Really hard. Today they flaunt it and persecute and prosecute anyone who yells, "Hey!! This shit's illegal!!"
